We had a great time here as we did not have to go far for food we took a beautiful walk in observatory my old home town the room was small but very cosy the staff so friendly I wish I could've stayed longer but till next time 

Tarquin Williams Stay

We booked the family room as it had 2 beds with shower for my daughter and I. On arrival after 4.30 pm, we were shown the room but told if we wanted it the manager would have to make room up, were given an airless alternative with bath, 1 bed, the shower did not work. On unpacking food into fridge and cupboard, both were absolutely filthy. quests obliged to clean up and put crockery etc away. rule did not apply to manager, her dishes were left in dirty sink overnight or all day. kitchen table was left covered  with clutter for entire 3 day stay. Cutlery and crockery supposedly clean,
 was not!! no clean dish cloths and nothing to clean counter with, was loath to use kitchen facilities. Thank goodness for the cleaning lady Evelin, she was a star but only worked part time.  Although only one other room was occupied, the manager seemed to sleep in alternate rooms each night so we were exposed to unmade beds and untidy rooms each time we used the upstairs kitchen. The verandah is a tip. who knows when last swept and cleaned, cushions filthy. To add insult to injurie, i left 3 items of clothing behind, everyday for 5 days I called their land line, leaving numerous messages, not one returned. 5th evening I arrived at premises and lo and behold the manager was wearing my clothes!!!! demanded their return, absolutely disgusted with the whole experience. One would think with the current situation, hospitality establishments would be doing their best and this so called manager would appreciate her job. Clearly I am mistaken in this!!! admittedly I am not a young back packer, but do expect a minimum of hygiene and integrity. Never again African Heart, not a good reflection on things African, jolly poor show and thats being kind.

Never Again

The observatory area is a cozy area. Lots of good bars that do vegan. The area is good for shopping, eating, having drinks and just chilln’. It is still part of a huge city. The African heart backpackers is in the middle of this big concrete jungle. As soon as you walk thru the front gate it’s as calm as it gets. It offers you everything you need and more. A big kitchen, showers, a big living room where you exchange your travel journey and maybe find out more huffing spots from the other guests and you’ll have you sleeping quarters. I stayed in a private room with a shower en toilet. The prices are more then fair and the rooms big enough. It’s a really nice house with a very relaxed and homelike atmosphere. The patio in front is covered with trees and greens. There is a big sitting area where you can enjoy you morning coffee or evening drink. I really enjoyed my stay. Thank you guys for your awesome hospitality.... will definitely be back one day.  

Peaceful retreat in the midst of a concrete jungle.

Excellent service and staff were really friendly, hostel felt more like a 2nd home and was very welcoming, they made our stay that much better and were very helpful organising trips and showing us around. 5 stars. Extra thanks to Ria and Gert, already planning next trip back. Craig.

Brilliant Hostel

· Very disorganised. Felt uncomfortable, felt like we were staying in a student commune and were in their space. The kitchen was not very clean including the crockery and utensils which I had to re-clean before using.On the first morning I went to make breakfast and the bread was mouldy I did not even want to try the cereal, we never had breakfast there again. Our room had no fan and was extremely hot, we had to sleep with our windows open and got attacked by mosquitoes. Property advertises BBQ/Braai facilitates which I don’t think had used for years before we had a braai, it started falling apart as we were using it. The communal toilets and showers were dirty. Secure parking is advertised but is quite a distance away from the property and not safe as we had an in counter with two undesirables, if we had known this we would not have booked here. When we wanted to check out there was also no one at reception. It’s hard to distinguish between who works there and who’s actually a guest which also makes it easy for people to come and go. I understand this is a backpackers and not luxury accommodation, but for the money that was paid I did expect slightly more cleanliness and professionalism. I would not recommend or revisit

Extremely disappointed

Value bumps up every Category by 1 point. It really makes a difference. It was really a great find in a crisis. Location also makes it really convenient really close to both M5 and N2 getting anywhere in Capetown is a breeze. Staff=🌟👍Really enjoyed my stay.BlessingsJohn Smith

very nice place to stay in Cape Town! Nice things to do in OBS!
There are a lot new nice places to have somting to drink and to eat.
The people of the backpackers are very helpfull, they know a lot of all the things you could do in Cape Town

Friendly en nice plac

The hostel was very stylish and cozy, but our room smelled a little muffed here and there, it was dirt and mould, and in the city centre, on the waterfront or on the beach, you always depend on public transport or a taxi, but it was a great stay for a few nights.

You get what you pay for. We spent a night there and it was okay. The house got a little old. The staff was friendly.

For the price. Okay.

We were the sixth girl group in Cape Town, so you have to say that the two of us lived there for a while and we knew each other. We had a room together, which was very nice, but also very small/close and now that's how it is with shower in the room and no proper ventilation we had after a short time even more mold in the room than when we arrived, the owner takes care of the problem.... The mold was overstained with color :) For the staff, actually nice and helpful but also constantly drunk, even making a party, especially in the backpackers and constantly bad mood, on the bubbles and at the best bookstores... I'm not going to give the backpackers any more, much better.
