Due to the political instability in the region, we ended up staying 6 nights in Hostal Bubamara. And what a lovely stay it was! The hosts are very friendly and attentive, ready to share their knowledge of Arequipa. The hostal is situated in the heart of the historical center, in an attractive ancient house. We would stay a few nights more, if we could.

A cozy and lovely home away from home

It's a lovely little hotel in the center of town, very friendly staff with very nice and comfortable rooms, breakfast served on the rooftop terrace is an idyllic place, and late afternoon around a beer alone, to get in, you have to ring the doorbell because we don't have the key to the door, if we go back, we'll be happy to come back.

Excellent comfort and good care, the rooms are cozy and clean.The style of the Hostel is rustic yet picturesque.The feeling is that you get more than you pay for.Very recommended for stays in transit.

I stayed 4 nights in private double bed room, and I really enjoyed my stay.
It’s right next to Monastery, about 7~8 minute walk to Armas plaza. Beds are real comfy and clean. Hot showers, yes of course. Wifi is on every floor, and it’s fast (At my stay, 2nd floor wifi was not working, they say their going to fix it) Everythings nice but it can be quite hard to sleep at night if you’re very sensitive to noise. There’s a road near by. Cars are quiet through the evening, but at night, they go wild! They just keep honking and people yelling... It settle down about 1 am... but I guess that’s what you expect anywhere in this city, nothing can do about it.

Close to the center, low price, nice room

The hostel is one of the best I've ever been to: 1) we arrived early at 7:00, and although check-in is only 12:00, we were allowed to go straight into the room 2) our room was upgraded from a standard bedroom to a Queensize free of charge, since someone who had booked the Queensize didn't come in 3) washing clothes was 15 soles/kg not much; we had a lot of laundry and paid for 50 soles at the end 4) the strawberry jam was really good and everyone got an egg early, sometimes as a mirror egg, sometimes as a stew 5) the situation couldn't be better

Hostel in the center of Arequipa, two steps from the main square. We were staying in a double room with private bathroom. Very spacious and very clean room. Staff always available if needed. Possibility to book excursions and laundry service.

We had a great stay in this hotel which is very well located. We were lucky to be overclassified, the room was super spacious, clean, with a lot of charm. The staff is very kind and hospitable. Possibility to book excursions (I recommend rafting!

The staff were very kind if they forgot a backpack at the airport and bothered to call the airport to locate it and ask for a taxi. The comfortable room. They have a terrace where breakfast is served. Very clean. I recommend it.

It's a very good option.

When I got to room 1, large, comfortable bed, impeccable bathroom, flat-screen cable TV, I was advised very well on the excursion to the Colca Canyon. Even for the excursion you have to pick me up at 3am and you wake me up with a cafe/tea in a tray so I can take it in the room.

Excellent price/quality ratio

Hostal Bubamara is located in the heart of old Arequipa which makes it perfect for walks around town. Access for cars in the area around Bubamara is limited which makes it feel even better - and getting a good night's sleep is an absolute given. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are certainly spacious enough. Historically, the property used to be a hostel for nuns visiting the neighbouring monastery so there's definitely a nice sense of tradition there. Accordingly, furnishings are no-frills but still very enjoyable - and the view from the top floor of the hostel around Arequipa is lovely. In terms of bang for the buck, the place is absolutely great.

The bedding and towels could use a bit of refreshing - and so could the shabby furnishings: their style is great, but most of them could do a with a bit of TLC. Also, some of the electrical plugs and sockets were not working - not a deal-breaker but something to look into.
