Absolutely disaster of organization and clear example of the worst morrocan "businessmen" have to offer. Avoid at all costs, better to go alone than to use their services.

Our snake riad manager offered his friends Rashid services for our trip to Merzouga desert. We were supposed to have a fun quad bike on the dunes and spend a night in the desert in their camp. The quad trip was really umderwhelming, you go 20km/h max following some kiddos like ducks with no opportunity to free roam. Then we got to the camp which is pretty much smoke and mirrors. They advertise as luxury but the toilets, showers and faucets dont work, the power outlets dont work, onpy one lakp worked, the dinner and breakfest were really lackluster and the "brother" Rashid is more interested in shilling extra services for dumb price with no clear plan on when thibgs will happen. P.S. they didnt even provide the basic services ALL the other camps had i.e. a firepit and some drum music so it was just aimless wandering until you decide to tuck in under a hard mattress.

Absolutely worst decision you can make in Merzouga

This place is the biggest scam I ever encountered. Basically, nothing is included. You will have to pay for everything, even the littlest drop of water you will want to drink. And the prices are ridiculously high. The hosts are 15yo weed smokers, driving jeep with no seatbelt nor driving license. The wifi is existent but not working for a penny, and when you tell the host about it he tells you that the wifi doesn’t have to work to be included in the website description, mocking you. The wake you up shouting at 5:30 am to make you leave as soon as possible, insulting you in arabic as they think you don’t understand. During the whole trip they make you feel like you are a burden and not welcomed. The pricey shower doesn’t have any pressure. The worst place I ever stayed at in the whole world, never payed this much to be humiliated.

HUGE SCAM

If you're looking for a location to film Hostel Part 4, then you've found it! 

My husband and I were headed to Caravanserai desert camp for an overnight and were told to meet here. We arrived at around 2:30PM and the place was a ghost town. The whole place was dark, hot and the front desk was completely barren save a dozen flies buzzing and one sad set of keys hanging on a number on the back wall. We peeked around looking for signs of life only to find a sketchy dude lounging on a dirty mattress in the "luggage storage". He looked at me, looked away and went back to watching videos on his phone. Nervoucly, my husband, our guide and I turned around and walked out. Not knowing what to do, we headed down the road to grab lunch (though I was no longer hungry). 

After eating and confirming we had the correct meeting point, we returned to Akabar. At this point, the other travelers had arrived and were already on the camels. We were shuttled to a room to change (thank goodness we didn't need to use the disgusting lobby bathrooms). The room was cavernous but scary still - dead bugs of all sorts littered the floor and beds and the bathroom toilet was clogged. A sad broken handheld shower hung on a rail near a drain in the center of the floor. I would have slept in the car or the desert to ever staying in that room. We quickly changed and headed out. We were relieved to hear our bags wouldn't be left at Akabar and that we'd be able to shower at the camp. 

All in all, you couldn't pay me to stay here. On the off chance all other hotels are sold out, sleep in your car.

Caravanserai Luxury Desert Camps, if you're reading this, please stop sending your guests here. It's terrifying and a horrible way to start a desert excursion. If you continue to, at least give everyone heads up that it's strictly a meeting point.

Only stay if you're filming a horror movie

i stayed at akabar hotel for one night and booked a 4wd tour through the desert with them and a camel ride with sleeping in the desert.

the worst thing was: i had arrived with a young morocan female solo traveler i got to know on the public bus to merzouga. the owner does not speak french very well, so i dealt with his brother. and because she had arrived there together with me and we were discussing about sharing the room, he must have considered her "easy" and started sexually haressing her.

we did not share rooms, but the next morning, while i was having breakfast, he called her in her room and asked her, if he could come over, but did not precisely say why he would want to do that, but kept insinuating on sexual motivations for that.

moreover, later, when she appeared in the lobby, asking for tours and prices, she did not have enough money for the tours so he insinuated to reduce the price for her in exchange for sex.

she decided to leave even without having taken her breakfast and look for another hotel in the town.

my stay at the akabar hotel in merzouga was clearly a disgusting experience. if you are a female solo traveler, do not stay there.

lastly, the couches in the reception area (they should be there for the guests) are blocked most of the time by reception staff laying there while having nothing else to do. 

hotel akabar is about 2-3 km out of town, which means that you need your own transport to get there and to the town, otherwise you will have to walk for about 30 minutes, because merzouga is a little town and there are no taxis like in big towns and cities.

Everything perfect - nice and honest people, great location, clean rooms, perfect servis, delicious food. Spent 2 nights, 1 on hotel, second day 4x4 trip around dunes and then camel trip to desert camp. Absolutely satisfied.

Výborné místo, které jsme našli náhodou potom co jsme se nedohodli v místě objednaném ve Fezu. A nemohli jsme udělat líp! Parádní prostředí, skvostný výhled na duny, ochotní a přátelští lidé u kterých platí přesně co je domluvené. Doporučuji využít i výlet džípem po okolí. A noc v poušti je bez pochyb nezbytná! 

Perfect gate to the dunes

For overnight stays this hostel is on the top floor. The rooms are spacious and spacious. It's not the big luxury. It's a hostel. The showers are warm. On the Internet there is a connection but not very good. The staff is no more. On the dining side, it's crazy!

Good hostel.

The hotel is on the best location just next to the dunes. Staff (brothers) are very nice friendly and helpful especially Hasan. He is good guide and he you can do trip to Marroco. Spended time in their camp in a dessert was amazing. Food in the hotel is verry good. The price is good. We recomende this hotel to everyone who wants to spend good time in the dessert (family with little children too). Completly was wery good.

Trip Merzouga

We (family and i) stayed in Merzouga for 2 days.. First night we spent in Auberge Akabar and the second night we spent in the tents  their camp. People there were so nice and they gave us everything we asked for. The night we spent in a camp was unforgettable. We rode the camels between the dunes and saw sunset and the next morning sunrise too. It was amazing. Lhoussain and his brothers were playing like crazy on drums and they teached us too. They all are funny and surrounded with good energy. It was amazing experience for all family.. I'm grateful for this experience and I'll definitely visit them again.

The site is spectacular, the details and rooms are very nice and quiet, the attention received greatly, in the middle of the desert, with excellent breakfasts and meals!

The hostel is a great place for anyone who wants to get closer to the customs of the Sahara. The reception is warm and the hostel team is always listening to our requests.
