From checking in till I left, I had a series of problems with the service. I had to ask for hot water, and the receptionist said he will switch it on (why would they not automatically do this on checking in?). They gave me a room that was apparently in someone else's name, so people who called for me, and someone who came to meet me, were all told I was not there even when I was sitting in the room! Language: I can understand that much of the staff won't speak English, but surely at the desk they need to have someone who can understand and speak it fluently ... I had a hard time getting my points across. They even attempted to charge me for breakfast (which was sent up in a tin foil, and was cold), though my booking clearly said 'free breakfast' ... apparently because of the same problem of booking me into the wrong room. And for 2 out of 3 days I was there, the wifi did not work.

Good room, poor service

Good for visa purposes travel, they provide free transport to embassy, rooms are ok, excellent service especially the front office people..nice eating places nearby..will certainlly choose this hotel also next time..

If you are going with family please avoid this hotel.
1.We checked in to the hotel and the went to the room.It was so shoking to see three separate single beds two which is suitable only for the three bachelors.
Bathrooms were so small.
Dont talk about the room.It is pretty small and no windows or anything.Ac was in but of no use.
Worst part is the room allocated was big room which was separated by locked door.
Then when we complained in reception and asked to change room after arguing.I told them the picture is different from the actial rooms.They clearly mentioned that the rooms for booking through websites is of this type only and when we book direcly it is nice.
The other room they give was also similar type but since we had a long drive we stayed there.
When we asked for Fan the room service still arranged for the same which was picked up from a age old place with lot of dust.
Parking was also bad l.We had to wait 20 min just to get our car out since it was blocked.
We changed the hotel by calling Make my trip and since we cancelled after check in it was a huge loss.
No star for this hotel and it is no way a star hotel.


Worst Experience

We were advised by travel agent that it is a three star property well located . Location is good and that we could ourselves check on the internet . However , the rooms and bathroom are badly maintained and dirty . The breakfast was shoddy - they could not even serve a decent tamilian breakfast considering it’s in chennai . Staff is not trained at all . We even had a bellboy unlocking our room door whilst we were in the room sleeping . He could not open it as we had locked it from
Inside with the key ( that was the only way to lock from inside) . So he used the master key to get in and then claimed it was a mistake . Obviously if a room is not opening from
Inside , it must be occupied . And if he had doubts , he could check the room occupancy register ! All in all , this place is not advisable and would not even be termed safe especially for women travellers .

Good place and they offer complimentary food as well for breakfast but if ur a foodie,the breakfast offered isn't sufficient..
U can buy other things to eat and they aren't over priced and they do taste good!

Good

As many reviewers have mentioned, the location is the only unique selling point of this hotel/apartment.  It is 5 mins walking distance to Music Academy which I visited during December 2017 for the music season.  The check-in was easy and the 24 hours checkin/checkout is convenient.  I was allocated a room in their Old block - the room was pretty decent with a TV, coffee maker, clean sheets and a good bed.  The room was cleaned everyday promptly.  The only issue i had is the shower cubicle, which is a 2 X 2 enclosure - a normal adult ( forget people who are big ), cannot shower in this place.  It is unimaginably Lilliputish !!!
I never bothered about their complimentary breakfast as I hogged on the lovely hot breakfast served in the Music Academy canteen.  On one instance, I tried a croissant and a cup of Hot Chocolate at Hot Breads and it was good and very decently priced.
Overall, a nice experience and as I said earlier, Location is the USP of this Hotel.

Close to Music Academy and US Consulate

This is the fourth time I stayed at Oriental Inn and I will stay only in this hotel if I visit Chennai for US Visa Interview. The room is comfortable and clean. It is really worth for the money. They provide a bottle of water everyday, newspaper, breakfast buffet and complimentary drop to the OFC and US Consulate. The staff were very friendly.The location is very convenient to visit US consulate  and has good restaurants nearby.

Value for the money

We continue to enjoy the quiet location in the heart of Chennai. The rooms are sober but comfortable. The hospitality is attentive and warm and the extreme proximity of the hotel with high-end restaurants is an asset to highlight.
