Olivia and her sons are the best host! Wasipunku is always the cosy and quiet spot in Nasca, and the perfect basecamp to visit all the great attractions in Nasca, not to mention the food and the best tips from Olivia and her sons. Highly recomended!

Always a pleasure!

Wasipunko lodge is a 20 minute drive from Nazca, but you are transported into a different world where it's very peaceful and the air feels clean. (The peacocks were silent while I was there)

Really lovely traditionally decorated bedroom. Very good insect screens which allowed me to leave my window open all night to get a gentle flow of air into the room.
Bed - comfortable but very soft 
Pillow - fairly comfortable 
Shower - hot water
Large towel provided.

WiFi is available if you sit by the reception. But I think it's the very thick walls of the rooms that blocks the WiFi elsewhere.

My welcome was strange due to the bus of 20 Japanese ladies that arrived just before me... they came for dinner, and their guide offered to share his beer with me.

Dinner:
I watched the pachamanka ceremony but couldn't fully understand it as there was no-one to explain in English.
But when the earth was shovelled away, there were banana leaves and beneath those was food that had been cooked on and in between hot stones.
Ears of corn, beans, comote (sweet potato), potatoes, cheese wrapped in leaves, chicken and pork.
It smelled and tasted delicious - but was much in need of some salad or a sauce as it was all 'heavy food'.

Breakfast was very good.
Bread rolls, jam, fruit, coffee, hot water, avocado.
The dining room is eclectic on a good way.

Beautiful grounds and buildings.  Lots of things to see here...
2 beautiful peacocks sit comfortably with the 2 dogs.
There are many different displays of pots and bones... really varied and interesting.
There are also many places to sit and relax in the gardens.

I mentioned to Julietta (who served the food) that I needed to get to Nasca airport in the mornjng and that I wanted to see Chauchilla cemetery. She phoned her husband José to talk to me. 
José speaks excellent English and after speaking on the phone he came to collect Julietta at the end of her shift, and sat with me for about 20 minutes to discuss options for my sight-seeing, and where to store my luggage etc.
After finding out very useful information I changed my entire day.

As arranged, José arrived promptly at 8am to take me to the airport. 
As promised, he called around 11:30 to stay in touch and said he'd call again later before we met at 2/2:30 for my Aqueducts and Chauchilla cemetery tour.

José charged me 20 soles to get from the lodge into Nasca and 60 soles to collect me from the (fabulous) Nasca museum, give me a tour of the cemetery (fabulous too) and return me to Nasca.
It's just over 2 hours to get from Nasca to the cemetery, see the site, and return to Nasca.

I didn't visit the aqueducts as I was too tired after all my sightseeing in the intense 37 degree heat. I'd flown over them and would have liked to have seen them, but I still needed energy for my 7:30 planetarium visit! 

2 days in Nasca would be the perfect amount of time to see all it has to offer, especially if you're going to do the 4 hour dune buggy trip to Cahuachi pyramid site.
There's also a great selection of restaurants here too.

Remember... it's ALWAYS hot in Nasca... one of the driest places in earth!


Unique in every way!

We had such a lovely stay!  This eco-lodge features wonderful meals and quaint rooms.  We were warmly welcomed despite our late arrival with a beautiful locally-sourced meal.  The place has an artists touch with lovely birds everywhere, including doves and peacocks.  It is very clean, and the rooms are clean and quaint, although a little minimal from a western perspective - but that doesn't hurt at all. We may have been a little trouble - we stayed up drinking cervesa with a little self-help from the restaurant refrigerator.   No complaints from the management, who were happy we were having such a lovely time.  We just settled up at the end of the stay.

Such lovely property, people and birds! A gem!

Great quiet lodging near Nazca (well the peacocks were audible).  Try the traditional meal, cooked in the ground.  That is a special order, and takes all day to prepare.

Lodging at Nazca

We enjoyed the artistic vibe, lots of things to discover in the garden, we had a triple room in the back with a small little garden in front with sofa's, very nice to watch the stars outside at night, ordered a bottle of wine, nice! The breakfast was basic but really good, very nice cosy room to have breakfast, all fresh products from the farm. The hostess is an artist, she was very welcoming. Rooms were nicely decorated, comfy bed and warm shower.

Nice special location

The Wasipunko Ecolodge is a good place to spend a night or two if you are looking for something a little more rustic.  Although they now have electricity in the rooms so the old oil lamps are gone.  The food is also excellent.  However, the place is not as clean as it could be, the grounds are a little messy and it could be a little better maintained.  Just keep in mind that this is not a "5 star" lodging.

Remote and quiet place to stay.

The history and ethos of this place aligns with ours as a family and this is why we booked two nights to stay here. When we arrived, we noticed that the place had lost its soul a bit. You can see what was there before and how amazing it used to be. Now, it looks rather abandoned after a very long period of lack of operation during and following the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, as the owner, Olivia, is longer able to run the place, the lack of love and dedication to the place is very evident.

When we arrived, everything was ready for us: our rooms, the staff to cook our dinner, etc. The common areas were mostly quite dirty as not used for some time and with this place being in a desert, everything gets very dusty very quickly.
We were the only guests staying that night (and probably for the following few nights), so we really appreciated all the effort put into having our rooms ready and ensuring their was staff there to welcome us. We also requested dinner for the first night and it was absolutely delicious! All cooked fresh and super flavoursome. 

We visited Nazca, like most tourists, for the Nazca lines, and apart from this attraction, I would say it’s not worth the visit. Also, Nazca is very expensive compared to other locations in Peru, which apparently is due to the huge amount of mining in the area. As there was not much more to do in town as well as in our accommodation, we decided to leave Nazca a day early. The owners of Wasipunko Ecolodge were very understanding and accommodating, and we were grateful for this.

I’m sure there will be much improvement soon and I’d definitely recommend staying here rather than in any other hotel in Nazca – which I doubt will offer better value.
