Ayurvedic and diving hotel. Simple middle class with very good Ayurvedic treatments. Beach okay, but not the mega hammer. Rooms okay, clean, friendly staff. Very, very bad dinner in Ayurveda

Good Ayurvedic treatments, bad dinners

We were a couple for 2 weeks in Ypsylon. First we had the diving school selected to make sure that the hotel was connected. A cute little apartment complex with 39 rooms under German management. Most of the guests are doing Ayurveda in full board and you can see them mostly only at yoga, mostly they are in treatments (massage, acupuncture, etc.). Some guests were staying at breakfast or as we were in half boarding. We were not allowed to have any small noodles or rice, we were allowed to have dinner as a service. This is very much in the sense of my partner, including German, Dutch, Dutch, etc., but we can also have a few fresh water and a few fresh water snacks. We usually had a large lunch with Neil Gauguin every day, and we never had to go back to the hotel again. Absolutely comfortable and great accommodation

I have just returned from my two week stay at Ypsylon Resort, Sri Lanka and cannot express how grateful I am for the amazing Panchakarma treatment. 

I arrived exhausted from the UK after a couple of tough years and left feeling a whole new person - happier and energised and a body that felt alive and free of stress and pain.

From the airport transfer with Pia to the last day I was looked after by every single member of the welcoming and charming team.

To wake up and see the beautiful gardens lovingly attended by Helen and smell the frangipani flowers was so restorative and the fabulous and healthy Ayurvedic meals were varied and creative and even though I enjoyed and ate well I still left 4kg lighter but that was secondary to the lightness I felt in my whole body and mind.

I put this down to the wonderful and professional Panchakarma treatment programme diagnosed and overseen by Dr T and Doctor Erandi and executed by a team of fabulous Ayurveda therapists who all excelled in their level of expertise.

It was helpful to also have a lady doctor and Dr Erandi assisted me with a specific acupuncture programme during my stay.

The doctors listened to all of my concerns ailments and desires for the program and at the end I left feeling might like my old self and so much happier!

Everything was kept immaculately clean even though we were in the tropics with wildlife around and Selendi, the lovely waitress, kept the restaurant clean and swept as well as running around waiting on everyone 

The hotel is comfortable and kept impeccably clean and the fact that everything is on one site makes it so easy to enjoy the daily treatments as well as being able to enjoy the beach, the views of the islands and the sound of the waves. 

During my stay I had to visit the eye hospital and Joanna could not have been more accommodating arranging for transport and finding the best hospital in Columbo which offered a very reassuring international level service 

With my many visits to spas and therapists over the years I have found the best lady in the whole world. 

Chandrika was such a sensitive soul and as a supervisor with over 15 years experience she expertly kneaded and restored my body and intuitively knew where I needed the most attention. 

Her manner was so kind and caring and I can honestly say, without exaggeration, that she is the best therapist I have ever had and based on her skill and expertise I will be returning to Ypsylon next year as well as for everything else which makes this such a lovely place to heal. She oversees the standard of all therapist and which is consistently high, without exception

Huge thank you to Johanna managing the day to day running of everything. She expertly kept a constant eye on each guest with a warm, gentle yet professional manner and oversaw all  staff to ensure the operation ran smoothly

It is great to see that this Ayurvedic treatment centre is recovering after the pandemic and ongoing current global conditions and to hear that the management looked after all the staff during the lockdown is evidence of the ethos of the place and shows how important warmth and care for everyone is for the operation 

This is a place you must visit, not only to restore your own soul and peace of mind, but also to help a wonderful venture helping local people, many of whom have been working at Ypsylon over 20 years when I understand the Ypsylon Diving and Ayurvedic Centre was first created.

I am already looking forward to a return visit next year to relax, restore, listen to the sound of the waves, practice yoga, eat good food and receive the nourishing massages and treatments once again in order to reset and recover from my normal fast pace of life and workload 

I cannot recommend it high enough if you want results!

