I was visiting the NHL University for a conference and stayed on site at this student staffed hotel. The students take great pride in all aspects from check in to room service. Rooms are decent with everything controlled through the television. There is a strong emphasis on sustainability resulting in tiny packets of soap, but there are several so this is fine. One point they could consider is to provide hair shampoo and shower gel (I used my own). 

Breakfast in the restaurant attached to the university was excellent and a real strength. Unusually, breakfast was not a buffet. Instead you are brought an individual,generous plate of ham and cheese,fresh bread and croissant with jam. Additionally you can order up freshly cooked eggs. 

The students seem to take pride in their service and work hard to satisfy their guests, presumably because they are being assessed on it.

Loved our stay

The most noticeable thing about our room was that there was an iPad like device next to the bed which basically was a computer dedicated to the room and hotel.  You could use it to control the lights, curtains, shades, and other room features.  You could also order services such as housekeeping.  Of course, you could control lights with switches, including bedside switches, and use the phone to call for services.  There was a motion sensor under the bed so when you got out of bed or stepped near the bed a soft light turned on under the bed, lighting your way.  In a more adventurous way, the shower and sink part of the bathroom had no door: it was open to the rest of the room, but behind the bed, so somewhat discreet.  It made me wonder how people other than couples would feel about showering without any privacy whatsoever as there was no shower curtain, just clear glass separating the shower from the sink area.  The toilet was in a separate part of the bathroom, with a solid, wood door.

That said, the room was quite large (about 400 square feet), the bathroom was very large, although long like a hall, and well equipped.  Our room had a king-size bed which was quite comfortable, although the pillows were too soft.  There were two swivel easy chairs with a small table (too small to hold a meal) and a desk with chair.  There was a mini-fridge, but it was just a small drawer in a small chest of drawers, so it could hold only a handful of small bottles, not any 1.5 liter bottles.  It did work well.  There is a built-in luggage rack and a good-size flatscreen TV.  The room was very clean.  The bathroom had a large, easily accessed shower, and a huge sink.  The shower had plenty of hot water and pressure.

Service was excellent.  Most of the staff are students at the university studying hospitality sciences, and are very eager to please.  A student escorted us to the restaurant which is in the same building, but about 100 yards away, and around several corners, so not easy to find.  The restaurant was amazing, but I have reviewed that separately.  There is parking outside the restaurant, so not far from the hotel.  There are luggage carts and a circular drive in front of the hotel, so it is easy to get your luggage to the room.

The hotel has only 45 rooms, and we were told we had the best room in the hotel, so most guests will not experience the hotel the way we did, but I suspect they will still be quite satisfied.

The hotel is less than a mile from the center of the city, but is on the university campus, so there weren't a lot of shops and restaurants very nearby.  The location was fine for us as we had done enough shopping during the day and wanted to eat at the hotel's fabulous restaurant (which deserves a Michelin star).

very innovative hotel

We stayed 2 nights. I chose this hotel as it was slightly out of town and therefore has easy parking and is away from any potential noise  from the downtown nightlife. It is a nice short walk though the adjacent park to the outer canal. The staff on reception and in the restaurant  appear to be mostly students studying at the attached university. In fact you walk through part of the modern uni building to get to the restaurant where breakfast is served.  They were all very attentive and pleasant.  I didn’t score top marks on service because for some reason the room wasn’t serviced after the first night, though whoever did the turn down service later that evening made a reasonable attempt at making the bed.

Quiet location just outside of town centre

The room was extremely clean, the bed comfortable, and the students were friendly and accommodating. The lighting system was a bit challenging to figure out and did not always work well. There was no air conditioning our first night but as soon as we mentioned it, it was fixed.

we had a very pleasant stay in the hotel, because the room felt very comfortable and clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We wonder if it will be not too warm in the summer, for it was so now already.

lovely stay

Less than 10 minute walk to city centre.  Very friendly and helpful staff.  Would certainly stay here again.  Large, clean room. 

I like sunny weather.  But sometimes rain is nice too.  This was a nice hotel.

Total overviel

Very comfortable beds, super friendly staff, not too far (10 minute walk) from the city center. If I could fault this hotel at one thing, is that sometimes staff members most of them are students and learning) are trying too hard. I loved my stay.
