Golden Pavilion House

Lovely place to visit.  The sparkling gold-leaf of the pavilion building set agaist the trees and the carp-filled lake is beautiful & great for photographers. There's basically one way around the grounds that takes you past & through everything.  Shops, toilets etc.

I came expecting to see a temple with some attractive scenery but the landscaping stole the show.   Beautiful setting.   For a beautiful temple.   

You can linger or pass through quickly.  Unlike others, this temple is just scene from outside.   No waits, shoes off etc.   

A bit of walking involved, but minimal slopes.  

Well worth the trip

The pavilion itself is stunning. We were fortunate to see it on a sunny day. The gardens are also very pretty. Not a bad little retirement home.
If you’re in Kyoto, this is a must visit.
I’m not sure why Tripadvisor has this as a hotel as it’s a tourist attraction.

This is one of the top tourist destinations in Kyoto, so yes, it's crowded. We found, however, if you take your time, you can get good views and shots. The very initial view is crowded, move around the path it is much less crowded. If you want to walk back you can. The path around is not really accessible,many steps up and down,but nothing too difficult. Worth your time. 

Golden Pavilion House is an absolute must to see. The garden is amazing, I have never seen such a nice place like this before! 
You should bring your camera to take plenty of photos of the temples and parts of the garden.

This protected park and path will certainly make you curious to know how the temple looks like from the interior. Is it golden also? You should come to Kyoto and to this picturesque place.
You will never forget how an gold building looks like.

Stunning Japanese gardens, excellent photo opportunities around every corner.  Can be busy though.  Only place in Japan I was bitten by mosquitoes but it is because of the pinds.  Some of our group had the tea ceremony and really enjoyed it

If you are in Kyoto - you must visit this spiritual place! Firstly guest house, it was converted into Zen temple surrounded by awesome garden. Unbelievably beautiful! Red Maples, monumental stones, zigzagging paces - all works together. 

Once again, an area steeped in history and on the tourist track whilst visiting Japan.  Expect large crowds, however, it is most enjoyable walking through the magnificent gardens and waterways.  The Golden Pavilion is a photographer's dream, and the area incorporates three distinct architectural styles, Shinden, Samurai and Zen.  This is not a hotel.

The Golden Pavilion is a Zen temple and a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the 2 floors covered entirely in thin layers of pure gold. The site is set within a beautiful classical Zen garden that is so amazing. Although you are not able to go inside the Pavilion we enjoyed our time wondering around this amazing building and garden.

We got here really early at opening time. I think the ideal time would have been 10 am.  Not many individuals but so many school children……..hundreds! They were all very well behaved though.
So viewing without crowds is a problem . This temple is a must. Very majestic surrounded by a pond full of huge carp.  So one goes with the flow and walks around the temple and it’s done in about an hour.

Top of the list.

Beautiful site.  And see a pretty temple from across a small lake.

Fabulous temple

Definitely worth visiting when you are in Kyoto, probably the most interesting place to visit and see.  You should visit the pond garden with the golden pavilion.  The centre of this is a garden.  The rocks were donated by various lords during the period it was built.  This garden is listed as a national special historic spot.  It was scenic beauty.

Worth a Visit

Even though the weather was bad, it could not stop us from enjoying a treasure from Kyoto’s past. The golden temple gets its name from the stunning gold leaf covering.
Set by the shores of a magnificently sculptured lake and garden it is a must see in this area. 
It is very popular so visiting early or late in the day is probably best.

Excellent setting for a magnificent temple

Difficult photo ops due to the masses of people, and slow moving groups through the garden paths around the temple water pond. The grounds are beautiful though. The parking is very tight. We spend about an 1 1/2 hour here, mainly fighting the crowds.  No one is enable to go in or approach the temple.

Beautiful  place to visit.

Of all the shrines and temples I visited in Japan, this was by far the most beautiful. Set in traditional Japanese grounds and surrounded by a lake, it is so striking.
There is a walkway around the outside of the pavilion, so there's plenty of opportunities to take some nice photos.
The rest of the walk through the grounds is nice too, with some surprising features to be seen.
A great day out and easy to access via the 204 bus from town.

The most breathtaking.

Beautiful gardens lend themselves to a nice walk amongst the crowds an school kids.  Walking is easy and the pavilion is pretty spectacular in the full sun.

It is somewhere you should visit if only for the local cultural significance.  Just remember to be polite and wait your turn.
