Each time I've been to Nepal I have booked in here. 
Close to Tamal and all its treasures. Staff are friendly and always as helpful as possible.
Food is average. Rooms are totally adequate, not 5 star ... but thats not what the place is about. It is clean and almost everything works. 

Love this place. No frills but one is 100% welcome.

This hotel is a basic hotel, with some plus points. 

Two star Western standard, clean yet dated rooms. Some have been refreshed, others have not, so you might want to see your room before you commit. If you need a place to rest your head, then this no-frills hotel will suit you. The staff are friendly and helpful. The grounds are quite nice with a lovely courtyard tucked away from the busy-ness of Thamel. There is an average breakfast of  breads, eggs, veggies, etc

Minus points: there’s a night club nearby that may disturb you in the night (we only stayed the weekend, so don’t know if this is a daily occurrence or not). The toilet and shower share a room so don’t forget to move your TP before you have your hot shower 😉

Basic plus

Good location and friendly staff plus very good food. Hotel was recommended by trekking company, location is excellent- bang center of thamel. Close to city center and all shops etc. rooms were good and facilities also good. All in all, a very good choice.

Trekking hotel base

This hotel came recommended with our trek package.  It is well positioned, staff are friendly, breakfast was good but I was a little disappointed with bed comfort and bathroom.
Expectations in Nepal were not high and while this hotel was OK I would, for a few dollars more, upgrade so you have a good quality shower and air conditioning.
The bathroom at Hotel Shakti was very basic.


Basic hotel 

Had stayed in Hotel Shakti, checking in & out, over a course of a month and i was glad that i chose it.

The rooms are pretty much basic, but no major concerns. There was hot water all the time- useful when checking in at odd hours of the day after a trek or extended trip out of Kathmandu Valley. Wifi while spotty at times were great as they have over 5 networks placed throughout the hotel.

The rates were reasonable enough for its location, which is the best part of the hotel. Located on the outer fringe of Thamel towards Lazimpat, it offers tranquility from the excitement of Thamel yet close enough to be in the center of the events within a short 5 mins walk. With 2 entrances accessible from 2 different alley it's a plus factor.

The staffs are friendly and helpful, always ready to assist if required. 

Recommended. They have (trekking) guides if required.

Budget Hotel that does it right

For all those passing through Kathmandu before a trek, this hotel is very convenient. It has sent us a car with a driver to pick us up at the airport for a reasonable price. It is located in the relatively quiet part of Thamel, not far from the greenline bus station for Pokhara. It offers proper rooms and a nice little garden for moderate prices. The wifi does not work well in the trek rooms however. Big advantage: it has a local to keep luggage to be left in Kathmandu during the trek. Finally, the reception is very friendly and professional.

A very convenient hotel

Hotel just a short walk from the noisy Thamel district (3 minutes walk...) Friendly staff. Always warm shower. Everyday changing napkins. Good breakfast. A flowery garden for a nice break. A good address!

Well located and quiet

We stayed here with our nine-headed trekking group before and after our Manaslu trek. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and tidy. You could make cheap phone calls and free internet access. The breakfast was fine. I'll pick this hotel again on my next stay.

Nice, very central hotel

Everything is done to keep it quiet, the hotel is enclosed in a green corner and this garden is very restful, the staff is extremely kind and helpful; what was less good was the very average quality of the rooms and above all the cleanliness of the toilets (not to mention that it took several days to repair our water tank). We were able to store our luggage there before going on a trek but on our return we found them in a very dirty state. We were also invaded by a very noisy group. We could have hoped that the management of the hotel would put a brake on the enthusiasm of these hotels but they let us do it and we went elsewhere.
