Beautiful old building with wonderfully decorated and furnished rooms. We stayed in 'Seyyed' 
Lovely breakfast in small open courtyard and supper on top of the building ( second tallest in Stone Town) in the restaurant with perfect panoramic views of entire town and sea. Food was first class in quality, presentation and service with live music too. 
Cannot fault the experience.

Old Style Perfection

Beautifully unique rooms. Super friendly and kind staff. Definitely recommend the dinner on the rooftop. Everything was amazing!

This toproof restaurant is located in stone town and you definitely need a reservation. Dinner starts at 7.00 pm for all guests. You have the choice between swahili seating on the ground in cushions or at the table.
The view is perfect for the sundowner before dinner!
Service and food were great, the live music was rather horrible because the female singers were so bad. But that was more funny than ennoying!
We had a wonderful evening!

Superb Dinner

We spent three nights in the West room, the perfect culmination to an unforgettable trip to Tanzania. 

What I loved:
The team - all so very friendly and welcoming <3
The location - a few minutes from the waterfront, the market, etc. 
Our room: At the top of the hotel with a small balcony, you can lie in bed and look out across roof tops to the sea. 
The dark wood lattice panels letting in the breeze. 
Listening to the rain on the rooftop. 
The cooling fan over the bed. 
The bed! it’s very comfy and you feel to be in a fairytale though You might need the step to get up onto it. 

Other aspects:
The bath with overhead shower is in the room so you need to be comfortable with your partner. 
As anywhere in Stone Town, the calls to prayer at 5am ensure that you won’t miss a day ;)

I’d go back tomorrow!

Magical

Another wonderful stay. Very central and staff extremely helpful. The Swahili style roof terrace is the highest in Stone town and having lunch there was a highlight. Like other old buildings on Zanzibar there is no lift but the stairs adds to the charm.

Wonderful Swahili style hotel

If you want to immerse yourself in Zanzibar and have an authentic experience, this is the place. Emerson on Hurumzi felt like home during our five-day trip thanks to an amazing staff. From the minute we checked in, we were made to feel comfortable and cared about. Stone Town is a bit chaotic and everyone here gave us what we needed -- making dinner reservations, finding an ATM, hooking us up with the most amazing tour/activity magician Khalid, who arranged fabulous, bespoke tours every day. Callouts to both Hamises and Fiona at the front desk for being so sweet, helpful and fun. And don't miss a dinner on the beautiful rooftop!

If you want a real taste of Zanzibar

On our friends recommendation we went to emerson on hurumzi terrace for lunch. We chose to sit in swahili style setting and had the traditional zanzi vegetarian lunch. We were surprised to see that they had a full set menu even for vegetarians, which is quite thoughtful. Food was delectable and we thoroughly enjoyed it with that spectacular view. You can see the whole stone town from this terrace. Its built in an old charm building in narrow lanes of stone town. A must visit for lunch or dinner to experience a glimpse of Swahili culture.

A true Zanzi experience!

We visited on our only night in Stone Town for a birthday celebration, it was nothing short of fantastic. Would certainly recommend eating on the traditional terrace rather than the tables as there was a much better sense of atmosphere. The food was fantastic and well catered for any dietary requirements - despite being a set menu, waiting team happily varied dishes on the menu so that all could enjoy. The view was simply stunning and the live music, singing and dancing made the whole experience totally unforgettable. They even sang Happy Birthday in Swahili and brought us desert with a sparkler in.

Brilliant Birthday Dinner

Very centrally located hotel. We were met at the car because the streets are so narrow you have to walk, maybe 5 minutes. The staff are very helpful and carried our cases from the car directly to the room. The hotel is a collection of old house joined together by stairs and walkways which makes it very interesting, however, if you have walking difficulties this is a definite no-no, you can’t really access anywhere without climbing stairs. Our room was high up which gave us a great view over the city. The rooms are very traditional, so if you are looking for a model hotel this is not for you, but, if you like tradition then it is a big thumbs up. As it is centrally located it is easy to walk around the city. Stone Town had a very safe feeling to walk around, there are street security doted around but I don’t think it is essential. The staff are the hotel are very friendly and helpful. 

I would highly recommend this hotel if you like traditional and can climb stairs !

Would we return, yes definitely.

Restaurant/lunch only, I know nothing of the hotel. Great rooftop lounge, friendly staff and enjoyable food made for a great lunch in Stone Town.  Fresh breeze, well endowed with pillows and generally super relaxing. Food good, but not 5 points good.

Bib gourmand.
