I've spent 4 nights in this guesthouse, a second choice as most of the guesthouses near the Miyanoura harbor were fully booked,  but it was rewarded best decision. The guesthouse is located not far from the coast, also very close to a beautiful waterfall you can see on your way there. It's a little bit secluded, but it adds to its charm. It's only a 20 minute bus ride away from the two main sea onsens (hot springs) 

A gem, close to the hot springs on the south coast

This is a cottage south of Yakushima.
Very lovely place with affordable prices. The location is quite suburb. With a car, there's no problem. Without a car, the bus schedule is the most important information to travel.

Location:
5~10 min walk from bus stop #87 鯛ノ川(Tainokawa). The viewpoint of トローキの滝(Toroki Falls) 屋久島町まごころ市 ぽん・たん館(local product shop) are close. And nothing else nearby. Guests without cars would better not miss the last bus at 6~7 pm. Botanical Research Park is one stop away. The location is between southwest and southeast touristic areas by the way.

Facility:
Well-maintained cottage with several rooms. Kitchen lounge is so big and comfortable. Guests need to be careful not to open doors to prevent bugs from inside.
Coin washer is outside. It's good to run in the early morning or late night.

Service:
The manager is very gentle and active to help guests' itineraries. He leaves the facility in the evening and comes in the morning. He speaks proper English. Rice ball lunch request in advance is also available with 520 yen.

Cozy cottage in the forest. Affordable and far-located from downtown.

Friendly, very helpful hospitality, fantastically beautiful area, good busin connection, clean, well-equipped hostel (with food supplies for all those who forgot), cozy community kitchen,... highly recommended

Great accommodation in the rainforest

This is one of the cleanest guest houses I've stayed in. Shared facilities are spotless. For the bathrooms there are separate toilet slippers to wear when you use the bathroom, you leave your guesthouse slippers in front of the door - which also signals to others that the toilet is being used. And the kitchen was tidy and clean every morning, dishes neatly stored away again. 

Basic food (e.g. toast and jam, ready-made noodles) and drinks can be purchased cheaply from the guest house. There is a local produce and souvenir shop closeby, but it sells fresh vegetables and a few cookies rather than actual meals. Options are a bit limited in the immediate vicinity of the guest house. 

When checking in - NOTE: check-in is available only from 4pm onwards, but if you arrive early you can leave your luggage in the common area - host Hrio makes sure you're across how things are run. This is both helpful and helps keep the place in order. 

Lots of local information such as bus time tables, hiking trails etc is available from info boards and Hero is always happy to recommend activities and give helpful advice. 

The rooms are small, with bunk beds and AC - and windows that open and have fly screens! and again spotless. Mattresses are fairly thin (futon-style), but Hiro could be talked into providing us with a second one due to back problems. Towels can be hired, but only for internal guesthouse use, not Onsen or beach. 

A few meters down the road there is an old bridge that crosses a beautiful mountain stream and the Senpirono Falls are walking distance (approx 1 1/2 hours return) away.

Very clean guesthouse, helpful host

Guesthouse Yakushima was such a pleasure to stay at. Our Host Hero was incredibly helpful and informative and helped as book cars as soon as we arrived. He also recommended what hikes to do and what gear we should get. The accommodation was in a beautiful location in the forest by the river. The facilities -bathrooms and kitchen were comfortable and nice to use. Hero also has food you can buy off him for very cheap which came in handy when we needed a late night snack. The beds and rooms were comfortable and nice. If I were to visit Yakushima again I would definitely stay here and would recommend for anyone to stay at this location.

Amazing host and place

This is very good quality guesthouse that is only a few years old so everything is spotless.  It has a good kitchen, area to relax with other guests and also nice shower/bathroom facilities.

I think it is a great location to get to from the port or airport and is also well place to go to the west side of the island. (tip: rent a car - the freedom is worth the cost)

To top it off, Hiro is a lovely, kind gentleman who is extremely helpful.

Excellent Guesthouse!!!

This is a very modern guesthouse, run by the perfect host, mr. Hiro. He speaks perfect English and is so hospitable. Staying in this guesthouse feels like living in his kitchen, because that is the place where everybody is gathering. I felt so welcome, even though I was dirty after 2 days of hiking through the mountains.
