Calabash Mountain Villa

My wife and I just finished a great celebration of our 30th anniversary at the Calabash Mtn. Villa.  We could have not asked for more from the owners Julian and Saundra, and their personable staff, Daron and "Kouch".  They welcomed us with outstretched arms, helped plan our stay of what and when to see the best attractions (Soufriere has 75% of the island's), arranged our transportation to and from, and fed us yummy breakfasts and a couple of tasty dinners (upon request).  Yes, the Villa is a little off the beaten path.  But we found it to be located right in the middle of most of the local attractions.  Thanks Calabash Mtn. Villa for giving us a memory we will not forget.

Felt just like home!!! Straight off the grid and nice and quiet. The food was amazing and the rooms were super spacious and comfortable. I would recommend this as a working vacation for companies that may need to do some TEAM building!

Stayed at Calabash Mountain Villa with my family and a few friends. Definitely a beautiful and tranquil area surrounded by an abundance of greenery and flowers. The property is a huge and boasts several single and double occupancy rooms including a suite with a king size bed. Each room has it's own private balcony with marvelous views of Mount Gimmie and the Soufriere community. There is a large kitchen and dining/ lounging area with loads of entertainment. We were allowed to use the kitchen to prepare our daily meals, I must add that the kitchen is very well equipped. Saw several birds whilst relaxing in the balcony. Just one downside was that the pool was nonfunctional whilst we were staying there but it is overall a must go especially to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Fantastic views and the local birds were great. St Lucia Oriole and Mangrove Cuckoo right from our balcony (King / mountain view)! I was told St Lucia Parrots occasionally visit the property during mango season. Fun to see lots of diverse fruit trees on the property and surrounding area. Hiked around the neighborhood as we birded, and many of the locals were welcoming and interested in chatting. Hosts are also very friendly and happy to chat each day about our activities and help with planning if needed. They cooked a simple breakfast for us each morning, which included fruit from their trees, which was nice. There is an AC in the room, but it wasn't really needed as the property had a very nice breeze our entire trip (in Dec). 

The roads leading to the property are rough due to potholes, but we took it slow in our rental Crosstrek (AWD) and did fine. Google maps suggests driving the road leading north from the property, towards diamond falls and Soufriere, as a quick route, but this rough "road" is unpaved, and too steep and eroded in many sections to be passable in a car. We hiked this road a couple times, and had a great time birding all the way to the falls, where we visited Marie's buffet restaurant for great local food. Mosquitoes were only rarely encountered on the property or surrounding area.

Only downside was that the room and even the bed sheets were not very clean when we arrived. We're not too picky about hotel room cleanliness, and we were given clean sheets the next night, but roaches in the bathroom were bothersome. With some more attention to cleanliness, this place would be 5 stars. Overall, still a great spot to enjoy the local birds and get off the beaten path!

I enjoyed my trip to this hidden gem. Dr James and family cooked some delicious food. Was chilly at night in April! Good views including ranbows. Nice living area. Enjoyed interacting with the elderly couple who run the place. Comfortable rooms
