Don't recognize the reviews from some of those that stayed here, clearly from the Aristocracy. It's a great place to stay !. Been here so many times and am back again in November this year so am looking forward to this lovely spot by the river...fantastic !

Great place to stay, ;love it here so friendly

I have been trying for the last 4 months to persuade either Booking.Com or Bord Failte to take my complaint on board regarding the owner of this property.  

We arrived (2 couples) late in the evening for our planned 2-night stay at River Lodge at the end of June this year.  To say that we were momentarily left speechless at the disgusting offer of accommodation presented to us at the end of a day travelling from Cork, would be an understatement!!

I can relate to all of the complaints detailed by disappointed holidaymakers below and can add to the list of reasons why we decided that the dirty, scruffy and dreary accommodation was unacceptable.  Even the prospect of trying and perhaps failing to find alternative accommodation at 10.30pm, we could not be persuaded to remain another minute in this 'shabby hostel'.  The owner insisted that she was 3 star Bord Failte approved and that this was the standard she has offered to us!!! We felt totally insulated that she thought we would accept this totally horrible excuse for a bed and breakfast and told her we were leaving.
I was totally astounded that the owner proceeded to use my credit card details to charge me for 1 night's accommodation for 4 people.  I complained to her directly, also to Booking.Com and to Bord  Failte and to date this woman has been allowed to, in my opinion, steal money from my account for a contract she broke by offering a totally substandard product.  How does she get away with it!!!!!

HORRENDOUS - Payment taken from my account  even though we refused to stay

It's a lovely place to park behind the house, W-Lan, depending on the age of the phone. Great location, in the morning in 5-10 minutes to see the sea around sunrise. In a few minutes at the first pub. Bathroom small but clean.

It's perfectly fine for one night.

Booked a room here for one night for 4 adults (my mother and 2 sisters) When we arrived the first thing you notice is how drab and shabby the place is. But it is only for one night and we hadn't seen the room yet, so we were hopeful!  On walking up the creaky dangerous stairs (one in particular feels like its going to fall through) we are led to our room.  You  could write your name on the dusty shelves!  If that wasn't enough to put us off, seeing a double bed and a single bed for 4 adults wasn't impressive!  The owner mumbled that she got the dates wrong, but not to worry she would solve the problem of a missing bed.  She brought in a mattress, I asked was there a base? and she went on to say it was so comfortable, yes a mattress on the floor! I told her it was too low so she brought in an extra one to put on top. Tea and Coffee facilities were on the landing for all guests not in each room.
Next morning we had a cooked breakfast, I wouldn't' say a full Irish but it was ok.  Anyhow on checking out, the host never asked was everything ok, or was the mattress on the floor comfortable, possibly afraid of my answer.  And to top it all was charged full price which was actually more expensive than the B&B we spent our 2nd night in, which was so much better.  
This B&B is more like a hostel with hotel prices.  Not reccommended!

Extremely Disappointing!

My family and I stayed at the River lodge for one night, which was one night too many. After traveling a long day we ended up there, there is not a positive thing to say. It was filthy, disgusting, horrific, I could go on and on with these kind of adjectives. The accommodations were freighting. The towels from hanging over the river to dry were like sandpaper, there was mold in the room, and the basic necessity for hot water in the shower did not exist. Wifi is unavailable in the room and we had to sit in the corner of the dining room to get it. Speaking of the dining room it was also disgusting. The table clothes were sticky. The cereal containers were absolutely disgusting, and inside the container the cereal was stale. The toaster looks like it's never been cleaned. Just an over all terrible breakfast. Take head DO NOT stay here! Extremely over priced for the less than subpar accommodations. Don't believe the 8.4 rating on the window it's a lie.

Horrific 

We had booked a one night stay after reading good reviews whilst touring Ireland, but were somewhat disappointed in comparison to other places in which we stayed.  The room, while not grubby, had an air of neglect and gloom, and there were traces of dampness in the bathroom and cupboards.  The television reception was very poor.  There seemed to be no lounge facilities.  Breakfast was so-so, again in comparison with other similarly rated places.  All in all I could not recommend this place.  There was a notice in the hall indicating that the business was moving to a new location, so perhaps the place was running down prior to the move.  Hopefully they will fare better there!

Disappointing

Very nice and cozy structure. Large and comfortable room. Good breakfast with some food (marmalade and excellent bread) prepared at home. Small library available to guests. Nice and with a lot of sense of humor the owner Patricia Chr will gladly give you advice on the best restaurants in the area and places to visit.

Nice b&b

If you are looking for a b&b near the sea and welcoming don't hesitate! The owner is very friendly and dynamic, she will be able to point you to the other restaurants and pubs in the city.

A coquette and sweet b&b

The room was a little small but very clean, with a fountain and a boiler in the room, all in essential but functional style.

Very good.

We arrived at this bed and breakfast by chance and were overwhelmed by this accommodation - both by the owners and by the accommodation.
