This is quite the find.  A true gem off the beaten path that will transform the way you see The Turks and Caicos.  Nestled in Mudjin Harbor in Middle Caicos is a charming, boutique resort with tucked away cottages that have incredible views in every direction.  Escape the hustle and bustle and touristy type atmosphere and find yourself in a secluded island paradise with pathways to beach caves and enjoy a truly intimate glimpse to the historical beaches of Mudjin Harbor.  You will feel like you have stepped into another world.  The beaches here are not for lounging or swimming, but more-so to awaken the soul.  Taking in the scenery here is life changing.  This is the perfect place to get away from it all.  One should know a few things before exploring north and middle Caicos.  The journey to getting there requires a boat or a ferry ride (about $35) and a private driver or rental car is needed.  Understand that this area of TCI is quite primitive in many places, so patience and supplies are definitely a must.  There is a restaurant called Mudjin Bar and Grill just a short walk from the cottages.  It is small and sometimes things like ice are limited so give them some grace.  The food is quite tasty and it is the only restaurant close by.  It closes at 3pm.  It also closes during "silly season" which is there slow season in part of August and all of September, some will stay closed until mid October.   Bringing snacks, water, light bites and bug spray is pretty much a MUST.  Don't wait until you arrive to seek these items.  There is one very small and very minimal convenience store.  DO NOT expect to wake up and go grab a coffee somewhere.  There are two other restaurants that we found but it was a bit of a drive from D.C.  The Barracuda Beach Bar was an open air tiki hut type place right on the beach.  The menu is simple but quite good.  The drinks were strong and the staff is friendly and unbelievably accommodating.  They close quite early and we arrived fairly close to closing time because we got a bit lost with directions (GPS isn't always accurate here).  The staff went out of their way to create some dishes for us and we made sure to tip them quite well for their outstanding service.  Had they not done this we would have gone without food -hence the suggestion to make sure you bring lite bites with you). 

Another find was a newly opened restaurant called Ocean Breeze.  Quite adorable and the staff was super friendly.  They had some really nice island dishes and we noted that they served breakfast.  A breakfast place is a rare find here.  

Another thing to note is the roads.  They can be a bit bumpy and a little on the rougher side, but we spent most of the time laughing at the navigation around the potholes.  It isn't all that bad.  

The biggest suggestion to be made is to approach it with excitement and adventure.  Make sure you have solid shoes, the pathways and rough stairs cut into the coral can be a little tedious.  There are so many unique and fun spots to check out.  It is definitely for the more adventurous and hearty travelers looking to explore the more primitive side of TCI and really dive into the culture and history.  Some of the information I provided should NOT deter you from this trip.  It just may not be for small children or less agile travelers.  It is definitely a place for an adventurous spirit or someone really craving time to reboot the soul.  

One thing is an absolute MUST!!!  Load up on the bug spray or bring a Thermacell and DO NOT miss the night sky here....it is nothing shy of an epic experience.  I am so grateful the people I was traveling with were photographers who were able to capture the stunning starscape! 

But it IS absolutely worth it!

A Totally Incredible Little Boutique Resort-And a MUST When Visiting North and Middle Caicos

Dragon Cay Resort is like no other place in the world - the setting on a cliff, looking down over Mudjin Harbour, with panoramic views up and down the coastline- absolutely breathtaking, and so completely unspoiled.

In the evenings of our stay at Solstice Villa, we felt such a sense of peace and harmony with the beautiful surroundings. The villa itself is lovely- perfect for two couples, very well equipped and decorated.

The staff for check in were very pleasant and helpful.

If you are staying in low season, as we were, remember to bring provisions from Provo as the shops in North Caicos only have a limited selection, and there may not be many restaurants open.

If you have a chance to visit - don’t miss it!

Like no other place in the world!

My husband and I had the most perfect trip to Dragon Cay Resort!! It was worth the time and effort to make the trek out to Middle Caicos. We had lunch at the restaurant most days, and made dinner in Sunrise Cottage each night (with groceries that we ordered in Provo and carried over on the ferry). A car rental is a must. 

If you like lots of people, luxurious accommodations, and lots of things to do - this is not the trip for you. If you like hours alone on the most gorgeous beaches, with nights in a (sparkling clean) airy beach cottage — this is the trip and this is the place for you!!

We drove to Bambarra Beach early in the mornings to enjoy the solitude on that beach before the first ferry arrived; we toured Conch Bar Caves (quick but worth the time in our opinions), did a quick walk through nearby Indian Cave, drove to North Caicos for lunch and Pumpkin Bluff Beach (off the beaten path, but worth the time).

