I paid for a room at this hotel, and as we arrived, we soon discovered that it doesn’t exist anymore. We were unable to be refunded by the new hotel that have taken it over and were forced to pay to stay somewhere. Terrible, terrible service, can’t believe they didn’t warn us at the very least since I booked five months in advance

Intermittent power and water for three days. They had generators, but would only run them for a few hours at night. Was very hot and buggy. This hotel is actually being shut down and they are opening up a fancy waterfront hotel next door. On the bright side, our free breakfast was at their other hotel, and the wait staff and food were awesome.

I had visited this place in November 2017 with my family including kids. Kids enjoyed a lot because they could play in the swing in the garden of the hotel. Foods were served as “Nepali Thali” which had an original Nepali taste. Staffs were very friendly. The Jungle safari was very exciting and adventurous. Guide was helpful. It was a quite place to stay- peaceful. I would recommend this hotel for budget travellers because some other hotels of same category charge double or even more for the same service. 


A very good budget hotel to stay

I stayed one night at River Bank Inn in February 2016. The room is spacious, clean bathroom with hot shower. They were doing some renovations. The first room I was in had a stiff door (maybe because it was painted recently), The staff very kindly changed me to another room. One of the battery in the tv remote was missing. I had dinner (dhal bhat) on the roof terrace. Went on the elephant ride the next morning and managed to see a rhino with it's baby in the forest!  On the whole the hotel is ok with friendly helpful staff.

Friendly staff

My partner and I stayed at the River Bank Inn in Nov 2015 and were delightfully surprised with the quality of the place. Included were bus tickets to and from Kathmandu along with village tour, sunset by river bank, Elephant safari, Jungle walk and canoeing, cultural dance and elephant breeding program. Plus plenty of leisure time in between. 

However the programs between each hotel are exactly the same if you stay at a $20 per night hotel or a $200.

Our guide and the staff here were very friendly and a pleasure to be around. We were well looked after. Our guide is very environmentally concious. When on the jungle safari one of the other guides threw a used plastic bottle on the national park grounds, our guide picked it up and took it with him to throw in the garbage back at the hotel whilst giving him a dirty look. Very good to have people like that here. He is very knowledgeable too. 

Food is delicious, however it is a set menu. Power will be cut for 4 hours each day, but that is for all of the hotels and is done by the government. Hot water is provided but I believe it is a solar system. 

The grounds and rooms are clean, well maintained and comfortable. 

Overall, River Bank Inn was a delightful experience and would recommend to everyone in a budget to intermediate price range options.

Great service in Chitwan

We stayed here for 2 nights/3 days in December 2014 and did the entire safari experience through the hotel. 

The hotel is just OK. The location is good, a very short walk into town. The rooms could use a little renovations and painting, but otherwise it's okay for spending the night if you don't have extremely high standards. We found the water in the shower was always hot. The hotel has a private jeep to drive you around which is nice also. 

The staff were very friendly to us, and we didn't mind the food (even though you can't choose your meals) it was a good variety for 3 days. We would consider staying here again.

An okay place to stay in Chitwan

The rooms are ok, but the matresses are veeeery hard. The shower isn't always a hot shower either.

The location is nice, it's next to the river and the elephant bathing spot is right next to it. It's short walking distance from the main street in Sauhara, where you can get all the services you need. The hotel restaurant is just ok, breakfast was usually good, other food was average.

All the services they offer is waaay too expensive. Either negotiate a better price for all the safaris etc. or walk in to Sauhara and buy it from some local travel agency. Wifi doesn't work on the higher floors.

Ok value for money, pretty good location

We were at a hotel on a prepaid tour that we bought in Kathmandu. So there was no choice. Overall, the hotel was nothing, but there were no lights in the room, even when the electricity was on. The rooms were spacious, but not very comfortable. The food was the same, impossible to choose and not tasty, I can't imagine how people live there for three days. As for the safari itself, the elephant ride was good, we saw a lot of different animals.

It's okay for one night.

It's very nice, right on the river where everyone spends every sunset enjoying the end of every new day. The rooms are spacious and cozy, with mosquito nets, and the bathroom is clean, without blemishes. Good food and the open spaces in front of the main structure.

Excellent setting on the river

At the end of November, I visited Sauraha/Chitwan for 5 days. The room at the River Bank Inn I asked for a few days before we arrived by e-mail. Within a single morning, all questions were also answered by e-mail. I booked a budget room, and I got a fantastic room. It was clean, lovingly decorated, and there was a large, bright bath and warm water around the clock. It was easy to feel comfortable. The hotel was right by the river and right where the elephants go to bathe every day. Through the back entrance, you could get to the riverbank personally very quickly. Here you can not only watch the eleven, there are also wonderful sunsets with you. There was no day to enjoy, there was a nice bath and warm water around the clock. I had eaten the package for two days, and I had to pay a lot of extra attention to the elephants, and I had to look at the elephants.
