Check in no issues . Staff polite and friendly . However I had to cut short my visit after 5 hours . I was placed in room 4 and I would suggest to anyone with a family to refuse this room at all costs . This was due to the inconsiderate herd of elephants upstairs with an ill disciplined kid that took it upon themselves to use the bed as a trampoline causing severe banging . I tolerated this for 5 hours before my nerve finally broke . I approached reception and asked for them to deal with this or relocate us as now my 3 year old was constantly being woken by the banging , and I may add from 1830-2230 till I made my complaint . 
Unfortunately there was nothing the staff could do except be apologetic . This left me no choice but to pack up and leave and drive back the 50 miles to home , ruining our weekend . 
As I booked through booking I was advised to escalate this to them first before taking things further . My family and I should not have been put into a situation of grin and bear it . Trust me I’m certainly used to loud bangs being a veteran of Iraq . But that night was an absolute joke . And many times my wife had to stop me from going upstairs and really losing it which would have ended very badly . So again you want a decent family hotel avoid this one .

Not a family hotel unless you have wild kids

Whenever we visit Weston we always come to the old colonial. Foods lovely and affordable, lots on menu for all, view of sea (depends where you sit), staff are friendly most of the time, rooms have been clean & quite spacious for families. 

Great place to eat/stay

We had our works Christmas Party here and I would like to say a massive thank-you to Richard and all the staff. The food was fab, service was excellent and all 14 of us has a fantastic time. We will book again for 2024.

Christmas Party 2023

Wanted to refuel on coffee after parking up in the adjacent car park. Went straight to the Old Colonial, walked through the front garden towards the main entrance, past a very unassuming couple - when the man shouted “Oi ! Not open till 12. 
So we went next door to Nicks and enjoyed great coffee and fantastic service.
Maybe some polite etiquette and customer care might bring their scores up.

Came here lunch time food was great we had hunters chicken with all the trimmings it was cooked to perfection and great value for money they had a varied menu something for everyone service was excellent nothing too much trouble we would definitely return 

Great food and service

We came away to celebrate an anniversary. The hotel is very shabby. We asked for a sea view which cost £120. The room was very basic with a radiator hanging off the wall. But the worst part was the view from the window. It was a sea view but it was also a view of the roof of the floor below us which was filthy. There was a pair of men’s underpants and an old milk bottle.
Needless to say it was not the romantic stay that we had hoped for.
Would not recommend this hotel

Unexpected view

We stayed as a family of two adults and two children.    Room set up was perfect for a family but poorly maintained and dirty,   Beds themselves and sheets were fine, I did check under sheets on mattresses and pillows.    Have to admit, the beds were super comfy and the bedding new, light and fluffy.  A good nights sleep.   It was the actual room, maintenance and thorough cleaning that was questionable.    See photos.
Walls were even falling off inside the room.   Side of bed was a huge chunk of plaster off the wall, cracks in walls.  Bathroom was filthy, broken parts.  Kettle was full of limescale. 
Really was not worth the £70 charged.   Went to see management and they
 refunded £50.    The lady we saw couldn’t be more apologetic and she knew the state of the rooms.  She mentioned she had had this all day and was clearly upset.    She was also working in the bar area.   Seemed very overworked!   Really felt for her.   A real Credit to the company.   
Breakfast was ok, we were the only ones in the bar area for breakfast. Cooked fresh.  Not buffet style.  Pre book it for discount.    

We did not leave and go to another hotel as eldest daughter had booked it for us and we didn’t want to upset her as it was a surprise but I wasn’t letting her pay £70 for a room in the state it was and it was only for one night.  

Booked a sea view room.   Sea view was through a fire escape set of steps outside the window, across the car park and over the road.  The room was on the side of the hotel and not the front as we expected for advertised sea view.  
We certainly would not stay again.

Car parking was on public pay and display next to the hotel.  There were
Spaces along the wall of the hotel for guests.   Register ocar number plate so you don’t have to pay.    

Very tired hotel that is in desperate need of some basic maintenance and thorough cleaning.

Perched on the edge of town, right in the front with great views of the promenade and Grand pier, Marstons, the old colonial is well positioned with its own parking, and across the road to the lovely beach 
I booked directly, and it gave us 20% off any food we ordered downstairs, Aaron is a great host who looked after us from when we walked through the door to when we left. 
So the room was ok, however the hot water ran a little slowly which made running a bath a bit of a mission. Apart from that, it was a comfortable, clean and warm room. 
Food was what you would expect, good quality, variety and reasonably priced. We eat there both nights as it seemed a little pointless to go out in the cold, when you had just what you needed right there, with 20% off.
Breakfast was also good, and worth the extra, full English being of a good size and quality, but equally you could have continental or just cereal. 
The place had a nice feel to it, and you were made to feel welcome. I think we will come back, as everything is walkable from here.
One observation is, that it needs a bit of a refresh as it’s obviously been open a while.
It wasn’t a fancy place, but felt homely.

Oldsters Colonial Delight.

Booked a 2 night stay at the old colonial as stayed here several times before but very disappointed this time. on arrival glasses from the bar area on the floor of carpark had to be picked up before driving into a space .Room was spacious but extremely dirty, the bathroom was extremely filthy in all areas the bedroom hasn’t seen a thorough hoover in a long time , without moving the bedside table the dirt and dust was thick and visible.not sure if the cleaning staff have changed but definitely gone down  in cleanliness since our last visit.sitting on the bed you can see the toilet needs a good clean of the rim, broken waste bin in bathroom with lid balanced on top , hot tap loose and swings around.had breakfast there one morning but decided to eat elsewhere the other day as was concerned kitchen May be unclean also.

Unfortunately not anywhere as good as previous visits

Stellar gem of a hotel right on the Weston-super-Mare seafront. Arron, the manager, is a star and bends over backwards to make you comfortable. Hotel's dated somewhat, as most seafront hotels tend to be, but the food is second to none. Lively bar through most of the week too. Go out of my way to stay whenever I'm working nearby.
