I wish I had more time at this beautiful property. I am already missing my morning coffee views, walks to the beach, and the friendly staff. Julio and Eric were nothing but welcoming and accommodating throughout our entire stay. If you have a chance to stay at this property, be sure to ask for Marta and Emily to cook a couple meals during your stay! Fantastic value, amazing food, and incredibly nice people. Rooms were always clean, wifi was accessible throughout most of the property, and AC worked wonderfully in each of the rooms. I am looking for an excuse to return sometime soon!!

Excellent hotel 

Our stay at Orquidea was beyond perfection.  Located in a pristine stretch of natural beauty, perched on the hillside just above the great expanse of the pacific coast sits Orquidea del Sur.  A more beautiful sunset cannot be found - every sunset was worthy of a standing ovation . The staff treated us like VIP royalty - we felt pampered and extremely well looked after - starting with coffee delivery to our front sitting area each morning and ending after a delicious traditional Nica meal - lovingly prepared from scratch and served under a starlit night, overlooking that incredible pacific ocean that goes on as far as the eye can see.  The infinity pool is one of the most notable highlights of Orquidea given its prominence on the property and hand set, inlaid mosaic tiles.  You can relax in or near the pool and watch the clouds float by or quietly watch the resident howler monkey's swing and play in trees. Orquidea is a very quite and peaceful destination, however, if you're looking for adventure excursions, Robert or Joanne or Julio can help with suggestions or reservations for everything you can imagine - from surf lessons, zipling, fishing, ATV rides, restaurants, yoga, massage, volcano viewing - yes, we even got to see a live volcano while in Nicaragua.  Our family of five, we traveled with our 3 sons - 21, 18 and 15 - all had a truly memorable experience.  We are grateful to our gracious hosts Robert and Joanne and to the extraordinary group of lovely people who made our stay so very special.

I am embarrassed that it has taken me over a year to write this review...so my apologies to our amazing hosts for their incredible hospitality.  Hopefully the fact that after 14 months the fact I am taking the time to rate this establishment, those reading this post will know the lasting impression of our experience at Orquidea.  The property is lovely, quiet and peaceful.  The food exceptional and the staff couldn't do enough to ensure our enjoyment.  Most importantly our hosts made this a personal experience and after a week I truly shed tears as I will miss them!  THANK YOU for an amazing visit!  We hope to see you soon!

Amazing Hosts and property!!

This paradise deserves its number 1 status! It's exceptional in every way! We rented out the entire property for my husband's 40th birthday and could not be more pleased! Joanne and her entire staff greeted us upon arrival and
immediately made us feel welcome and at home, from start to finish every staff member was fantastic! I cannot praise them enough- kind and generous - friendly and full of advice.

Joanne and her staff bring this place to life, but it's the property that's unforgettable! A lush paradise meticulously manicured with plenty of quite nooks to relax and decompress while watching the Howler monkeys and exotic birds. Large spotless rooms and sweeping ocean views made complimentary morning coffee on my private patio all the more satisfying. The sunsets were to die for. Whether you were on the beach watching the surfers catch their last waves of the day, or floating in the resorts infinity pool with a cold beverage, there wasn't a bad seat in the house, That Nicaraguan ambiance infected every part of my being and quickly sweep away the outside world. At Orquidea, time seemed to stop in the most magical wonderful way.

Joanne was an undeniable asset who we all became fast friends with. She helped us plan our daily excursions and meals and conveniently provided us with a driver for $15 each way, it was wonderful! It seems a minor fender bender in Nicaragua can really cause a lot more trouble than its worth. It was nice to have it out of our hands. All we had to worry about was filling our days with fun and relaxation. We enjoyed things like the infinity pool, massages on the patio and gathering around the fire pit in the evenings. Off property we checked out the town and Christ of the Mercy. Explored local beaches and restaurants such as Playa El Coco and Playa Hermosa and visited awe inspiring Ometepe, A must do! We also went horseback riding and hiked down to the beach daily, but my personal favorite was our fishing trip. We caught 12 big beautiful fish (Jack and Tuna), some of which we brought back to the resort and had for dinner thanks to our fabulous personal chef! -PS. I would use San Juan Del Sur Surf and Sport, Dario is the best! 
All I can say is don't miss out on Nicaragua, and Orquidea Del Sur! Our group had an incredible time and the adventure we had all hoped for. We bathed ourselves in Nicaraguan culture, and made new friends and memories that will last us a lifetime! don't think our experience would have been the same without the help and accommodations of Orquidea Del Sur! Thank you for everything! 

A Nicaraguan Jewel

My family of 4 (children ages 8 and 11) just returned back to Virginia after an amazing stay at the Orchidea del Sur over our children's Easter Break. It just so happens that we missed the crowds of Holy Week in the area, and were the only guests apart from one day at the Orchidea when there was another couple staying on their honeymoon. We really enjoyed meeting them too. I cannot recommend the Orquidea del Sur enough. It is an oasis of tranquility and beauty. Honestly, I cannot remember the last time my rather energetic family has been able to relax on holiday…and we did here! The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. They anticipate all your needs. Joanne made us very welcome, as if we were staying at a friend's/family's home, ensuring that we had whatever we needed, we we needed it for it for our day's excursions. Basically, everything was effortless. I was able to explore different beaches when the others just wanted to hang out, the children had surf lessons one day, horse back riding another, and more. Sarah, Joanne's daughter, cooked us delicious meals every night, which we ate out on the lovely terrace. I even had a massage one day on one of the terraces overlooking the beach, with the sounds of crashing waves in the background. Our children had a blast with Joanne's granddaughter and enjoyed meeting all the family pets. When I just needed to be left alone to relax, they were always entertained on the grounds. I am just sorry that we did not have the opportunity to meet Robert, who was in Canada at the time. It will be difficult to get those views, sunsets, sounds of wave crashing and the images of beauganvilla in full bloom out of my head.

Now I am plotting when we might be able to get back next :)!

Amazing stay at the Orquidea del Sur

In April, we enjoyed a week at Orquidea del Sur. A very nice place to relax with the gypsies. Wonderful apartments and delicious cakes. Getting sunset. Robert is an excellent host. We came as guests and went as friends. Thank you.
