About the best thing this place has going for it is the early check in and proximity to the train station. As I was arriving on the night train I decided to overlook the negative reviews and stay as it was only for a night.

My welcome on arrival was warm, as described by other guests, and I was referred to some posters regarding loc attractions. I wanted to map these on my phone, and so requested the WiFi to be turned on. This in itself seemed like a bit of a big deal off the bat... I went to my room, where the signal was basically nonexistent, contrary to what I was told, and got ready to go out for the day. The guesthouse itself is pretty clean and well kept. The double room at 2700 rupees was pretty reasonable, but the proximity to a local temple meant you could hear rather unnerving sounding chants and songs through a poor quality loudspeaker all day, which soon lost its charm.

I enquired about where I could hire a bicycle from, and was given some vague directions to walk up the road and ask at other hotels. After a long trek I eventually found one from a tuk tuk driver and had a great day. I came back, requested the WiFi be turned on again so I could do the usual and get in touch with home, and once again this seemed like a much mightier ask than it should have been...

After a while I went out to get some food, at around 8.30, and was given a look of disgust when I said I would return within an hour. When I returned 45 minutes later I'd realised my key was locked in the room so had to ask it could be opened, only to receive the look of disgust again. I was then very firmly told I must switch off all lights when I went to bed as I decided to stay in the upstairs lounge for a while whilst I read. I was told the WiFi would have to be switched off as she was turning all the lights off downstairs and it all connected through the same thing (this was an outright lie, the switch for the WiFi is very visible in the reception and independent of any others, I've also seen her "customer care" responses to other negative feedback in the past where she directly states this is to save on cost).

Though I was not advised of a 9am check out, I received a very stern knock at 9.45 advising me I had stayed over and that it was 10am already. It was then made clear it was a massive inconvenience for my bags to stay at the hotel so I could enjoy the rest of my day before my 7pm train. Eventually it was agreed after a little fuss that my bags could remain there until 4pm, as at that point she was going to lock the gate so she could go to the local carnival (the exact sort of thing perhaps a tourist would want to go to if say, their lodging was kind enough to store their bag and have someone else at reception?). 

So I collected my bag at 4pm to go wait at the station for a few hours. As I put it on outside the locked gate two other guests were trying to get out, only to find themselves locked inside! I think that just about sums it up.

In all my travels, I have never met such a disingenuous and self-serving host, particularly in Sri Lanka where all have been so kind and lovely. This place is missold as a private beach getaway with everything you need. I couldn't care less if I end up in a bog standard room next to a terrible beach, a bed is a bed, but at least make me feel welcome... I would not recommend that you stay here.

Not customer focused in the slightest

It is a clean and nice place to stay near by sea. Four rooms are available in first floor in the guest house with double beds and attached bathroom. Small kitchen and living area are available for gathering and having meal.

A cheap place to stay middle of the city

We came there, led by the actually good recommendations. But that was a mistake. I'm usually way too lazy to wrote one by myself but in this case I'll make an exception. The woman is absolutely money fixed and as long as she sees a chance to get some more everything is fine. But we were backpacking so she realized there's not much to do about this.  She locked the front door at 9pm (which means we were unable to leave the house anymore) and told us to go to sleep on our room because we were not longer allowed to stay in the living room anymore (it was 9:20 pm and we were two girls, sitting on the couch and reading our books. In silence...). So after all for the 1500 rupie we payed it was bearable, especially we were exhausted by the day. But i wouldn't do it again and if I would have known. Btw there was no wifi at all.

Well...

The room itself was fine, but the bathroom was dirty and smelled like a discharge. At 9 o'clock it was locked, so we couldn't get anything to eat or drink. The light went out just after 9 o'clock in the pantry, but it allows us to see the light in the room.

Rooms okay, bathroom stinking and dirty, closed at 9:00.

We booked this rest house by going through the reviews because there were quite good reviews. However, we realized that we have mislead by them after visiting this place. The lady who owns the rest house seems very friendly but she is one of the most cunning & pretending woman I have ever seen. She talked with us as she is helpful but silently she tried to mislead us. 
The rest house situated in a slum area, which is about 1km away from the city, and rooms chargers are one of the highest rate in that area. This was the first time I saw, asking for the full payment even before check-in. Their so-called English breakfast (bread & butter) cost Rs.400/- which even not worth for Rs.100/- .  Actually, there is nothing to say any positive comment on this rest house. The only thing remained with us when we are leaving was the complete disappointment. Never recommend this place to anyone.

Disappointing

I don't usually write bad reviews about places but this is something that i need to contribute to other travelers worldwide.Actually i was mislead by the previous comments/reviews from other travelers and i booked this place. Actually the women was really nice and greet us in a very nice way and she wanted to pay all the money for our stay. That's fine because that's how some rest houses works in that area. But later on we got to know from locals that she have charged us a very huge price with compared to the locals who have payed a very low price and thats really racist. After stumbling through the trinco town there were lots of rest houses with AC for that price. We were really disappointed by that act and the rooms were really small. Bathrooms were really smelly and unclean which was really bad. Even after turning on the fan the whole room was filled with bad odor. We complained this to the lady and she smiled and said that this was something that she can't help us. 

Hope other people will also reveal the truth about this ugly and badly managed rest house so that the other people won't be mislead.

Dirty and unclean rooms with very good smiles

The lady who greeted us is very smiling and kind. The hotel looks clean at first glance, but our room was full of ants even on the bed (okay we're in a country with different standards of cleaning, but ants really everywhere on the walls and over the bed) the bathroom is very clean. (I found hair on the soap and urine stains in the bathroom) The room Apartment The furniture that didn't matter much was composed of the essentials.
