I would have given 5 stars to the hostel because we found it clean, both the room and the common bathroom, fantastic breakfast included, great staff, near restaurants and the night market area. Good. Unfortunately I have to give 2 stars. we left our zainons in custody (full of toppers from all over the world). left at the reception, in front of the entrance, full of cameras. When we returned after half a day a toppa (from Vietnam) had disappeared, someone had stolen it (!!!) attention, he hadn't torn or broken the backpack, he had removed the sewing thread with a scissor, so he had a long and meticulous little job.

Backpack security?

It's a good option for a budget tourist. Very responsive, nice staff. They helped us buy a bus ticket to Nyangshwe (Lake Inle). The room is small and showery, there are no windows, the bathroom is on the floor.

I advise you to stay on the 5th floor. It’s more quiet although the cell rooms are less pleasant.

Best quality price

This was our first stop in Myanmar and I felt welcomed and at home. The Wi-Fi was great for us and we had a lot of advice from the staff on buying bus tickets and directions around town. A nice budget place for us!

Lovely place

ShannKalay Hostel is a bit far away from the bus or train station, but you wouldn't mind walking a bit long on the streets of Yangon.  The owner speaks my language and is very helpful in showing directions for me on the map, and helps me to book my bus ticket to Inle Lake.  You can also enjoy it's decent breakfast and certainly you can't complain with the price you paid.  However, for me, the downside is their space is really limited and you probably will have trouble climbing to the upper bed if you are a talk guy.  But again, staying there for a night or two is more than enjoyable.

Fine for staying for one night or two

We enjoyed the breakfast and the situation but were disappointed by the lack of windows in the rooms, the bad smell there and the dirt that characterized the common areas, including the sanitary facilities. It is worth noting that it is possible to book bus tickets and others directly from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to any budget traveler, but I would advise those traveling on a larger budget to buy a little more comfort.

The right hotel for a small budget

Stayed here for our only night in Yangon. The room was certainly nothing special and didn’t even have a window, but it was clean with a comfy bed, free WiFi and working air-con, with complimentary water bottles. Reception area was nice and staff tried to be helpful but spoke little English. Hostel sign is in Burmese only so make sure your taxi driver knows where to drop you. 

Ok for the price

We spent two nights in this hotel. The rooms are cute, very cocooning, and clean, with all the toiletries needed. The bathrooms and toilets are common but they are clean and there are several per floor so there is no shower queue. Breakfast is fine (tea/coffee, 2 toasts, 1 egg, butter/confection and some pieces of fruit) to take on a small balcony. In addition, the staff is friendly and smiling! Located 30 minutes walk from the Sule pagoda.

Best quality/price ratio from far away! Very welcome,the hotel team is available to give you advice.The breakfast is very complete.The rooms are nickel.The guest house is very well located,there are lots of small cheap restaurants next door,the neighborhood is quiet.We really enjoyed this place!

That's perfect!

Staff were always helpful and smiling. Bagan room has one huge double and one single bed, nicely decorated, quiet at the back of the hostel despite being near the toilet facilities. Breakfast is good. WiFi OK but sim worth purchasing at airport. Cheap and good eateries located very near by.
