Very peaceful and relaxing place. All areas very clean and the staff very friendly and attentive.
Mr. Andrew (the owner) was always very attentive and concerned with our well being.
The Lodge is literally on top of the dunes, less than 100 meters from the sea.
At one point or another, it needs little maintenance. Nothing that detracts from the stay.
I'll be back.

Quiet and relaxing

Where to start. The lodge is just amazing and could not ask for a better stay for my first visit to Pemba. The service is excellent and food is just amazing, with great hospitality from the start to finish there is not much that they can improve on. I would highly recommend nZuwa lodge to any body that wishes to experience a proper accommodation to unwind and to relax. Keep up the good work guys

nZuwa Lodge 100%

There is new management at Nzuwa and it shows! Compared to our visit there previously there has been much development around the bar/restaurant/pool area. However, it is not the buildings or pool that have made the biggest impact it is a bundle of energy, friendliness and amazing food produced by Cecilia. This lady is THE most wonderful host and chef. Nothing is too much for her and she always goes above and beyond. Everything at Nzuwa was an absolute pleasure and it is all due to the wonderful team in place running and managing the lodge. The staff are also friendly and helpful and strive to meet your every need. From a gorgeous setting to amazing management we had a wonderful experience and can highly recommend the newly managed Nzuwa Lodge. Thank you to everyone who made our stay a memorable one but mostly THANK YOU Cecilia for being as wonderful as you are.

Outstanding!!

We stayed at nZuwa about two years ago and apart from the tranquility, there wasn't much to get excited about!! We had heard that it was under new management and things were much better so we decided to book again for 5 days whilst on a business/pleasure trip to Pemba. What an amazingly pleasant surprise on arriving to find that all of the previous never ending construction was over and the place is looking amazing. Added to that the staff are well trained now and noithing is too much for them. The menue has been vastly improved and the food is truly outstanding. Cecilia the manager and head chef goes out of her way to make guests feel comfortable and the staff managed by Stefano are really on the ball. The rustic charm of the chalets has been enhanced with the addition of airconditioners and are kept spotlessly clean. The beauty and charm of this place is totally underrated and it is definitely a must see for a couples getaway. Very reasonably priced for what you get .
Well done to Cecelia and her staff for breathing new life into this establishment. I highly recommend spending time here.

New management has turned this place around!!

The hotel was recently bought and the new manager really wants to make improvements. The service and the restaurant are very good. The swimming pool is very nice. But the beds, bedrooms and bathrooms are quite poor. It will take some work to make the place more welcoming. It's also not disgraceful but it's quite spartiate. Little water flows from the shower, half the electrical sockets are torn off and not working. There's no window (just mosquito nets) or insulation: outside printing.

Lovely service but rooms and bathrooms to improve

Its far away from the airport and from pemba, so prepare to pay between 100-1500 Mt to Arrive there.
The place didnt look like the pictures, it seems that they stop taking care of it. You can check on the pictures how was it. And considering that we pay 90 usd per night, i consider it as a fake!

Its in the middle of the anything, and we were alone there... so it is quite boring. As it is far from everywhere... you are forced to have lunch and dinner there, and food is very good, but too expensive! Almost the double of others places in pemba!!!!

The beach is quite inaccesible to swim, and during our stay he read that it was dangerous and other guests had problems.

We tried to be positive thinking that we at least could relax and have the swimming for as. But suddenly a lot of kids come shouting, and we found it quite annoying. The rules of the swimming pool were writen very clear... no shouting, no eating on the pool, no jumping... but they didnt mind if 10 kids were doing all of that. What a coincidence... they were friends of the owner... they should take care more of the people sleeping there, cause we are paying a lot

We wanted to hire with them a trip to ibo, but after that we read an opinion of one week ago, where they said than they asked at the end more money, so we didnt trust on them and we decided to cancel it.

For the last day, they get us a taxi to our next hotel (20 min away), and despite it was very very expensive(1200 mt), the car was almost broken, the driver didnt didnt drive properly, and he chose a wrong and dangerous way. He was all time on the phone and we found it really dangerous the way he was driving. If they organise a transportarion, they should ensure it is a good one.

The positive things... they have kayaks for free, they seem to be nice, and food is ok, but prices are too high.

It is the worst place that i have been in mozambique.

Not recomendable at all

At first thought the photos were much nicer than real life, but as soon as we had our delicious welcome drinks and incredible lunch, all worries melted. Highly highly highly recommend! Delicious food. Attentive and friendly staff, beautiful beach! Comfy beds. What more could you want???

There are few times in life where a holiday of a lifetime turns into such a nightmare that all you want to do is get on a flight and go home. What I took from nZuwa was a viral illness that lasted three weeks, 2 courses of antibiotics and a deep desire to never return. 

This "lodge" is actually a backpackers hostel as opposed to a semi-luxury or even rustic style beach chalet. It feels like it is run by a woman who doesn't want to be there (Alex was away during our stay so we cannot comment on him). His wife Gianni is rude, uninterested and has absolutely no concern for her guests. Having trusted the reviews we read on booking.com and TripAdvisor, we were later made aware by a fellow guest that many of these reviews were actually from her friends and a lot of the photos we saw were completely inaccurate.

Whilst the staff are wonderful and will do whatever they can to make things better, it does not help when the person in charge has no regard whatsoever for her guests.

Despite raising the fact that we had no hot water, the mosquito nets had holes in etc... It is only when we got into an untenable situation that she listened to us.  Our room got completely flooded, our suitcases and clothes were soaked in the storm and were covered in mosquito bites. 

We ended up forfeiting the rest of the money we paid just to get out of the hell we found ourselves in. I don't think I will be as trusting when it comes to photos online and i've learnt one of the biggest travelling lessons yet.

Romantic Holiday turned HELL ON EARTH

We had a great one-night stay here. Delicious food, beach to ourselves, and wonderful staff! About 20ish minutes from the Pemba airport - contact them beforehand for a transfer.

Quiet, Friendly Place

We stayed only one night in this hotel and it was a fantastic experience. Our bungalow was right on the beautiful and miles-long beach and at night you could only hear the sound of the waves. The bungalow is very spartan and as soon as we entered we immediately had a horrifying encounter with a cockroach but it was part of the experience. In the evening we were surrounded by crabs!! The good food and the very friendly and welcoming staff. Recommended for those who can adapt and want to enjoy the sea. The beach is beautiful at virtually deserted.
