We were all excited about the holiday/family vacation and upon arrival, turns out they had already given one of our rooms to other people which was a disappointment. Then after almost an hour we were given other rooms. The WiFi signal was poor, the roof was leaking in one of the rooms and the bathrooms very dirty. The staff were unprofessional and seemed to not care at all. Anyone going there must expect the worst. Until they up their game, I wouldn’t recommend the Hippo Creek to anyone. It was a mess!

Great disappointment and the worst experience at the Hippo Creek.

the rooms are great very spacious and make you feel that you are really outdoors. the place also has many pieces of furniture engraved with hippos ...quite nice and different

We used to have great afternoon lunches at Hippo creek when we were resident in Masvingo province. We decided to visit the place for dinner with friends expecting the warm reception, good meals and the tranquil environment. We were informed on arrival that it was now called Hippo Safari Lodge under new management. We were given a menu where all the options were unavailable. The sitting area was poorly lit and our waitress seemed aloof and clueless to what the chef was offering. The rest rooms were devoid of basics such as toilet paper that was only given upon request. The pricey drinks came without glasses to pour into. After deliberating on whether to order food or drive out, our empty stomachs advised us to order against our better judgement. The food came an hour later and wasn't as expected, cold and tasteless. I'm informed the place had been closed for renovations. I suggest they close the place again and reopen when they are serious about hospitality and making Hippo Creek the tranquil place it used to be!!

Past experiences at this property brings so much lamentation. It was great accessing the place from Masvingo - Mutare road. Swimming pool, sandy beaches and the boat provided fun on the Northern side of Lake Mutirikwi. Don't see any reason why this place should be attended to and re-opened.

Please re-open

A lot of work and attention to detail went into this place, but it has fallen on very hard times and while the prices stay steep there is no value added services (like an on-site restaurant, wi-fi, toilet seats, shower curtains, etc.). A real shame, but reality for Zimbabwe. The owners/managers should have been forthright about the changes knowing full well we were booked in under false pretenses.

No longer what it was

My husband and I have visited Hippo Creek before and we were very impressed with the service and friendly staff.  This time, however, we were thoroughly disappointed.  On arrival, the lady checking us in was completely disinterested and almost annoyed that we had arrived to stay the night, even though we had made a booking.  When we went for dinner, the TV was so loud in the bar that we could hardly hold a conversation.  The staff's only interest was in watching TV and not in doing their jobs.  It was clearly inconvenient for them to give us the drinks we had ordered and our meals arrived cold.  The room had a leaking tap in the bathroom and we had to ask for the cold water to be switched on.  It was not worth the money we spent and we will not be returning, nor will I recommend Hippo Creek to anyone I know - something I used to do quite regularly.