Dragon Cay Resort was the perfect home base - remote, but not so much that it felt unsafe. The stars at night were beautiful . The staff was very helpful and accommodating - but we didn’t really need anything from them because everything was in order when we arrived! Secret Beach was our favorite. We hope to come back soon before everyone finds out about this place!

Paradise!

Dragon Cay Resort was the perfect place to put your toes in the sand, listen to the waves and enjoy the panormic view of the ocean. We enjoyed the quiet island atmosphere after being surrounded by tourists on Provo. The layout of the studio cottage made it feel big and had everything we needed. The staff went out of their way to accomodate our requests (e.g., early check-in, use of grill). The Mudjin Harbor restaurant was a short walk down the stone pathway and the food was declicious for both lunch and dinner. We were lucky to be there for "Lobsterval" where the griled lobster was actually bigger and better than in Maine. Groceries on the island were limited but there is a good wine/liquor shop in Bottle Creek with reaonsable prices, so no need to buy that on Provo. We recommend buying any meat/veggies on Provo to bring in a cooler on the Ferry. The restaurant was open for lunch every day but was only open for dinner on weekends. The resort's stone pathways lead to look out points and 2 beaches. Cottage came with beach umbrella, chairs and towels. To get to the hidden beach, follow the path down through the cave to find a fabulous beach where there is likely no one on it. It is rare that you can go somewhere for a few nights and leave feeling like you've been there for a week! Middle Caicos is laid back, the people are very friendly. There is nothing to do but relax, so if you want to get away from it all, this is the place do go!

The Place to Go to Get Away from it All

This place was magical and everywhere you looked was just beautiful! The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, both on site and via email or WhatsApp. They arranged our airport transport, helped with the rental car agency, gave recommendations for food/meals, and helped arrange our kayaking excursion with Spot on E Bikes! We stayed in the Sunset cottage, which was perfect for my husband and I, and had the most gorgeous views every evening while planning our evening meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The restaurant was delicious and there was always very friendly staff working there too! We highly recommend this resort for anyone looking for a place to get away from it all and to see some of the most gorgeous sights ever! We will be back, thanks so much again for the most wonderful stay! 

Sunset Memories

We absolutely loved our stay at Dragon Cay. We stayed in the sunrise cottage and it had gorgeous views. The patio on this one is not screened in but we brought bug spray and stayed off the porch as dusk and dawn when bugs are the worst and had no issues. Everything was as described, beach, cottage, ect. It is not the fanciest of places, but you are made well aware of that when booking. It is truly an unspoiled area and as such you don’t have the same amenities as other areas. We knew this and set expectations as such by bringing most of what we would need (groceries/bug spray/water). We did go to North Caicos to grab a few things one day and they had a decent selection of items if needed. 

We liked the onsite restaurant and everyone was welcoming and friendly. Short drive to Bambarra Beach (Must do!) and the secret beach and Mudjin Harbor at the resort are amazing. There are not many people and you may be the only one on the beach at any given time.  While we loved our time in Provo this was our favorite part of our trip. 😊

We kited between North and Middle Caicos - the country's best flat spot.
We simply loved our stay. We'll do it again for sure.

Great Stay

Great location with great views and easy walk to Mudjin Harbor, short drive to North Caicos and Bambarra beach in Middle Caicos. The islands as a whole don't have much in supplies and when we went on a Sun afternoon, all grocery stores had already closed down (2:00pm ferry from Provo to North via Caribbean Cruisin) - not much you can do about that other than carry much (but what about perishables....). Nice peaceful and private cottage. We did run into a broken coffee maker (in Provo and here on this vacation!) but was replaced albeit only next day because everyone was gone Sun afternoon. Don't expect a lot of facilities (no in unit laundry or even a laundromat, dry your wet beach clothes on the porch and hope it dries enough!), but otherwise a very good place to stay. Bambarra is the shallowest beach we have ever seen, great for small kids but perhaps not ideal for adults or for snorkeling etc.). Mudjun Harbor reminded me of the Cliffs of Mohr (this is smaller) a little except this has a beach too with easy access.

Great unique location and view

Always a great relaxed atmosphere great staff and clean rooms. We enjoy the stars and Bambarra beach also  Also go to Sea View Cafe a mile past turn in to mudjin  The Locvely lady that owns it will take very good care of you. Always fresh and delicious 
Barracuda bar is also a great lunch spot. They open noon everyday

Paradise on Middle

This was our 10th visit to Dragon Cay! Truly! an amazing property with one of the nicest beaches in the Caribbean. Very quiet and relaxed atmosphere. There is a restaurant that is open for lunch every day and for dinner on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The property is managed by Caicos Cactus and specifically by Marilyn who makes sure that you incredibly well taken care of.
