A large group of us stayed across two rooms at Foxlease for a couple of nights and we had the most wonderful weekend. Staff were so friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere was homely and informal. As someone who struggles with travel anxiety, this put me right as ease as I felt very settled. 
Our meals were lovely and those of us with dietary requirements were catered to perfectly. 
The rooms were comfortable and cosy and gave us a stunning view out across the back lawn of the property. The bathrooms we had were decently sized and very clean. 
As a group of young people staying away together in a large group, we found the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable and cannot wait to go back. 

A joyful weekend

Very friendly staff but unfortunately it stops there. The building is simply obsolescent and the room filthy (carpet, bathroom ...). You can not open the windows to change the air, the toilet has broken ventilation and no warm water. We were allowed to use the bathroom of another room as courtesy service. The description of "swimming pool" and "bar / lounge" it is just not correct, maybe 30 years ago, but not now. 

Obsolescent and not clean ... 

Good food, chef catered beautifully with my dietary issues - no gluten or dairy. Facilities are basic but clean. Shower lovely - hot. Yes building does need some doing up but people forget this is an old building which has style. Also primary purpose of place is an activity centre. Staff were great,  anything I requested they sorted if they could.

Sewing retreat

Poor rating I'm afraid. All for £178 for the room and breakfast. On arrival the gate was locked with no member of staff to acknowledge us let alone let us in. We called the hotel number only to be cut off constantly after having to endure a recorded message each time about girl guides. Finally 15 mins later  a member of staff appeared on a golf buggy to let us in, we were then told that everytime we wanted to drive in or out of the hotel property, we had to unlock , operate and relocate the dirty heavy barrier ourselves. How an elderly or frail person would have coped, I don't know.  Now, the hotel. Lovely pictures on the website of lovely rooms, the main old house building etc. No, we were put in the coach house , which can only be described as a youth hostel with dormatrys type building. Unlit corridors, thin walls, rickety,  uneven beds, a tea and coffee stand with no plug sockets near it to plug the kettle in, and even then the sockets are half way up the wall and the kettle lead was only about 20cm long, work that one out,  NO tv in the room, drawer fronts hanging off of furniture, windows you can't even open properly in 34° stifling heat. Toilet we couldn't flush Floorboards that bounce in our room when the person in the next door room walked around. Breakfast a nightmare, poor food, virtually no service, and, get this, you had to clean your own table, scrape plates into bin, put cutlery away etc, basically the work of staff. Eventually we were relocated to the main building, into yet another dormitory,  this time with 6 (SIX) beds!!. 
This room not much better, loud humming noise comming from next room, bathroom light didn't work, etc etc. Serious attention to detail required at Foxlease,  especially for B&B guests. Not enough staff , especially service/maintenance and catering. Hence to say that we won't be going back.

I am really fussy about where i stay and although the main building is looking very tired and in need of even more cash, it was a joy, spotlessly clean, staff were so friendly and helpful.  The breakfast was perfect, i rarely enjoy a full English but this was exceptional.  The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable, pod style bathroom but awesome shower.  

an then look at the price!  exceptional value.  cant wait to return!

Amazing and unexpected treat

I've been here many times and the grounds are lovely and the accommodation is well priced for groups, but I think that Princess Margaret Lodge probably is due for a refurbishment now really. The bathrooms are starting to look quite damp, the paintwork is tired in places, the mattresses are getting a little lumpy and some of the kitchen appliances can be quirky. Also, if the group before you didn't clean well, you can find the rooms are in quite a state/smelly. But staff are very nice and it's a good way to bring a group to the New Forest without breaking the bank. I am undecided as to whether I think adding wifi to PML would be good or bad - at the moment you have to go back to the main lodge, which means you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings more easily, but is a bit surprising in this day and age too!

Probably ready for a refurb

We were a group of 21 staying in Princess Margaret Lodge. We had to pay extra per head as we decided to book the full house. This was a great decision. The lodge was a great base as it was about 500m from the main house. The girls had voted in advance to do Raft-building, High Ropes and Tunnelling. The instructors Michael for Raft-Building and Hight Ropes and Alex for Tunnelling were super. The girls 'fell' for Michael and he handled it so appropriately. He was great at giving them instruction when needed, encouragement and then knowing when to say to them to get on with it. We also used the swimming pool on-site and it was a big hit. We also spent a morning in Lyndhurst which is just a short walk. We self-catered and used Tesco for our groceries and they were delivered at the time of our arrival. We used The New Forest Butcher (based in Lyndhurst) for all our meat and they couldn't have been more helpful. There was a staff member who came from Girl Guiding HQ who opened the shop for our girls and was so helpful with a number of issues. On our last night, we had a super campfire at the campfire circle. Am already thinking about going back...in a few years time.

Girl Guide group visit - staying in Princess Margaret Lodge

Most of the activities were decent and lots of the staff were nice, the food however was indescribably awful and made me sick to the point that I just didn’t eat food for the rest of my time there. I would not recommend coming here because you could go somewhere for far cheaper for better pricing.

School trip

Stayed here as a friend was holding a special birthday party in the walled garden.  Must admit the room was heart sinking.. basic single beds at an angle to each other, pod bathroom, cold and uninviting. Hostel like... breakfast poor. Definitely overpriced and would not recommend.
