Reasonably priced hotel/guest house. 
You have to check in using a code received online.
At the time we arrived at around 18:00 the front door was not locked and after dinner it was unlocked either.
Clean rooms of reasonably good size. Facilities (shower and bathrooms) are down the corridor, we did not experience any queues, but I doubt the hotel was full at the time we were there.
Our room had good harbour view. No TV.
The hall downstairs used to be a bar and reception area. It is now left as the reception which it open for guests with reasonably comfortable chairs, but the ambiance is not really friendly, so people do not really use it and it feels deserted.
The breakfast was pretty basic, but OK.
The staff comes only for the breakfast and for cleaning. 
The staff was very friendly but did not really speak any English as they are not from Iceland either.
Free parking in front of the hotel.
The best place for a dinner, I believe, is right opposite the hotel

Well, there was no staff at all. so make sure you have a phone to call the local number provided to you. one of the phone number they send you on the email will have a wrong phone number on it. (missing a number). the rooms are quiet small but seems to be a normal for the area.

Do not like the idea of being sent a code for access. We never received any code. Hotel told us they always send out codes, but Hotels.co often do not pass them on to guests. Also sending a code by email is pointless when you are out in the hills and no Wi-Fi coverage.  Tried telephoning the hotel, to receive a message try later. Really not helpful. Transpires they do not answer phone till after 1600. Would have been helpful to know that.

Could have been better.

Only downside I didn’t get room number and code via email. Had to go to property to get info and hope someone was there. There was. He was very helpful.

Liked the location of the property and it was convenient. However booking a Mountain View and got the street view and they refused to change the room. Very poor customer service. Expedia let me know in this aspect too. They didn’t fix it, neither did they refund the money.

Our stay at the North Star was mostly positive. The room was large, very clean and comfortable. However, the shower in the bathroom is only enclosed by a shower curtain and requires you to squeegee the walls and floor off.  An example of Scandinavian minimalism. The check in process is very nerve-racking.  There is no attendant in the building, and the phone only calls to an answering machine that answered in Icelandic.  Luckily, there was a Grayline tour guide checking in at the same time as we were and she was able to navigate the phone system and connect us with someone. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise that was added after our reservation and the staff at breakfast were helpful. You have to be careful on the elevator since it didn’t match up with the floor.  The location was very convenient to the national park and Grundarfjordur.  In Olafsvik, there is a gorgeous waterfall within walking distance and you can take a whale watch. There is also a good restaurant right across the street.

Overall good

This very modern hotel requires a certain amount of autonomy and independence from the guests: when you arrive you should have received an email with room number and access code to the door of the same to enter as the reception is always open and you will only have to open the room. Unfortunately in our email only the code but not the room number so we had to call from the local at the entrance says there is a phone in addition to the instructions for access.....a little too self service for my tastes. However overcome the obstacle the room at the top floor turns out to be really small and care not to bump your head on the trashes, also there is no closet.

Check in system is inconvenient.  The room is simple but need better furniture and more lightings.  Hot drinks are available in the dining room on the first floor.  Breakfast is included.

Avoid. Lousy place.  No communication. Keyless entry codes not sent by email as per their own instructions.  No one answers the phone, responds to texts or returns calls.  When the person did answer the phone once she was very unfriendly, almost argumentative.  Worn out, blood stained linens. Rough sheets.  Uncomfortable beds. It’s as if the place is someone’s side hustle and they don’t care about it.  Or you.

We booked a room. Drove there. The lobby is empty A grimy poster says to use a code  from an e-mail to open a door to your room. An old phone is in the lobby if you need help We received no code. We got no room number. We got a pin in a booking.com confirmation. I tried that PIN at EVERY SINGLE DOOR in the building, None worked. No one answered the phone in the lobby. Called from my cell, my wife's cell and from the lobby phone. No one answered at 9:00 PM at night. We had to book a different hotel 45 min away in the darkness over a mountain. NEVER BOOK HERE.
