Grand hotel in classic style.
We especially enjoyed the very elaborate breakfast. The location of the hotel is very central. Walking distance of the most tourist attractions .
Close to Central Station.
Next to Cultural Centre.

Great breakfast 

Time stands still since the 50s I think but the room was simple and had all I needed. Very high ceiling and the single room had actually two rooms (sitting area with a desk and another room was a bedroom). Plus the little landing and a pretty good size bathroom. All  great for what I needed. Just far too noisy with the sound of traffic (trams braking and accelerating just by the window).

We arrived on Sunday from the bus station, which is 5 minutes from the hotel, just get out on the street and you'll see an Orthodox church and right across the street you'll have the hotel.As you see the front is spectacular and lavish, especially the facade.When everything changes, the reception is grim without even light.The lady mayor who waited for us was very rude, I don't speak a word of English, except when paying for what we had to pay on paper and fast.The lady was watching the TV at a high volume and right across the street you have the hotel.As you can see, the front is spectacular and sober, especially the facade.When you enter the hotel everything changes, the reception is grim without even light.The lady mayor who waited for us was very rude, I don't speak a word of English, except when paying for what we had to pay on paper and fast.The lady was watching the TV at a high volume and she told us to stop and that's why we had to stop and that's why we were the worst room in the hotel.

Disappointing and horrible, of nightmares, of horror, of the worst hotels.

This is my second review of the hotel, im May 2014. I was here in 2010 already, so let's see what's different 7 years later:

This time, I stayed four nights in the Polonia Palace while attending a conference in Lodz. The hotel is very well located: 5 minutes from the train station, with bus 88A a half-hour ride from/to the airport (2.80 Zloty), and only a 10 minute walk from the famous Piotrkowska street with all the nightlife. Also, there's a tram stop just in front of the hotel, and many bus stops are very nearby.

I paid 78.40 Zloty = £15.77 per night including breakfast. 7 years ago, I paid much more (26£), despite the fact that the Pound is now at an all-time low. But whereas the breakfast buffet was really good 7 years ago, it's now not so good anymore. More like in a good hostel.

The rooms are still as they were: very simple, with a bed, a wardrobe, a desk and two chairs, and a small tv. The rooms have an en-suite shower and toilet, very clean. Also very spacious. That's really all one needs, I think. WIFI used to have a decent speed 7 years ago and is now very slow. I used my free roming which ws much quicker.

The service is still very friendly indeed.

The hotel has a very old lift, all brass, from the 1920s, I would estimate - still operated by a lift man. Very interesting.

So all in all: Still fine for the price, especially because of the excellent location and transport links. But I see that the "Polonia Palast" used to be a three-star hotel 7 years ago, and it's got only two now (see their business card). Must be the breakfast - which you can easily get anywhere else nearby; I'll do that next time.

7 years later: still cheap and central - but breakfast now less good

I'm aware of what I pay and what I'm going to get at every hotel I go to. I don't care if I don't have a TV, if I have a TV, if I have a breakfast in the room or if I have a stand-up breakfast, like we did in Quebec. I don't care if you don't get a room, let the room be from the year 34 BC with its decoration of the same year, but if I make a reservation, I want a minimum. The plug was on the floor, the towel was rotated, the cables pulled down on the floor, and the refrigerator was attached to the radiator. The bed was like a child's bed and sleeping in the townhouse (with the colchemy).

The worst hotel I've ever stayed at.

The taxi company the hotel called for me on tel no: 6 500 500 is absolutely hopeless, been told to wait 6 minutes, half hour later still not materialized, I missed very important appointment, not happy! The receptionist also told me that they are not allowed to call any other taxi firms based in Lodz, unbelievable!

Would not recommend ordering taxi service through the reception

The hotel offers a full view from the outside with its period facade. The reception is correct with a minimum of English, it has a person to open the door and take you up to the chair. The rooms are clean but the decorative and old, generally the whole hotel is old and needs a young shot. The room does not have curtains for morning light. Despite the small negative points this address should not be neglected for the price
