Fantastic location, a stone's throw from the Dar Express Bus Station, which came in use... Very accommodating, we were the only guests there on arrival and were immediately made to feel guilty after we returned from lunch and were greeted by a couple of chickens being put on the grill especially for us. We had some chicken and chips - a Tanzanian delicacy (genuinely!) - which was fantastic. They also woke up early to make breakfast for us, and ran us down to the bus stop with our luggage when it looked like we might miss it...!

Really great place close to the center. Quiet place, well maintained with good and helpful staff. The rooms are clean and well equipped. You just need to ask staff to switch on the hot water when you need it. Next door of lodge is excellent cafe with good coffee. 

Perfect place to stay 1 or 2 nights when travelling through Moshi. Staff was really  helpfull (even came after us to give back 50$ we paid to much). The location is amazing, when the weather is good you can have breakfast (or a beer) with a beautiful view of the Kilimanjaro.

Note: a couple of showers weren't working very well.

Central, quiet spot in Moshi with great bespoke menu

We stayed here one night after the Serengetti tour. It is a basic hotel with rooms all on the one level. rooms are comfortable and beds firm. Our room was not prpeared. We had to make our own bed. Bed sheet provided but had to ask for blanket. there was no power points in the room for charging your devices. bathroom to store toiletries or towels only soap provided.
Wifi throughout the hotel even in bedrooms. had a meal on arrival but had to wait 45 mins for it to be prepared..
Breakfast basic. Fruit (apple), juice (watermelon), bread no toast, eggs your request, omelette, scrambled etc, tea and coffee.

Basic - Comfortable

Basecha Garden Lodge in Moshi is located off the street with a spacious yard and wall  to remove it from the noise of the busy street. It is very close to where the bus stops. Touts will descend upon you as you exit the bus-- ignore them when they tell you that it is a long way and you will need a taxi. Also ignore anyone trying to sell you safaris or anything else. The lodge is small but the staff is lovely. The room is basic but fine for a short stay at a budget price.

My wife and I were looking for a cheap place to stay in Moshi after our Kilimanjaro hike so we could explore the town. Basecha Garden Lodge is a cheap option in the middle of Moshi and is also quite near the Riverside Bus stop. The location was ideal for us since we were able to explore shops and restaurants while walking to the Moshi market before catching our bus back to Nairobi. There are few options in downtown Moshi that are cheaper than Basecha. 

The property, on the other hand, left much to be desired. As their name implies, the hotel has green space in front of the property, but it's more of a lawn than a garden. There is also a lot of unfinished construction around, which makes for a weird ambiance. It has a bar where you can by drinks. However, there isn't anyone staffed to run it. You have to hope the staff notices you standing outside by the bar or get a receptionist to come by and grab a drink out of the locked cold case. 

All of the above I could have looked past given the price of the hotel. Some other things were harder to ignore. The advertised Wifi never worked. When we logged in, it seemed perhaps Basecha had not paid the bill to keep it functioning. The rooms had a fan, but no AC, so they got rather warm. The hotel also does not have a backup generator, which we discovered when the power went out of several hours around dusk. We went to bed earlier than expected after getting ready by phone light due to the outage.

Had some of the details not been lacking, we would have enjoyed our discount stay at Basecha. However, given the lack of basic execution, I would recommend looking else ware unless you are on the most limit budget.

Value for the location, but details are lacking

PROS. Good location in downtown Moshi, close to many banks and restaurants, but not a noisy area. Nice outdoor seating area. The showers were hot. There was AC in the room.

CONS. The staff aren't very friendly and can barely communicate in English. The wifi didn't work at all in our room. The bathroom stank.

Wouldn't recommend

Bad customer service. We sat on the garden for more than one hour. No one came to ask if we needed anything. Disappointed we decided to leave.  Based on their blog We expected a better service . They need professional waiters
