B&B Haus Im Löchli

My wife and I stayed here on our 3-day visit to Lucerne.  The B&B Haus im Loechli is in the town of Littau, a few miles west of downtown Lucerne.   It is a short walk from the train station.  Raymond provided us with free train passes so the 10-minute ride to and from Lucerne did not cost anything.   We really enjoyed the B&B which looks very Swiss-like on the side of a steep grass-covered hill complete with goats!  The daily breakfast was great -- best of the three hotels/B&Bs we stayed in on this trip.  Raymond was very friendly and a great host.  There was only one restaurant close by the B&B so you might want to dine in Lucerne.  The room wasn't fancy but it was comfortable and clean.  We like to do something different than the standard hotel room so this B&B was perfect for us.

Outstanding B&B near Lucerne

Thank you very much Jennifer & Raimond for their hospitality and for how they made us feel... Like at home! rustic, simple but very nice B&B! The gazebo outside, the small garden, the particular furnishings but at the same time delicious! We will not forget Raimond's Italian chatter... and their kindness! They made us two free train tickets (to and from) that connects Littau (the station is practically under the hotel) to the center of Lucerne in 7 minutes! (The train passes every half an hour). It was comfortable and fast, without parking and traffic problems. Superlative breakfast... The rosti in particular was great!!! (much better than what we had eaten one day before in the center of Lucerne and a place where people didn't forget to eat).

Simplicity and beauty... even the people who handle it!

A very comfortable stay in a  traditional Swiss farmhouse, complete with farmhouse breakfast.  Ray and Jennifer are warm and friendly hosts and do all they can to make your stay with them as enjoyable as possible.  Where else could you fill up water bottles  from a garden tap which is direct from a mountain spring?  Although the weather was very hot they made sure our room was kept cool and comfortable.  Our stay here was the perfect start to our golden wedding anniversary holiday.

Jennifer and Raymond run their delightful B&B as personal friends. They are so welcoming, so warm, so courteous...

The rooms are nice... but the garden is extraordinary... After the Lucerne Festival concerts, we are the luckiest: instead of rushing to crowded Lucerne restaurants, we bring our takeaway to the peace of the garden. Heavenly!

Delightful B&B

This is a great B&B in one of Lucerne's suburbs.
The train station to the center of Lucerne is 200m away, and the B&B provides free tickets to the city.
The hosts, Jennifer and Raymond, are very nice and helpful.
Jennifer's breakfast was the best we had on our trip to Switzerland!

Awesome B&B in Lucerne

Our stay with hosts Raymond and Jennifer was without question the highlight of our visit to Luzern.  They are a charming couple, who greeted us with a warm welcome and exhibited nonpareil hospitality throughout our stay.  The two rooms and common areas that comprise the B&B are part of their home, and this is reflected in the furnishings and decor that give Haus im Loechli its unique character and warmth.  The location is quiet and conveniently located just up the road from the train station with Luzern only a stop away.  There is also convenient bus service with two stops nearby, and our stay included a guest pass for free transit throughout our visit.  My husband and I stayed for three nights and became spoiled by the superb breakfasts served up each morning – the best throughout our three-week stay in Switzerland.  Traditional rosti, bacon and eggs or pancakes, assorted breads and jams, and the most delicious muesli we had during our trip.  Raymond graciously gave us their recipe and I’ve been making it at home ever since – a lasting reminder of our wonderful experience.  Thank you, Raymond and Jennifer!

The atmosphere of other times.

The Bed & Breakfast Haus im Loechli is wonderfully located for those traveling by train or by car who want to visit Lucerne without staying in the city's center.  The Haus im Loechli is a two hundred year old Swiss farm house which has been magnificently restored by its owners.  The second floor serves as the B&B.  It is full of beautifully preserved dark wood beams and flooring and is a perfect antidote to the sterile environment of a chain hotel or motel.  The breakfasts each morning are superb and the location of the B&B just up the street from the Littau train station make the B&B a perfect place to stay for those traveling by car or with a Swiss Rail Pass who want to do a lot of sightseeing in Lucerne but do not want to deal with the driving, parking, and traffic of the city's urban core.  There are two trains from Littau to the Lucerne main train station during commute hours and one an hour at all other times.  We simply looked at the return train schedule when we arrived at the Lucerne main station to time our return to Littau.  The Littau station is the last stop before Lucerne so it only takes seven or eight minutes to get to the heart of Lucerne.  The B&B has only two rooms so it is comfortable for from one to four guests.  At the top of the hill - about a ten to fifteen minute walk - is the village which has a grocery store and an excellent bakery, so you can purchase sandwiches, deli salads, and desserts and enjoy a cold dinner "at home" if you're trying to save your francs.  However, one of the very best restaurants in the region, Gasthaus Ochsen,  is also located just up the hill, so be sure to ask the B&B's gracious host to make a reservation for you, and plan to splurge at least one evening while you are staying in Littau.  The Bed & Breakfast is an architectural "landmark" kind of building, so if you are a very tall individual - the ceilings are relatively low - or a bull in a china closet, the B&B would not be a good match.  Please also be advised that there is no wheelchair access and there are some outdoor stairs from the street level to the second floor entrance, so individuals with disabilities or heavy suitcases may find access difficult. Parking is available directly in front of the B&B.

We were in the little BnB for two days and we were thrilled with a great ambience with lots of decorative details, a nice owner and a great breakfast.
