This was a superb airbnb find. The history of the Officers Mess is fascinating, and has been transformed into an incredible space (light, modern, designer, with landscaped exterior dropping down to a river full of wildlife). Andrew is a stellar host, nothing was too much trouble - he not only made us feel welcome, but like a member of family :) the food was delicious, and we left with a greater understanding of Sri Lanka, wishing that we could stay a while longer... Incredible space to stay

We stayed at the officers mess for two nights and we loved the whole atmosphere of the place. Stylish and relaxed and you can imagine yourself back in the 40s/50s having drinks on the terrace and watching the sun setting across the lawn. It's a lovely quiet location, cows wonder along the water's edge at night as the bats fly overhead and the fireflies twinkle. Beautiful. As is the food. Andrew and te
am cooked two wonderful evening meals. Just make sure you specify what time you want to eat as the first night no one asked us and we didn't check and ended up not eating until nine and we were starving. It really is quite laid-back! The dogs are exceptionally friendly and lovely to be around but do ask that they be kept in at night. The first night we got very little sleep as they were howling on and off all night. 5 dogs howling outside your window and door is not something you sleep through easily. I think someone must have overheard us complaining and the second night it was very peaceful!

Wonderful

This place is just perfect. When we arrived the Guest house staff was warmly welcoming us and the 5 dogs were super friendly. The house is next to the river and you can do kayaking on the river or just relax at the meadow between house and river. As it's around 15 minutes outside of the City the air is clean.
The place itself is very clean and well organised. If you need any transportation they organise it for you or if possible even take you. The Chef prepares awesome (and I mean really AWESOME) food for lunch an dinner. If you have any wishes like vegetarian of what ever they prepaid it. 
If you are not sure if you want to book of if you think it's too expansive or far outside of the City. Just do yourself a favour and book 2 nights. If you arrive you will extend anyway :-)

Welcome come to paradise

This is an old military building and very cool.  Its secluded on a rivier and a great place to relax.  Theres a huge lawn perfect for yoga or parties, I would definitely come back with a big group of people to have some fun and ot bother the neighbors. The chicken pot pie was amazing.

stunning views

We stayed here to be near the cricket stadium and it turned out to be a great choice. Andrew is so welcoming and even sorted out a tuk tuk to meet us at the station en route. The whole team there were so helpful and friendly and the food was amazing. The accommodation is very spacious and the setting beautiful and relaxing. We made friends with some other guests and spent several very enjoyable evenings on the veranda with a G&T! Thank you for a great stay.

Wonderful Stay

Well there's two positive points the Wi-Fi works very well the frame the view is obvious negative point the average meal full insect in the room mosquito, spider, braid, cupboard, lizard, ant despite the mosquito passes by the bedside or under the sheets so personally I spent a white night and I saw an ant nest on the fridge so I had a bad night on August 6th 2018 otherwise the room is nice but I find that deep housekeeping will be fine

The White Night

A B&B, away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. Andrew, the owner, welcomed us into this house with simplicity. No chichi, simple but clean room, food etc. We ended the evening around a beer with Andrew exchanging our travel experiences.

Simple but perfect

The house is large and cozy, we stayed in the White Room, simple but recently renovated and clean. The thing that struck us most was the kindness of the owners, a young couple with two beautiful babies. Kindly welcoming people available for every need. We shared with them two beautiful dinners talking about everything (she is English, he is English mother and father is Sinhalese) with the other guests of the house, the food was very good and abundant, the menu different every night. It was really like staying in a family house, probably the best guest house on the island for our experience so far. A little far from the center but this can be an advantage because we fly away from the traffic and confusion to immerse ourselves in the silent shores of this lovely lake house.

How to feel at home

A small dilemma at the time of noting this guesthouse is both family (Anglo-Sri Lankaise who holds it is adorable and welcoming and the house is pretty. These positive points being mitigated by a few problems: Room at first correct, but: - infectious smell of mustard every time you use the shower - located right next to the kitchen, so noisy in the evening when the cook stops and talks long on the phone early in the morning (6h) when she prepares breakfast. - as charming as the children, they are noisy, which does not promote relaxation... It is a shame but maybe we did not fall on the right room.

Maybe we should do something...

The guesthouse is particularly charming, both by the site (we put a photo, it's easier than the words) and by the reception; we spent only one night, but it was New Year's Day...like at home... a relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by some family friends and a cheerful group of young Danish passers-by too; thank you!
