Ile Sainte-Marie

We stayed one night at this hotel before we left on the boat. A rather anonymous hotel, although well maintained. The beach in front of the hotel is impractical due to the curls. A nice swimming pool, well maintained. A great restaurant, very kind staff.

Perfect for a night near the center.

We have ben here for two days so far. We would leave if we could but we have already payed in advance so we have to stay another 5 dsys...

You can't swim in the sea at the beach because of urchins. That was a big disappointment for us when we arrived. You can swim around the rocks out in the sea but thats barely possible with little kids. Other hotels seem to clean their beaches from urchins but not this one. The pool is nice but quite chilly.

There are multiple roosters around the property. They start screaming at 3am and keep going until 6am to make sure you cant even dream of going back to sleep again. 

Many of the staff are not very friendly but seem unmotivated. There are exceptions, e.g. the receptionist. Also they are not very attentive. We are a family with toddlers and we had to ask for the high chair and a spoon instead of cutlery every meal - they would not bring it themselves. 

The food is tasty but the menue is quite small. Dinner starts at 7pm the earliest. You have to preorder your meal and they give you a timeslot. If you aren't the first to order, you can't choose your slot but have to take what is left. Sadly they were always late for our meals - starting dinner at 7.30pm with two tired toddlers is just a pain. 

The rooms are spacious, the shower is hot. There are no mosquito nets at the windows. So in the evening you basically sit in your bed under the mosquito net or you get stung. In our house some of the lamps were broken so it was quite dark.

That's it. I suppose Libertalia is a good place to go for couples that are not light sleepers and don't expect too much from the staff. We think it is not great with little kids and for people who want to have a good sleep here - because you most likely wont.

We can't recommend Libertalia

On a week-long vacation, we were warmly welcomed there, the beachfront bungalows were comfortable and offer breathtaking views. The overflowing pool overlooking the ocean is sun-warmed and we eat very well in the large dining room littered with the sound of the waves. We were there in mid-October, before the high season, perfect! One morning a whale even rewarded us with a smooth passage within easy reach.

Stay nice in a comfortable bungalow with ocean view

The Libertalia is an unpretentious but very pleasant hotel, with comfortable bungalows with extensive facilities, which overlook directly the private beach. The staff there are very friendly, very willing and always ready to help. And the hotel directly organizes whale watching outings, on a very well-suited and comfortable boat, with a rare skill, which we highly recommend. This place is by far the best whale watching spot we have seen. They are ubiquitous even in September, we were able to enjoy superb sauts, and multiple sightings. An excellent establishment

Beach and whales in Libertalia

A wonderful hotel with beautiful bungalows on the beach, spacious and very well equipped. The restaurant is excellent, the staff is very kind and attentive. Thank you to everyone and especially Aurélie for her kindness as well as the boss with whom we had a moment's discussion. Bravo for the quality of the massage with Catysia, who has been able to adapt to the demand.. a pure moment of relaxation! The setting is beautiful with a swimming pool and a well equipped pontoon... In short, a very good address. We will definitely return there..

A garden near the city centre

We spent 4 nights in Libertalia. An absolutely beautiful establishment, bungalows on the beach, sublime. Our stay in Libertalia checked all the boxes we were looking for: quietness, proximity to the capital (5 min in tuktuk), the beach edge. The kitchen is excellent in a beautiful restaurant with tables and a transat on the beach to enjoy the sublime sunsets. The staff is adorable, always smiling and a little thoughtful for us (a thought for Aurélie, Zoanne and all the others). The bungalows are beautiful, decorated with gout and the beach only meters which makes the sleep beaten by the waves (then, yes, that's not what we were looking for, but we often returned to the city of Libertalia and loved the setting for 5 minutes and we loved it very much.

Our Best Stay

The Libertalia is located in the centre of St. Mary's Island, close to the city centre, the bungalows overlook the beach, you can fall asleep at the sound of the waves, but in the morning you will hear the vehicles on the road nearby. No kettle available... only possible swimming near the rock at the end of the ponton. Very good and varied breakfast, fresh fruit juice, the decoration of the living room is very beautiful and African-style. The price ratio is very good on St. Mary's or the price of hotels can become prohibitive. We recommend this hotel.

Central St. Mary's Hotel with refined decoration

It's the fourth or fifth time we've stayed here and it's still as beautiful, as quiet as it is. We've been there again this time during the whale season and we've seen it jump out of the sky, just looking out the window of our bungalows.

You're still such a fool!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Libertalia and would definitely recommend. Friendly staff with good customer service. Beach front bungalows had amazing ocean view (we saw whales jumping and amazing sunsets). The accommodations were simple, but clean and well appointed. Our only complaint from the room was the mattress quality, which after 4 nights caused some minor back pain. The ambiance at the hotel was fantastic, with plenty of options for beach front lounging with good music, a long dock heading out to a rock island (best place for sunset), and a nice infinity pool. We enjoyed kayaking, playing pool and doing yoga in upstairs common space, and getting massages. Only a short taxi ride from airport (15 min?) and even shorter ride to the main town (5-10min). We opted for half-board and while the breakfasts were a bit monotonous, the dinners were fantastic. We also highly recommend the whale watching expedition. They even do an educational presentation the night before.
