I've eaten all over Beijing and HK, and most Chinatowns worth their salt, but the meal I had here was top notch. Ants Climbing a Tree, Dan Dan Noodles (special order, but the chef and owners are from Sichuan), Steamed Spareribs with Rice Flour, and Mustard Greens. Highly recommended.

One of the best Chinese meals I've had

I read the reviews AFTER I had booked the room and was pretty worried that it was a flea pit. It was nothing of the sort, while it is a bit tired in some places ,I found the rooms to be clean and the service was excellent, and its not expensive. It is really handy to good bus service and close to town.Glebe is a lovely area with lots of good affordable food outlets.

I stayed here in Nov 2012 with a group of girls on our nursing prac trip. We stayed here on the weekends and felt like it was a home away from home. The owner of the hotel was very accommodating and definitely looked after us. The staff, even those with minimal english were very helpful. The rooms are nothing special but a decent bed and shower is all we were after. It's located about a 10-15 min walk away from the town centre. Breakfast was average but decent enough. All in all, we were happy with our stay here.

Comfortable stay

This place most definitely belongs to the Communist era. Absolutely no character at all. But having said that - exceedingly friendly and helpful staff, right in the center, 100 metres from the Mekong river and - best of all - you can watch the early morning procession of monks receiving alms from your bedroom without having to book and pay for the privilege and great breakfast.

Of you want a room only - fine.

Not the best place I've stayed in, but far from the worst.

I chose Haysoke as I was coming from Vientiane on the last day of the Lunar New Year, and because there was a Haysoke guesthouse affiliate in Vientiane, I worked with them (although they were pretty incompetent as well as rude) to secure a reservation for Haysoke hotel in Luang Prabang.  After reading some of the reviews, I can say I was somewhat concerned, but because of the holiday, it was my only choice.  Everything else was booked solid.

When I arrived the power was out all over the town.  The guy at the desk took me to my room (spacious and well furnished) and asked me to wait for the power to come back on. 10 minutes later, the power was back on, but it was then I discovered the wifi barely touched this room, as it was the farthest from the router.  I told the guy my problem and he immediatly moved me downstairs to a smaller room, but next to the router, so full signal.
There were some problems with this room: The air conditioner leaked condensation all the time (they kept a towel on the floor beneath it 24/7 to catch the water and changed the towel daily-hey, worked for me), one of the electrical outlets was out, so I could use the tv OR the fridge, but not both. He fixed this by bringing in a strip with 5 plugs, so that fixed this.

There always seemed to be exactly 5 mosquitos in the room at all times. No matter how many I killed, there were always 5 left.  Very odd.    

True, as others have said, it is about a 15 minute walk to the center, and it is a dusty and dirty 15 minutes, but I like to walk, so no biggie.  The tuktuk drivers here are flat out theives, wanting 30,000 kip for a ride to the center - pay no more than 10,000, it's about 90 seconds on a tuktuk.  These people have no morals at all.

Breakfast was ok, nothing super special, but adequate.  The first morning I got there, the girl that worked the dining area was sound asleep - out cold, 8 in the morning, at a table, I had to wake her up, but realized later that this is VERY normal (people sleeping on the job) in Luang Prubang, and also it was the morning after New Years, so understandable.
   
A final word about the wifi - although I had a strong signal off the router, the internet is VERY slow, slower than dial-up.  It may have something to do with the kid at the front desk constantly downloading YOUTUBE videos, 3 windows at a time, but I could be wrong.  Either way, if you need fast internet, don't stay here.

Would I stay here again? Probably not, as there are so many more options (in the low season, of course) to choose from in the center, as well as the peninsula, but it's not a bad place.

The word that comes to mind is: OK

Reception staff are sleepy. Rooms are colorfully furnished, not very useful. But above all: loud, loud, loud! Ventilator of the air conditioning systems are so tightly connected to the rear wall of the building that this is an ideal sound transmitter. If you like the room's noisy ventilator storage, you're right here! Written authorizations, such as pick up at the airport, quiet rooms, separate beds, are not respected. And: Free pick up at the airport applies only to direct bookers who book via intermediary (we book via Agoda, for example) does not seem to like to be seen directly next to the large hotel construction site, from 7am to 5pm and shoots and seeds are carried out.
