Probably lovely, but...
Cancelled our booking 3 months after accepting it, no reason given, just an email stating that it has been cancelled. So much for having been organised, we are now left to book elsewhere at considerably shorter notice, paying a premium to do so.

Yes, everything is not perfect but this cottage is still nice and the reception is pleasant! In French please!! There is a little dishwasher for the kitchen (potato??) but well it's the holidays! Too bad the hot tub is not working!

Nice house and comfortable cottage

We stumbled upon this unique item in the Icelandic restaurant/guesthouse sky. We were hungry and the tank had to be filled by our car. So we decided to take advantage of the rest and ordered a first-class lamb soup served with the most delicious homemade bread. There are homemade organic pasta - the only one in Iceland - and craftsmanship. There is still good music around it.;-) You can feel the owner loves what he does. Top tip!

It's delicious and good.

Of course, not everything is perfect, several reviews say so. The double bed is narrow, but as there are also 2 metal overlay beds (basic, holiday colony style...), we can sleep in three with each one having his own bed in proper comfort. And we could, in our room anyway, use the shower without flooding anything. The housekeeping is a little limited too (a lot of dust under the bed).

A side of Baghdad Café to the north...

We got a four bed room with a bathroom that had no heating. Can you imagine that on Iceland. There was mold on the corners and the shower curtain was shady. There were no glasses in room so we took some from the restaurant ... they were not clean. Seeing other places to stay on our round trip we should avoid this at all cost.

Terrible bathroom

Me and my sister were going to visit family last christmas, but due to weather conditions, we had to stay in Hreðavatnsskáli for one night. 

It was super cheap, clean and friendly. Nothing extravagant, just what it says on the tin. I liked it very much. In the restaurant they played deep purple if I remember right.  

My ONLY criticism, is that coffee should ALWAYS have a free refill. ;) 

I would definitely reccomend this place.

Friendly, clean, GREAT!

The owner looked like he was put there by the police because he did a triple murder. Not only because of the looks but because of his reactivity. No wifi or tv in the room and nothing to do around except to go up a crater. The toilet had a weird smell and the bed was super uncomfortable. I wouldn't pay more than 15€ in Europe for this, but here it is 80. That is Iceland.

At least the heating works.

PS: they have a coffee machine at 3.5€ per coffee. You can imagine how good is the coffee...

Road hotel you want to avoid

we came here on a small tour to visit the crater and had the most lovely dinner! The lamb soup was out of this world and the spaghetti hit the spot. We loved the laid back feel of this restaurant and the owner Mathieu was so accommodating and great. The Pink Floyd music playing in the back ground was icing on the cake!

Loved our dining experience here!

I saw an TV visit to this place that triggered my decision as a tour guide to bring my passengers to lunch at this place. Under lovely tones from Pink Floyd, which is the only music plaid at this place, everyone had an excellent lunchtime. It took the operator, who is from Holland,  3 months to learn to pronounce the name of the place. He puts the same effort in preparing his home made courses on the menu.

Jewellery behind the volcano 

After traveling for several weeks in a hostel without major problems, we arrived east where we were taken by a nasty surprise: there was no kitchen, which is normally common in this type of accommodation, and we could not use it. There is nothing to eat and buy around and the place is secluded and secluded. The volunteers who work there are excellent. Not so with the manager or manager.
