I liked it: we were traveling with three people and we were given a family room in the most modern, red-colored building. It is about 25 feet from the old main white building. The old building, only viewing the common areas, is very nice. The modern one is decorated with a nice, somewhat retro taste. Our room had a double bed and two individual beds, plus a pair of armchairs and a low table. It was very spacious and we were very comfortable despite loading a lot of luggage. The bathroom is of good size, although perhaps somewhat small in relation to the size of the room. Very good are the courtesy soaps and towels. A porch of the towel at the entrance that comes from a very luxurious area to leave the chalets available to you. The final dining area is a nice place.

Excellent hotel for couples and families.

We loved our two-night stay at Visnes.  Our room was delightful -- comfortable bed, little balcony overlooking the water (and main street and commercial buildings -- more on that later), huge bathroom.  Very friendly and professional owners and staff. Breakfast each morning was great.  We had one dinner there, which was expensive but excellent.  Definitely recommend staying there.  Be aware that the hotel is on the main street, which is busy, and, sadly, that the buildings across the street, while not high-rise, do block some of the view.  It's about a 10-minute walk along a path into town, which was a nice walk on a beautiful early fall evening for dinner.  We would definitely stay there again!

Wonderful stay at the historic Visnes Hotel

The hotel has so much character and charm and the staff is extremely helpful.   The rooms were large and we really liked free parking right at the hotel.   The breakfast was great with lots of choices and good coffee.   What was really surprising was the delicious dinner they served, the best meal we had in our 14 day visit to Norway, yet at a great price.   The only downside was the lack of an elevator, but this was not a problem for us.  We would not hesitate to strongly recommend this hotel and will stay here again if our travels take us to Stryn.

Very short stay. Delightful location, carefully maintained in every detail and above all very clean. Courtesy, kind, available staff. Smile is their common feature. Good and very well maintained kitchen. Family management which makes everything more welcoming. Highly recommended.

In a word, I'm very, very clean, very delicious, very sweet.

Nice and clean. 

Didn’t accomodate my two sons with a children’s menu and had to bring our own cup of noodle soup to dinner. We had a family room in the new barn and no window to look out (the view has been built out my industry and logistics trucks). 

No kettle or fridge in the room. 

Caters for couples only and weren’t made to feel welcomed.

Clean but for families I would keep looking

Great hotel, very clean room. We were in a family room - 2 adults and 2 grown ups. The service of each member of the staff was polite, the restaurant provides variety of dishes, fresh and very tasty. The breakfast presents high quality food with many options to choose from. 

Worth visit hotel

An interesting old building- but our room was in The Barn, which was nearer to the busy road (which kept us awake) and  with small windows. We weren’t able to book a double room so booked a family room which had none of the cozy charm I was expecting.
The blackout curtains just about worked and to close the blind on the skylight window we had to stand on a chair.
We had dinner in the hotel which was very nice, tasty and well presented.
Compared to other hotels on our holiday, this was quite expensive and I was looking forward to something a bit different and with old world charm.
The view of the lake is marred by the lorries parked opposite.

Interesting building

The hotel itself has a beautiful building and is a time travel entry.That said, we were given a cabin that on the outside looked like an after-dinner horror movie, and on the inside it was not dirty, but it had sillings that sank and lacked a more modern decoration.The windows were dirty and cars could be heard.The situation is no big deal, there is a mini-polygon between the hotel and the water.I'm a little bothered that at the reception they try to place me for dinner at the hotel.

Hotel with charm, our cabin without any charm.

A friend suggested having dinner at this restaurant, as we did. We were not disappointed! Three adults and two kids age eleven and thirteen, the friar of them from the US and me, a Norwegian. We chose their three- course dinner. An amazing cauliflower soup, the most tender lamb with good sauce and veggies, and a traditional dessert called “veiled farmers daughters” which is apple, crunch and whipped cream. This was served with rhubarb sorbet, probable the best sorbet I have ever had. One boy wanted fried trout, and his mother ordered the kid-size menu. When that was not enough, we ordered another pieces of the fish. Not a problem at all. The other boy is picky and wanted bacon , which had a few potatoes on the side. The waiter was asked if she ever had that request before, and the answer was no. But even that was not a problem. The adults chose the suggested selection of wines for the dinner, and they were perfect, as expected. The boys had ice cream for dessert, and also they though that the rhubarb sorbet was the best of the three ice cream flavors they got. Great service with a smile, attentive waiter, and not the least, perfect food. Granted it is not cheap and we knew that, but it was worth every krone! Add the charm of an old-fashioned wooden hotel from the 1800s, beautifully kept up in th old style with wallpapers and decorations belonging to that time. We did not stay there, so we don’t know anything about rooms, breakfast, etc.

Fantastic restaurant with great food

It was different and enjoyable to stay in a historic Norwegian Hotel, which was well maintained, decorated and furnished. The Hotel was in easy reach of the Loen Skylift and Briksdalsbre Mountain Lodge for the walk to the Briksdal Glacier, which was the main reason for choosing. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent with a plentiful wide range of choice.
However the view from our balcony was disappointing as it did not look down the fjord but across a yard of articulated trucks. Not the location I was expecting for a historic hotel
