Recently stayed and felt the place was good for the price. 

Unfortunately, I was taken seriously ill after the first night and needed to be hospitalised for emergency surgery, and then I couldn’t return to the hotel at the time to collect my belongings.

I sent my best friend the same day, who got all they could see in my room but forgot most of my toiletries. 

Called the hotel who said they’d collect them up for me from the room to pick up. 

I remained in hospital and had to send a family member, who was given a few items but not the 2 bottles of somewhat expensive aftershave or the brand new deodorant. 

The hotel just said my friend had taken them but they 100% hadn’t - and refused to go into the room to check because someone else was now in there. 

Disappointing situation all round. Bookers just beware.

Spent two nights in this B n b 
room was at top of the house. it was very snall and barely functional really serving as only a place to sleep on the uncomfortable bed
Member of staff does provide a cooked breakfast and other breakfast options which is a bonus 
competitively priced but too basic for me.

Arrived to find a dark  room top landing attic room with 3 small beds. Partner couldn't turn as hit his head on sloping ceiling. Bed very hard. Shower Dangerous, came off on my hand spurting scalding water over my hand and couldn't turn off. Was told on arrival we could use shared landing bathroom if we wanted after paying for en suite?  We now know why! Few sheets on toilet roll - no spare. Mouldy  stinking bathroom. Stale smelling room. Stayed in good hotels and B&B s for over 30 years- definitely the worst we've seen. Landlord just stared blankly when I complained. NOT 4 star...not 1 star. Go elsewhere.

Stayed here last night  lovely room very clean.. breakfast well it was fantastic....Jack was lovely  even offered to take us to cruise terminal...ty Jack see u again soon...nothing was too much trouble recommend highly

Can anyone tell me if argyle lodge is still open as iv booked on telephone and was told I'd get a text to confirm but nothing back..booked for next month......and am not starting to get a bit concerned  I gave debit details to confirm but pay cash on arrival

The current owner Jack has only been in for a month, he was very welcoming and helpful. We stayed in a double room on the first floor which was very clean and had a new thick (slightly bouncy) mattress and bedding. The room had a (small) TV, Tea & coffee making facilities and Wi-Fi had a strong signal.  Breakfast consisted of a choice of cereals, yoghurts, prunes, bread/toast and jam, marmalade etc. A cooked breakfast was also provided which was very tasty. 
The accommodation is about 20 minutes’ walk from the town centre. We considered it good value for money and would happily stay there again when we visit Southampton.

Jack was very welcoming and helpful. Room clean and tidy and enjoyable breakfast.

My sister and I planned to stay here after a 10 day cruise.  I put in the reservation that I required a main floor accommodation for respiratory issues.  Ben was booking his own holiday when we checked in.  We were told we were in room 8 - which was half way between the first and second floor.  I told them that stairs were not an option for me.  Ben said that the people in the first floor room had decided to extend their stay.  We climbed two flights of narrow, steep stairs to find a nightmare.  The "beds" were thin pads that go on top of mattresses because there were not mattresses.  There was no air conditioning, or ceiling fan.  The bathroom was filthy and the toilet didn't flush.  
We knew we couldn't stay.  Back down the two stair cases with no air conditioning had me using a portable oxygen concentrator.  Another patron came in, saw me struggling, and called for an ambulance.  After securing transportation, he called for Ben to alert him to the emergency that was unfolding.  Ben called someone else on the phone.  In between breaths, I told Ben there was no way we could stay there and asked for a refund.  Ben said since I used booking.com to make the reservation, they were the only ones that could grant a refund.  The paramedics secured me to a stretcher, my sister called a cab to follow along, and we were rushed to the hospital. 
I ended up being admitted to the hospital for SEVENTEEN DAYS!!!  My sister had to go home to her job and her children.  I was in a country all alone, where I didn't know anyone.  Not being British, the "free" socialized medicine would not apply to me.  All of this would never have happened if Argyle Lodge had kept it's word and given me a room on the main floor.  On a 10 day cruise, I had not suffered a single instance of being short of breath.  My health crisis is directly linked to the treatment by the Argyle Lodge and Ben.
When I got home, I contacted booking.com.  They informed me that according to their policies, Ben could have given me a refund that day.  We sure could have used it because now we had to pay for my sister's stay at a place that was ADA compliant and my hospital bill.  I submitted medical documentation that showed the date I was admitted, that I came by ambulance, and the date of discharge.  They apologized profusely and said they would be contacting the property.
Imagine my disgust to learn that the Argyle Lodge had told booking.com that nothing I said was true, despite having the paperwork to prove what had happened.  The Argyle Lodge said my sister and I had stayed at their house (that is no inn), and had enjoyed our stay.  They invited me to hire an attorney to be treated fairly.
Save yourselves and look elsewhere.

Despises Disabled Individuals

Though requested and confirmed first floor room that was ADA friendly, upon arrival we were told that it was not available after all.  After expressing that we really had to have the room that we booked, we were told that there was one that was just up a few steps...we found out later this meant the third floor!  My sister tried  to make it, but got into serious trouble.  It was another guest that helped because the host Ben was to busy on a personal call. I left the key and said that we could not use the room while the other guest helped us to call an ambulance. I followed the ambulance to the Emergency department in a taxi. She was admitted that night and I did not return to that horrible place.  Though we were able to provide the documentation to Booking.com, the Argyle Lodge Lied and said that we stayed and liked it. REALLY? I don't know how many guests have to leave by ambulance, but I can't imagine that they did not remember the emergency that they created. No refund no apology just bills and a lie.  When we refuted what they reported we were invited to get a lawyer! Are they so short of business ethics that is acceptable to them? Apparently yes lying is ethical and disabilities are just made up and need no consideration at all.

Landed my sister in the hospital!

Stayed 11 nights in Argyle Lodge and had great experience. The room is clean. The modified English breakfast may not be so traditional but is definitely worth a try. The landlord is very friendly and forthcoming and very helpful. - highly recommend

Excellent B&B for travel and business trip

Great location - very quiet but only 15 minute walk to the centre - lovely room,  very clean, comfortable beds, hot shower, parking, great cooked  breakfast with plenty of choice - great hosts.- highly recommend
