I get this out of the way right at the start: true, the hotel is somewhat dated, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a negative. I loved my recent stay at the Media Hotel, transported back a bit in time to when the world was a better and more stable place than what it is today. The room was clean and super spacious and had two panorama windows with great views. It is obvious that when the hotel was built, I guess twenty odd years or so ago, no expenses were spared and only high quality material was used. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly, the pool on L6 was excellent with an amazing sunset view across town and the Media Lounge was a great place to wind down with a drink. There was even a live band the other night, that deserved more audience than it got, very entertaining! The morning buffet breakfast was amazing, one of the best I ever got in any SE Asian city hotel, and I have visited quite a few by now. This hotel is an excellent choice for a Jakarta visit, even within walking distance to the old Dutch town centre of Batavia, should you feel that way inclined (about 30 minutes). I recommend a taxi back though, :-), just about 20 K.
