Liberty will liberate all the peace and comfort you would have in your mind prior to reaching this hotel.

This is a structure which was perhaps last painted 80 years ago and now the building is ready to be razed down.

No wifi despite agoda claiming and charging for wifi.
No English speaking staff
Rooms have paints peeling off and whatever damaged never repaired.
Beds have springs jutting out.

Only silverlining is that the day job front office staff , a lady,  was trying her best to retain us. She was doing an impossible job and I pity her.

War torn building not a hotel 

We started off well.  Arrived very early and they let us have rooms right away.  One room was OK.  The other was filthy.  We had to ask for another.  Internet only worked in the lobby, and even there only sometimes.  Breakfast was horrible. Nothing to it.  And finally, when we went to check out, even thought they had MasterCard/visa signs all over they said cash only.  We were headed home, and barely had enough to cover the hotel and a taxi to the airport.  Bad way to end a nearly perfect vacation.  I would never recommend this place.

Maybe as a last resort.

I have stayed in many hotels on my travels ranging from backpacker hostels to plush hotels, but I can honestly say I have never stayed in a worse hotel in my life! I had unfortunately prepaid for a night here so had to stay. The rooms were filthy, with cigarette butts on the floor and stank of smoke, the curtains and plug sockets were hanging off the walls and the bathroom and main ceilings had mould all over them. I asked to move rooms and the second was exactly the same as the first.  The sheets had not been changed and still had other guest's hair all over them, and when we asked for these to be changed this was not done. Please, seriously never book this hotel!

Grim and filthy!

I am deeply ashamed of this hotel and decided this should be a shout out.
We stayed at this hotel last Saturday morning (it was the closest hotel nearby our home, and we were locked out from partying late). 

We paid $30 for a twin bed room and expected a decent clean sheet of linen. That's all.
But, what we found were:

1) They didn't change the bed sheet. (We can see hairs, and stains of what one knows >< )
2) There were nothing in the mini bar. I doubt the fridge works at all.
3) There were none of toothbrush. Terrible toilet - so dirty.
4) The chair, and desk are broken. Room unpainted. 

Need I go on?

The most terrible hotel I have ever been to

Told by many people how hard it is to find accommodation in Myanmar and how prices have recently increased by 10 times, we were scared to be left without a place to stay. We looked online for hotels with rooms available. USD 65 a night was the cheapest we could find and it was at Liberty Hotel. Once at the hotel, we find out the price is actually USD 55 a night (it means you pay $10 extra booking through Agoda). Still very overpriced for a hotel with that shape. Accepting the room was a BIG mistake.
The hotel is falling apart. No renovation for the last 40 years. As far as we saw, the hotel is run by a bunch of kids (probably ageing from 12 to 17 yo) who don't speak a word of English. Everything takes for ever to get sorted. We spent half an hour at the desk for the check in to finally been told we have to pay later as they didn't have change on USD. The room was terrible. Mould, broken power points with exposed electric wires, 2 worn out overlapping bed sheets to barely cover the mattress...
In the morning they run out of fruits for breakfast. We had a few toasts, some old butter and a cold egg. Not impressed at all.
The hotel is 15-20 min away from the city center by taxi (~ USD 3).
We headed downtown right away and found many guesthouses with rooms available. And stayed from the next day at White House guesthouse for USD 27 a night, which is a much better deal.
My recommendation: go directly in town and check the guesthouses there by yourself. If you really can't find anything, look up on Internet to see which hotels have rooms available. But I'm sure you'll always find a much better deal in town.
