I do not understand how a "hotel" with such a good location can be so dire! I have been to some low standard hotels before but this takes low to the lowest possible level. As soon as we walked in we could see the place was dated and not in a good state of repair. Thinking we could cope as we were going to be out most of the time, we checked in.However we were shown first to a twin room down in a dingy basement as we went down the very narrow staircase, the smell rose to hit us.A mix of very strong cat urine mixed with bin juice and others.It was disgusting. A door was wedged open which said "Keep closed at all times" ! and beyond that door the corridor was strewn with what looked like sleeping bags and clothes and rubbish. It looked like people were rough sleeping there.Mentioning the smell we were shown back upstairs to a double with ensuite. Initially we thought it would be ok but the walls and furniture had splashes and streaks of something everywhere, the windows were filthy and the curtain pole hanging at a weird angle with a threadbare pair of curtains .No blinds and single glazed so you could hear people in the unclean courtyard below..not a pleasant view. Every time a train/tube went past the windows rattled furiously. Shower screen looked barely wiped over and the floors looked mediocre but hairs and dust in the corners. Mirror again covered in splashes of some liquid. The furniture was laughable..think it was picked out of a skip in 1989 . The kettle was perched on a paint splashed plastic chair next to the bed at a precarious angle. Carpet did not look clean. Initially thought the bed looked clean but as we sat on it we both started to itch. Last straw so we decided to leave..we had only been there 5 mins. Contacted Zen immediately but they are no help. The whole hotel is unclean and smells.The smell of cat urine and bins as you go downstairs is overwhelming. Not sure what was splashed and smeared over the walls, windows and furniture!
