Excellent
883 reviewsThis hotel is right inside the station so a great location for arrival/ departure by train. It was also excellent for exploring Kyoto and surrounding area (we went to Nara one day) as trains, buses and subway are easily accessible from the building and most seem to end back at the station. The only downside is it’s in the middle of the city so not in a quiet backwater that’s peaceful to wander around after dinner (we had a stroll round the Philosophers Path area one evening) but we felt on balance we’d made the right choice. There were lots of dining and shopping options including convenience stores in the building so very easy to find eat in take out food and drink. The only issue we had was the building is huge and google maps showed us as on the opposite side of the tracks so - heading out to get our bearings the evening we arrived - we got hopelessly lost (it got much easier after that). Another plus is the meeting point for tours (with Panoramic Japan) is just across the road so we didn’t need to get up too early. So location was brilliant. The hotel itself was smart, clean and reasonably comfortable, not large rooms but not as small as we anticipated. The beds were fine, decent enough modern mattresses, although not luxuriously soft. The sound proofing was excellent - we were on the 4th floor right above the trains and despite being light sleepers there was no disturbance. Rooms were very clean with thorough housekeeping (including fresh pyjamas, replenishment of everything) daily. There was only green tea in the rooms so we took a few from breakfast, two water bottles each day, kettle and fridge. No safe. The staff were all welcoming, polite and efficient. The included breakfast (which we weren’t expecting) was good with lots of options (eg various cereals, scrambled eggs, hamburgers, Japanese options, croissants and toast) plus juices, tea and a proper coffee machine. We’d stay there again and recommend it.
