Manu Paradise Lodge

My wife and I stayed at Manu Paradise Lodge for 4 nights in May 2024.  We are birders and chose Manu Paradise for its central location on the famous Manu Road.  It's a small lodge, clean and well-maintained.  The food is OK, not the best we've had in bird lodges in Peru, but satisfactory.  There wasn't a resident manager while we were there, just the two or three local people who cook and clean.  The lodge does not have it's own trails, but the best birding is anyway on the road.  We had a driver who took us up and down the road to we had more opportunities to see different species.

As a tour guide I've visited the Manu road  5 times over the past 9 years and highly recommend Manu Paradise Lodge. It's conveniently located for access to the middle 
Manu road, and it's comfortable, clean, and welcoming, with great food and friendly and helpful staff who want the very best for you. The wifi was upgraded last year to satellite (Starlink) and they get very fast connections (I measured at least 150+ Mbs, I think it goes higher still), although this does vary depending on meteorological conditions, but even when overcast and raining we had a decent signal. They also have repeaters in the rooms, and wifi reached even the furthest rooms. They also have 24/7 electricity (solar, backed up by a generator if necessary), something that the neighbouring lodge does not. The location is absolutely jaw-droppingly beautiful, with views out over the Cosñipata river to a mountainside of tropical cloud forest, and upriver all the way to the 4000m+ mountain peaks, truly spectacular on a crisp clear morning. You are surrounded by cloud forest, so when you walk along the entrance drive and along the main road, there is forest everywhere, and wonderful birds, butterflies and other insects abound. We had shining silvery-blue Morpho aurora butterflies, several at a time, dancing around us even in the garden. (NB: I don't recall ever getting bitten by any insects here). The garden is not huge but is well maintained and they have multiple hummingbird feeders which bring in constant visitors, and above the main building is a tall tree with iconic hanging Oropendola nests and their delightful evocative calls. At night you fall asleep to the sound of the rushing river and the creatures of the night, and the temperature is generally very pleasant, rarely too hot, usually temperate and comfortable, although in bad weather it can drop a little and you will benefit from an extra layer of clothing. All in all staying here is a delightful experience, and I thoroughly recommend Manu Paradise Lodge.

I'd say if you are looking for exclusively overnight in the cloud forest , this is the right place along the  Manu road (cloud forest) the rooms are comfortable and clean  with private toilets facilities, Wifi signal reach most cabins 
The rooms on second floor have amazing view of the pristine forest.
Overall interesting location for birding , not trail  system but most of the birding it's done along the road, it's recommend to have own transport to explore the surroundings


Having stayed at several lodges on Manu road, I regard Paradise Lodge as the friendliest. It is a small place, nicely situated near the river, in more open habitat than other Manu road lodges. It is small, with just few rooms, and the staff is very friendly, serving very good food and able to serve you at very early morning hours, essential if you want to go for birds. Several hummingbird feeders attrack these gems. Large confortable rooms. highly recommanded 

Unfortunately we spent only one night in this very clean and very confortable lodge. 
This lodge is with the cock of the rock the best lodge in the cloud forest because it's close to the place where you can see the cock of the rock early in the morning. The owner of the lodge put some perchs to draw hummingbirds and all the garden is full of birds. The owners are very friendly. It's a very good place to spend more time to see the birds inside the forest. I recommand to spend two nights there.

Beautiful grounds with lodge overlooking a valley and river with mountains in the background.  Room was spacious, clean with very comfortable beds and pillows.  Room surrounded by window and a nice view of nature, sufficient hangers and storage area, great washroom area.  Nice dining/sitting area with coffee and tea available, internet access and an upper level deck provides a stunning view of the area.  Food very good. Close to Cock of the Rocks bird viewing area as well as a bird station in a nearby town which had a wonderful variety of birds including tanagers, barbers, hummingbirds, etc. with mountains/clouds in the background.  Great for photos.

We stayed here because Cock of the Rock was full.  It was not too bad a second.  The lodge has no trails of its own, but this was not a problem for us as we had already birded at Cock of the Rock Lodge and were now planning on birding on the Manu Road itself.  The rooms were large and comfortable and had windows across the whole of one wall, facing into the forest with feeders also up.  There was also a generator providing electricity all night. It made birding from bed possible!  The big criticism was that the food was poor.

The lodge itself on the river is a wonderful magical place. You are a captive audience though and the lodge has few guests. The staff - though pleasant - did the minimum for food and guests. 
Despite the staff, the Manu reserve is a paradise for birders. Just a simple walk along the (only) road is marvelous.


Great location and great guide but lazy staff

We had read it, no luck for us. We were there for the weekend, despite the best efforts of Mr. (forgot his name) on doing everything for us alone, and he was really nice person, he could compensate the fact that the cook arrived one day later and the meals were as good as instantaneous noodles. Cook arrived, meals changed a lot.
Putting this aside, the place got an award in 2008 of best inn in the region, it seems to me they did deserve, back in 2008, and did nothing to maintain it. Place looks run down, abandoned. My first reaction when we got there was to leave immediately.
Well, there was the positive side, wide windows looking straight to the forest, great experience.
All together I think the price is way up to the real value.
