I had a wonderful two night stay at D'Villa. The staff is just so friendly and warm. I was lucky enough to meet Wilson the owner and his two lovely twins; he gave me some helpful tips about the area. The views are beautiful and it's just a stone's throw away from the park entrance. The included breakfast was good, however the restaurant itself was overpriced. I stayed in the dorm room which was very basic but reflected the price. They have some snacks and handy items for sale if you're climbing the mountain and forgot something. There are lots of plants and greenery around. WiFi worked well for me. It's school holidays now so the hot springs are very crowded fyi. Could use some soap in the bathrooms but other than that no complaints. I would stay again!

Lovely views, friendly staff, great location for park

We booked two nights but only stayed one as the toilet didnt work and when we got back in the arvo we had no water.the bedding was shir.mattress was shit.the front of house girl didnt give a shit.breakfast was so bad we didnt bother.the noise from trucks roaring by every two minutes all night made it impossible to sleep.looked like the toilets just ran into the bush.the worst place in asia. Of course wouldnt refund any money even our tourist tax. Absolute worst ever

Life in hell

The location is very good. Just 70m from Mount Kota Kinabalu National Park Entrance. the food is nice also.

We take a dorm for 30 MYR/p. The room is very basic, just two bunk beds. The bathroom is horrible. We have supper in the restaurant: Tom Yam seafood noodle for 10 MYR and seafood tofu soup for 8 MYR but there is no seafood in my soup. I try to talk to a waitress but it’s useless- they don’t speak English here. The views from the restaurant are amazing.

Basic accommodation but good location

Hotel room is a bit old and a lot of mosquitoes.

We stayed here as a group of 14 after climbing my Kinabalu. The rooms were clean enough and most had exclusive use of bathrooms. Some rooms had a wonderful outdoor veranda with an excellent view. 
The food was variable in quality and I definitely think that the breakfast offering could have been improved. 

However, the hotel is ideally situated and was convenient for our needs. 

Useful place to stay after climbing the mountain

Great, cheap alternative for visiting Kinabalu Park. Walking distance from the entrance, and the bus for KK/Sandakan just outside the door.Room is a bit budget, but nice blankets and hot shower.The view and the food is great:-)

Nice alternative for Kinabalu Park

Good location

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights on the recommendation of one of the locals, and we found the hotel to be okay. When we arrived the lady that checked us was very helpful and as they didn't have a double room available they gave us a triple room at the price of the double (120RM per night) She even let me check the room before we committed and in the sunshine with the doors open and breeze blowing the room looked okay. However once we got in and unpacked that's when I started to notice things weren't as they seemed...

Pros:
- Stunning view from the balcony
- Room was very spacious 
- Food on offer was very cheap and delicious, all cooked fresh too (10RM for lemon rice and chicken etc)
- Wi-Fi (when it worked) was very good in the dining area
- Walking distance to the National Park, easily under 1km away
- Staff were very friendly and helpful

Cons:
- The room smelt very very foisty and old
- The bed is horrifically uncomfortable
- The bed linens need updating from the hard pillows and scratchy duvets
- The bathroom is ancient and needs some serious attention
- The toilet wouldn't flush properly...at all
- The rooms are very noisy, we could hear our next door neighbours change their minds
- Bugs in the room...moths, spiders, flies and goodness knows what else get in under the door gap to the balcony (we used a towel to plug it up)
- Breakfast is poor, only one choice of an American breakfast (1 egg, 1 sausage, tiny portion of beans and 2 bread) Tea and coffee plentiful but had so much sugar in it made it undrinkable

This hotel is fine if you're on a certain budget and want a base close to the National Park as for some people it will serve it's purpose. However if you're wanting some comfort etc then I would try somewhere else as this hotel was too basic for me personally. For the same price I reckon you could find a bit of a step up closer to Kundasang or Ranau!
