This is a very special place, just off the main highway, that I would recommend to any traveller. Mine hosts, Joan and Roy, made me feel so welcome that I felt part of their extended family. From joining Joan to feed the resident ducks and chooks, to being a "sounding board" to Roy on their current accommodation upgrades, you were never going to be left out. 

It felt special to sit around and join in the conversation while meals were being prepared. 

I was able to watch as my breakfast was being made while looking out over the property listening to all of the morning chorus of birds. It brought back so many memories of my earlier time in a county setting. My breakfast was a hearty meal of local produce (great yellow eggs from the resident "girls") that kept me sated well into the day.

It was just magic to go to sleep with the background of night noises from the local habitat and then to wake up with much the same chorus. 

My room was excellent and included a spa bath & shower as well as air con and ceiling fan. 

I will return to this "home away from home", but will hopefully be able to bring my wife so that she can sample the same great country hospitality. Thanks so much Joan and Roy. You made my stay so engaging.

While the ratings have sought input on a "hotel" basis, this is a B&B.

A Home Away From Home

There's no fanfare with large billboards or flashing signs but don't be mislead. One could easily miss the entrance (as we did) but Churingas Bed and Breakfast, hidden in the hinterland of Queensland's Sunshine Coast is a heavenly place to stay. It's nestled in the forest, with a creek running through the property and bird life galore. Hosts, Joan and Roy, immediately make you feel that you're part of the family. After settling into our spacious room with views of trees and sounds of birds, we were invited to share afternoon tea on the huge covered deck with our hosts. What a hoot! Joan and Roy had us laughing our socks off as we all shared stories of our adventures and the people one meets along the way. Breakfast was stunning and plentiful, tailored to ones needs and sourced from the property itself or nearby markets. It was a shame we only had one night there, so we're already planning a longer stay. Good food, good company and lots of laughter - what more could one want?

A Hidden Gem

I happened recently to come across one of the best B&Bs it is possible to imagine at Churingas - just 25 k south of Gympie on the eastern side of the Bruce Highway - exit 253. Reasonably new but certainly well-established sitting in the middle of some five acres of land, terms such as comfortable, luxurious, tranquil, warmly welcoming may be some of the words used to describe it - owned and managed by two hosts, Roy and Joan for whom nothing is too much trouble. 
With the house's three large well equipped bedrooms and wonderful veranda overlooking a creek in which (if you're lucky) a platypus may be seen - not to mention the array of other wild-life to be found around and abouts - some 100+ different birds have been identified - ranging from shags to kookaburras - ever stroked one of the latter - you may just manage it at Churingas!
With the possibility of walking around the property, or lazing on the wide veranda one can be as lazy or as energetic, as private or as gregarious as you may wish.
The breakfast really does set one off well for the day - and I did accept the offer of a dinner in the evening - mouth-watering and splendidly prepared and presented.
One night is perhaps insufficient to enjoy the B&B and its surrounds - you'd better go for two or three - particularly is you wish to explore some of the wonderful neighbouring villages such as Pomona!

What comfort

Superb setting, great places to visit nearby, wonderful food, huge rooms and a veranda to die for, and great care from our host and hostess!  Stay for more than a night so that you can take advantage of the setting and the nearby beauty spots.

Heaven at Churingas

Churingas is a great place to relax, check out the bird life from the balcony or just kick back and read a book.  There are 3 large bedrooms, one has two queen beds and a single and there's still heaps of room.  The balcony, as pictured, is huge so if it's wet there's still plenty of room to keep yourself amused.
The biggest plus is Joan and Roy, the hosts, they are both full of enthusiasm and great fun to spend time with.  Joan loves nothing more than getting in the kitchen and cooking up a storm for her guests.
I have stayed here with my 92 year old mother, who was very pampered, and loved it.  I also spent time with 10  friends for a 50th wedding celebration and everyone had a wonderful time.
Will definitely be back.
