Another lovely overnight stay. Warm, friendly welcome from Kim who, after checking us in, was kind enough to put on the Cheltenham Festival on in the bar for us to watch and ensured we had everything we needed all afternoon. Staff were all great, very attentive. Food (dinner and breakfast) was delicious, perfectly cooked. Room was comfortable and quiet. Look forward to staying again!

My partner and I stayed there for our anniversary on 22/2/24. Kaitland and Vincent made our stay very special. They were so friendly and welcoming. Kaitland gave us a beautiful room upstairs and Vincent served us our meal at night. We will definitely be back!

Anniversary to remember

We booked a two-night stay in a suite, which after a friendly welcome at reception we found to be warm and made up for a family with the pull-out couch as a bed, which we thought was a really nice touch. It was the best “typical” stay we’ve ever had in Scotland, in that while yes the rooms need to be updated - the bed was comfy and warm, and everything was SUPER clean. We could hear noise in the morning and into the late hours but it didn’t bother us, it was rather expected as the pub was lively and again, this is part of a “typical” thing at a Scottish country inn, part of the charm. The staff were attentive, friendly, well-trained and helpful in every aspect of our stay. The food was very high quality; we enjoyed our breakfasts which were made to order and everything from the soup to the steaks were delicious at dinner. It was such a welcome break, kids were welcome and we felt very safe and happy. Loved the views - an idyllic and tranquil setting with the hills and the route was busy with cyclists, walkers and cars. We would stay again, and we would recommend it as the best traditional Scottish B&B experience we’ve ever had.

Wonderful Scottish B&B

Cracking wee place and very reasonable for a nights stay. Comfy bed, good shower, welcoming and friendly FOH, bar and restaurant staff, great food, beautiful location… perfect! Oh and our dog was welcomed too. 
Ideal location for breaking up the long journey from Highlands to Midlands, it’s so close to Glasgow yet it’ll heart of the countryside. The Campsie Fells are stunning and there’s a great walk just around the corner along the old railway line.

Great location, food, stay & welcome

Stay was okay, except for the very loud event happening in the bar downstairs. No one told us this event was happening and it was very loud in our room until 12am. We were hoping for a relaxing early night in and this was not what we got.

Too loud

The kirkhouse inn looked great from the outside. The bar area and reception was very nice. Unfortunately when we got to our room we found it was very unclean. In the bathroom it was clear someone had shaved and they hadnt even wiped away the hairs. Makes you wonder what else they havent cleaned when they dont even wipe away the most obvious dirt. Other than that the room was worn. The trashbags in the bins were dirty, you could see they had just taken the trash out of the bag and not changed the bag. The bed was the most uncomfortable out of all four hotels we stayed in and the bar was right underneath us. It sounded like the party was in our room. Also no wifi in the room.

Stayed overnight whilst passing through the area. Downstairs is a largely open space and the dining "area" is next to the bar which can be a little noisy if there is sport being shown on the large screen tv. That said the staff were friendly and the food excellent. The wi-fi is not available in the bedrooms and they are a little dated but clean. Ask for a room away from the bar area if noise particularly bothers you. We thought is was a lovely place to stay.

Good value of money

Stayed one night in Room 19 on 21/9/2023. Asked for room change next day due to lack of wifi which was agreed but when we tried to tell owner about the various faults as he should know about them, he accused us of being abusive, insisted on giving a refund and was adamant we should leave which we had to do. Unable to book any hotel within 10 miles as it was a Bank Holiday weekend. Faults were:
No info re breakfast or meal times or menus or prices. Had to ask. 
WiFi in bedroom too weak to get on any websites so we couldn't watch TV on the laptop in bed. No TV in bedroom either.
No mattress cover on the bed.
Bed very short, about 5.5 feet long. Double not kingsize.
No wardrobe. Grubby cupboard off the sitting room with rail and hooks attached to walls for clothes hangers. Very makeshift. Ceiling stained.
No wall electrical sockets at suitable height for kettle. Had to turn the bin upside down on the floor and place kettle on that to reach the socket. Dangerous.
General level of finish and decor very poor:
Grubby broom cupboard as above;
white paint splashes on bedroom wall painted a darker colour;
sash cord cut and hanging from bedroom window;
window paint poorly finished;
black around sealant around bath;
wallpaper peeling in bathroom;
lumps of dirty sealant at the back of the bath taps;
windows of bedroom and sitting room have obviously patched up ceiling above them where presumably some other curtain rail or whatever has been removed;
dirty black/mouldy overflow to sink.


Bad experience

Had a meal tonight which was lovely although the Caesar salad was lacking anchovies! 
First time we have visited in a while and not sure I like the layout of the dining area with the bar/pool table/Tv just off it. We were there for a quiet meal but there was a lot of noise from the bar area. This would put me off having a special meal there. Shame because the food was lovely.
