I've been going to this hotel for a few months now, but the good news is that it's very cheap and clean enough, but it's very basic, sad, breakfast is ridiculous, it could take a little effort, the neighborhood is full of bakeries and bakeries, they could offer some Turkish sweets or local yogurt with honey, well, I don't understand, there are other hotels nearby that with a few extra lira, they can provide a better service, and the competition should stimulate...

The minimum... the very minimum.

Our rooms with French beds had a window overlooking the city, which helped make the stay in this hotel more affordable. The staff doesn't speak English and can't even describe it as very cozy. The atmosphere is a bit sad, anything but inviting!

The minimum necessary

A very cheap hotel but personally I would not recommend it to anyone who wants a minimum of comfort, the furniture is very old and the room is certainly not cozy, not to mention the bathroom which besides being small does not inspire much but hygiene. My experience lasted one night because the next day I decided to change hotel, but in case you have zero expectations and a high spirit of adaptability it can be a very cheap option to stay in Bursa.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the Atlas Otel in February 2007.  Our room had 3 beds in it (2 twins and 1 double), and was on the fourth floor.  With all of the beds, there was little space to move around, but there was a wardrobe for our huge suitcases, so we managed fine.  The shower with bath was clean and spacious.  There was a stocked fridge in our room.  We also had a TV and free internet access (the hotel supplied us with an ethernet cord which we could use to hook up our laptop in our room).  Breakfast was standard for Turkey: cold meats, rolls, butter, honey, olives, tomatoes, cheeses and tea.  There was usually a hot food option as well (eg., fried dough with a cheese filling, etc.).  

The only issues: we had a noisy neighbor who watched his television very loudly, and there is a mosque very near to the hotel, so we were woken at 6 a.m. the first few mornings.  To block out our neighbor, we turned on the loud bathroom fan :)  To block out the morning call to worship, we slept with earplugs.

We had NO PROBLEM with people or men standing around.  I think the earlier reviewer was probably being hassled by visitors, as this hotel attracts a variety of people from all over Europe.  While we were at the Atlas, the majority of people there with us were businessmen.

Cekirge is a lovely part of Bursa, and much more attractive than staying in downtown Bursa, which can be very crowded.  In Cekirge, you get a nice view of the mountains.  People in Cekirge are not used to seeing visitors, but my husband and I, who have been in Bursa for 4 months now, have found that to be the case anywhere in Bursa.  If you travel with a smile and practice a few words of Turkish with people you meet (in stores, hotels, and with people you meet while drinking tea, etc.), you will doubtless get a warm response.  Many Turks are very excited to meet foreigners, and will extend their generosity and helpfulness to you.  This has overwhelmingly been our experience in Turkey.

If you are seeking an inexpensive, clean hotel in a nice part of Bursa, the Atlas Otel is a good option.


Central Location - Great Price!

Despite the previous review written here, we could find no other place to stay at a reasonable rate. We were two families on vacation (brothers, spouses, and kids) so value was important. We also had a van and driver available. While the hotel was out of the main area, it was not an issue. We did find a restaurant and a small grocery nearby and the people were very nice. 

The hotel looks to have been beautiful once, but has fallen on hard times. The woodwork and stained glass were beautiful and the courtyard was probably cool and beautiful in the summer. But it did have the look of benign neglect. The hallway carpets were a little threadbare, but clean. Breakfast was marginal and served in a dimly list basement room. It reminded me of many a church dining hall. The stairs were beautiful wood, but with occasional beams so low that my husband gave up and took the elevator every trip.

Our family enjoyed the Turkish Bath. It seemed clean and was furnished with soap, shampoo, and towels. There were few people there in late September, so there was no rush. 

The night crew spoke little English, but tried to help when needed. The daytime crew had at least one person who spoke English and was very helpful. The price quoted us on the phone is what we paid.

It was fine as a place to spend the night.


An aging hotel, still good value

My friend and I were excited about visiting the Atlas Hotel and being able to take advantage of the reputable Mineral Baths in the the area-- the hotel offers private baths that you can soak in as part of your stay. After being in Istanbul and being around lots of people, we found Cekirge (where the hotel is- not Bursa proper) to be a sleepy place- that  was not overly friendly towards tourists. The hotel was pretty much vacant, except for us and a few other male business travellers. We enjoyed the private bath, but later when we entered the lobby, we experienced severe male harrassment of cat calling and hissing-- while the male hotel clerk looked on. When we returned to our room, a man followed us and knocked on the door (11pm at night)...saying that he was the reception-- very scary. We did'nt open the door, but could hear him waiting outside the door for about a half hour. In the morning, we complained to the front desk-- who was a woman in the am- and asked for our money back to leave. When I went to use the internet at the hotel, many porn sites popped up immediately on the screen. I felt unsafe at this hotel and would not recommend it to women travellers. I also feel that if your main interest is to see the city of Bursa, it is out of the way. The mineral baths are okay, but not worth being isolated in a creepy little town who are'nt thrilled about visitors. There were'nt many dining options in the area. Overall- scary experience.
