We were pleasantly surprised by this gem of a find on arriving here. Met with a warm welcome by all the lovely staff we were shown to a welcoming and inviting room. Spacious warm very clean and very comfortable. !! The selection of welcome goodies  and treat’s totally has outshone any of the big hotels or chains. I couldn’t think of a single thing that could be added.  I had the best nights sleep ever in the most comfortable bed i have ever slept on. We had an evening meal and breakfast which were both superbly cooked tasty and very generous in portion size. My only disappointment …. ? We only stayed one night ! 
The pub and 5 star room is in the centre of Bakewell so perfectly placed for visiting the village Chatsworth House or any of many other attractions in the area. Its very rare I rave about a place because theres usually something to make it less than perfect …. But not at The Manners.  We will certainly return.

A golden find

My husband and I really enjoyed our one night stay. Emma and her husband were warm, friendly and welcoming. The room was just right for what we wanted. There were lots of nice little gifts left for guests eg sweets, chocolate and toiletries. The latter were unexpected and exceptional. Lots of special teas and coffees to make your own drinks as well as biscuits. We ate the lot. The bed was lovely and comfortable. Regarding the food, we had a great evening meal and an exceptional full vegetarian English breakfast. This was served by Emma who was so attentive. It’s not ‘posh’ or luxurious and frankly we didn’t want that anyway. It was cosy and unpretentious and we would go again and recommend it to our friends. We were going to take our dog but decided not to at the last minute but he would have been welcomed as well. Also it’s situated in a convenient position to get to the town centre with good and safe parking. Thank you to all the staff.

Really great experience at this pub, lovely people. Lovely room  food love 2 lovely  nights here.  Bakewell a beautiful place and the Manners is central to all.  Can't  recommend  too highly will be back

BED VERY SOFT AND COMFY

After a hard days walking we were staying in Bakewell and went to the Manners for our dinner, while the menu was limited we ordered a safe bet. good old fish and chips and peas ,when the waitress set the plates down we were horrified to see the greasy fish and awful looking chips ,my wife poked some fish out off the batter and ate that but couldn’t face the chips ,I did manage to eat some off them .When the waitress lifted our plates and asked how was our meal ,I told here it was the fish and chips I had ever seen or tasted ,see said sorry I replied that it was not her fault ,when I went to pay they made no comment and offered no reduction ,to me the money wasn’t the issue it was just such an awful meal after a hard but pleasant days walking 

An awful meal

We met some long lost family here earlier this week. A nice traditional pub. The staff were very pleasant and we had a nice two-course lunch. A warm cozy atmosphere and we weren't rushed. Happy to return another day. We did not stay overnight.

Rotten experience. We have stayed here twice before and had very good experiences. We made arrangements because of these. We knew that the management had changed and so we stayed at different accommodation. We went to the Manners for food and a space to watch the Six Nations. 

Two key issues: staff (training and responsibility) and food quality. 

Young staff on duty who were not in a position to make sensible decisions that catered for all the customers. Lack of senior support evident. 

Food quality poor. Looked like a ready meal from a bag. Tasteless. 

We cannot recommend and will not be returning. 

To note if you want to watch rugby in Bakewell the Queen's Arms had a number of screens and a great atmosphere with very welcoming staff. No food service though.  

Change of manager has been a disaster for this place.

Don’t!  Room nothing like photo, bath only suitable for someone under ten it was so small. No food available and no heating!   We asked for the heating to be looked at and was told landlady was in flat above and they would contact her, also asked for extra blankets.  Went down to bar about 30 minutes later (9:30pm). to find it closed and locked- obviously no one had bothered to investigate the heating or come up with blankets.

Don’t bother!

We got an email before advising hotel had changed owners but our booking would still be ok . We booked bed and breakfast only to be told that breakfast would be served at a different pub around the corner. We went to see the Manager who was rather unapologetic and in fact advised us that breakfast was free and actually all we had paid for was the room! (Sorry I thought Bed and Breakfast meant exactly that! )We did ask if he had any rooms available at the pub where breakfast was being served but told no sorry. However booking.com was advising us that 2 rooms were available ! We were very unhappy with his attitude perhaps he should let people know the arrangements when they book and perhaps a ‘I am really sorry can I offer you a drink on the house’ would have been a more pleasant professional way to handle the situation. The breakfast and service was very good so praise where it is due. The bedrooms were very basic and whilst I appreciate the pub is being renovated I do feel very disappointed. I would stopping here until the pub had been refurbished.

Ideal location walking distance from Center of town and a good base to explore this area of the Peak District.

Weekend break

Although in the centre of town the bedroom was quiet.  The room was clean and welcoming and plenty of space for us and our 2 four legged guests.
The breakfast was one of the best we've had, freshly cooked, quality ingredients and prepared and served by people who care.