Wonderful place to heal body and soul run by beautiful people

I lost my Nephew due to poor safety regulation . There was no staff at the pool. No camera monitoring the premise. Even though I lost my Nephew, they charged me for the full two day stay. However, We only use the hotel for two hours.  Incident happen in March 2016

Swimming pool is not safety

I spent 18 days at Ypsylon in Jan 2022 for an Ayurvedic treatment package and cannot recommend it for that or any other purpose.  While the hotel does have a direct beachfront location, the sea itself is so polluted that, although a dedicated water baby all my life, I was able to swim in it no more than 3-4 times in almost three weeks.  It's restaurant offers both local and tasty, regular European/predominantly German dishes at reasonable prices.  For those who've looking for ayurveda treatments, I would recommend to look elsewhere.  Although Ypsylon's senior doctor is an excellent diagnostician, the treatments themselves are mediocre at best.  For example, no serious ayurveda practitioner would prescribe 15-minute shirodhara sessions for insomnia or headaches (such short sessions can help with scalp problems and possibly to enhance hair growth, but they have NO other use in ayurveda), which is regularly done at Ypsylon.  Worse yet, I personally observed the doctors there falsify medical records in order to conceal either a worsening medical condition or absence of progress.  In my case, for instance, although I had arrived with a slightly elevated blood pressure of 135/90, as my blood pressure suddenly began to plummet  while I was under their care, and to conceal that fact, they simply erased/whitened out the first reading, making it appear as though my blood pressure had been on the low side from the start.  A similar alteration was made to my weight records, too.  I don't know how likely it is that I was the only customer whose medical charts were treated in this way.  Two more points: I found the food for ayurveda clients sub par, especially in comparison with the food in two other Ayurveda resorts I've been to in Sri Lanka.  If you're a diabetic or have insulin resistance, the high amount of carbohydrates in the meals offered at Ypsylon will be directly counterproductive for you.  My last point has to do with the rooms at this hotel: while the Ayurveda centre itself is constructed of natural materials throughout, the hotel rooms are not.  I have a chronic health condition with many chemical and environmental sensitivities and was disappointed to discover that instead of wood or ceramic tile flooring, Ypsylon rooms all have laminate that only resembles wood in its appearance.  I have not seen the use of such potentially toxic man-made materials at any other Ayurveda hotel I've been to (in India, Bali and Sri Lanka).  

Disappointing

Actually, we just wanted to spend the quarantine night here. Unfortunately, the regulations changed and we only had to stay in the hotel for 10 days. We had only one young woman with two children in the facility. We were really pampered by all the employees. Extra came for us the Ayurvedic doctor and a masseur. We could also ask for something for dinner. The rooms were cleaned daily and the beds were fresh every day. The towels were also changed daily. The garden facility and the large pool were being maintained top-notch. We had an Ayurvedic bungalow. Only the fittings in the bathroom could be better maintained.

We felt good.

But now the problem is solved, and to walk around the beaches you don't need to make a salad, bypassing an obstacle. There is a spa and a diving school. There is a spa-saloon. There are two-story bars. The rooms are very decent in quality, and there is a lot of fun around here.

I really like this place.

We were in this small, manageable hotel in January 2020. We are back! The staff is very friendly and service-oriented. The rooms are simple, but fully furnished, very clean! The location on the beach is perfect. Everything is very clean and well maintained. The food (e.g. curry, fish) in the home restaurant is very good. German dishes such as cranberry, potato salad, etc. are also offered. The location of the hotel is great, the hotel offers its own transportation service. Also the transfer (airport/hotel) is organized if requested by the hotel. Contact via e-mail is reliable and fast! Clear notice!

We walked up the beach to this resort a couple of times and despite a couple of reviews to the contrary, had lovely food and good service. The beach was lovely too with great swimming. Lovely place to stay for a leisurely lunch.

Lovely lunches and swim

Excellent accomodation at a reasonable price, sparklingly clean, with daily services. Excellent food and drink. The location is so very special. I have visited this hotel and the service and the facilities have never failed to meet my high expectations. Thank you.
