The Kala Samui

I booked initially 3 days to check it out and finally extend 9 more days... First of all due to my work, I am use to International high end hotel (four season, Kempinski...) and when I travel by my own I want a more intimate atmosphere, eventually I usually book guest house / apartment / airbnb and small family run hotel... This is exactly what I found at the kala. Now I read a lot of good reviews but also few less good before booking so here is my feed back: - location great between chaweng and Lamai, the 2 largest urban areas of Koh Samui. A scooter or car is needed nevertheless . perfect if you want fresh air and silence and home made bungalow not ikea style and or synthetic materials Avoid if you want to be in the middle of the action and party ... that is not the place for you or if you are use like me to 5 stars resort and expect to get the same experience, you must see your bungalow like an amazing airbnb instead - beaches: 1 is reachable by feet about 5 min (coral covel beach) and for silver beach 15 min but I do not recommend to walk to that one since there is no real walkway . lamai beach is also great but less confidential. After touring around the island I realized that those 3 beaches are probably one of the very best . - bungalows: I paid via Agoda 88 euros per nights and the ratio value / price is unbeatable, I am more than satisfy and I do recommend this resort for the right traveller (read bellow ;-) I had a full privacy, a panoramic view, I enjoyed the natural materials (local wood, stones, giant home made bathtub AND I did not pay attention to small details and imperfections as you can't expect at that price mark to get the sterile environment / perfect service / amenities / breakfast ... of the four seasons for example . WIFI: I measured 28Mbps download and 16Mbps upload I could stream movies and make video call, I saw many wifi repeater nevertheless speed with vary depending on location in the resort and demand on the network .You can most probably work in this resort for those who need a strong wifi I will recommend to those who search the premium 5 stars experience to stop complaining here and pay the price that match the service offered by the usual international 5 stars resort chains .... not my cup of tea, maybe yours ;-) - general feeling: it is a quiet place and resort, north exposition under a hot climate combine with exposition facing the general wind allowed us to sleep with windows opened with only fan and AC switched off and wave back ground noise ....I slept really good. Finally if you are looking for a retreat not far aways from everything you might need .... Do not hesitate . Ps: I did not use the pool but it is very nice with greeneries all around and birds inviting you to take a nap.... sun hit the morning only so for those who are really obsessed with getting tanned ... an other full exposed terrace is available further down. An happy traveller / an objective review to help ;-)
