We have stayed at Jagabay Hotel many times in past years but have been able to stay for the past 4 years because of the pandemic and economic problems in Sri Lanka. We were absolutely delighted to be back once again. Staff work very hard and are so helpful. Accommodation is overlooking the wonderful golden beach and Indian Ocean and the food here (rice and curry especially) is really excellent. The owner Jagath is extremely welcoming and helpful and will advise on all aspects of travel both local and around the island. Really looking forward to our next visit!

Great accommodation right on the beach front and very helpful staff

This hotel is right on the beach & has a nice swimmingpool. Location was fab, quiet part of the beach, short walk into Weligama & a short tuktukride away from Mirissa. 

The buildings look shabby and not well maintained but room was nice enough. It was a small chalet overlooking the pool with your own terrace. Fridge in the room including drinks for a fair price and complimentary bottle of water. Electric kettle but lack of electronic sockets, I ended up charging my phone on the terrace. Bathroom needs an update/some paint but nice shower including hot water. AC/fan/working wifi and mosquito nets. If they invest in it this place could look really good.

Hotel was fairly quiet when I was there. I heard they do lots of package deals with Germans/Russians, menu was listed in German too (only time I've seen this in Sri Lanka). Food was average but OK. Lots of dogs and cats on the grounds they sleep everywhere but none of them bothered me, they must get food from the hotel.

Laundry was very expensive (5k) but the room was really cheap, was referred by locals who negotiated for me. In the room next to me were drivers who got an even better price!

There was a great spot for drinks/rotis on the beach a few mins away in direction of Weligama. Few surfschools just on the beach.

Would stay again, good value for money but would check how busy it is. Staff was friendly, only reception did not speak English very well. Tuktuk drivers outside ask way too much, start with 50% of what they ask...

Excellent location

We stayed here for two night and the hotel itself was very quiet, I think we saw maybe two other guests during out stay. The hotel was nice and our room had a great view, breakfast was ok it could have been better but it was fine. Its a little bit away from the main area of Mirissa but it wasnt too far a quick tuk tuk drive in.

Fantastic View

Hotel has great beach, the most beautiful part, very calm and wide.
Hotel its self need restauration, simsed like not finished.
Rooms are big, as well bathroom.
Breakfast is for Sri Lankand standards great.
Noticw:
Tuk tuk drivers in the front of resort are the worst I have ever seen. We reserved driver for airport and they suroinded him, try to attack him, because he is on "his land". They even attacked us, 2 of girls, dudnt allowed us to go to airport, they threathened to us.We were very upset and disapointed.
Please avoid them!

Worst experience with tuk tuk drivers

The hotel has a great location right on the beach and the swimming pool is also lovely.  The room we had looked out over the beach and had an incredible view of the sea.

The hotel itself was not so great.  We had no hot water.  There was also only one plug to charge our phones and it was right on the other side of the room that could take a 2 point phone charger.  I like to have my phone charging next to my bed that I can still read, whenever I want to.
There was also no complimentary shampoo or shower gel in the room.  Normally all the hotels have this in the room and you do not have to take your own with you.

Breakfast was okay, but there is not a big variety.

Our interaction with the staff were limited as we just stayed there for 1 night.

Great Location

The hotel is not amazing. The staff is friendly. There are a lot of dogs around here, but for us that was not a problem. The food was good. The hotel is right on the beach. There were not a lot of people on the beach so you can always find a free spot at the shadow. We didn`t like the beds because they were very uncomfortable and also the pillows.

we stayed with rooman and his lavely family for four nights we were made so welcome  room booked us a trip whale watching breakfast was good .would stay again  friendly plasce in mirisa hotell thnk you mr jagah

good hotell good seviss  friendly place

Stayed one night, there was a storm, room on top floor leaked through the roof and woke us up about 1am. Called the night staff and they came after about 20 mins, moved us down the corridor. New room flooded from the balcony 3/4th of the way up the room in the next 45 minutes. Called the night staff again, had to wait 30 minutes and call a second time before we were moved to a new room. Terrible nights sleep.

Pool is nice, but in a bit of a dingy courtyard. Hotel opens out onto beautiful beach, this is the only good thing. Breakfast had very little choice, the food was sad and bland and the kitchen did not look hygienic. Dinner was disappointing. Staff generally not that helpful or friendly.

2 different rooms flooded in storm

When we arrived to this huge hotel we had a warm welcome but after that it just went wrong.

- The floor where our rooms were, sounded like a factory, the air-condition machines are placed on the aisle next to the front door of your room. So there is a constant noise because everyone around you is using them. When we mentioned it they told us that we can go to another room, of course it didn't happen but I'm sure that all the rooms have the same problem.

-The wifi wasn't working, they even placed a router in my room but still sign of connection.

-There was no water pressure on the second floor so it was impossible to get a proper shower.

-There was no electricity all day long.

-We asked them to wash our clothes, it took 2 whole days to get them back and they destroyed more than three t-shirts and shorts.
After this we got the bill of 5500 LKR and of course we didn't want to pay because of the circumstances I've just mentioned, the lady raised her voice and started to throw the clothes and her pen and notebook on the floor.
Very unprofessional.

-The 'open' kitchen is disgusting, full of flies and not hygienic.

I wouldn't recommend this place at all. You're just a number for them, not a guest.

Such a disappointment... 

We have stayed at Jagabay on very many occasions so I am updating my comments to let people know that there is now a very large new swimming pool at this hotel so people who do not wish to swim in the sea (especially with small children) now have a superb pool. We always enjoy staying here as it is right on the beach and views over the sand and out to sea are wonderful - especially as the sun sets. The menu is good and hoe made rice and curry excellent. Well done Kumara the cook and all the waiters who are excellent. Rooms are basic but clean and have all essential needs. we look forward to our next visit.
