We rented the flat on the top floor and it fitted our needs perfectly. There was absolutely nothing more we could have wished for.
The landlord was exceedingly helpful, the flat itself is comfortable with a big wonderful veranda with a spectacular view.

Highly recommended.

Ideally located very close to the long and very pleasant beach of Schinias, the rental is located in a residential area, quiet, with a very beautiful view. We stayed on site 15j in August and we had chosen to rent the 2 floors of this villa separated by the apartment of the owner Mr Xenophon. The reception and relationship with the owner were more than perfect. The impeccable cleanliness and the 2 apartments perfectly maintained and equipped and in accordance with the description.

It's perfect.

The first week of May 2012 we went to Greece, my family and my sisters, a total group of 8. A few weeks before, we found the Villa Moon Ray, an attractive looking villa with enough room for 9.
The fun started with the pleasant email conversations with the owner Xenophon and his site manager Rosa. We had contact on regularly basis about the preparations for our trip. Rosa even called the car rental company to ensure that every thing was in order.

On our arrival day, it was a bit cloudy but nice and warm. Rosa awaited us at the villa and showed us around. She was very relaxed, what gave us a good feeling right away. She took the time to tell us about sites to visit, taverna's were we could eat, the best places on the beach and so on. We could always call her to ask for something, she was always nearby to be of service. 

The villa is a very nice stay, airconditioned (however, we didn't need that in May), nicely tiled terrace with wonderful views, and nice places in the shade were we could have our breakfast and meals. The villa is divided into three appartments, we rented the top one with marvelous view, with two bedrooms and 3, possible 4 beds, and the bottom appartment with room enough for 5 people. Both have nice kitchens with dish washer, electric stove, toaster etc.. 
Both appartments are connected with stairs, the upper appartment had an own parking space, with a very steep road leading to it. Very comfortable for carying your luggage in and out. 

The second day we met Stavros, Rosa's husband. He told us some more about all the historic sites and other trips we could make. He seemed very knowledgable about Greek history, in a way he could connect historic events, myths and sites into a beautiful story. So we asked him along on a hiking trip. We went on a ferry to Nea Styra, and from there a ride on the island, both tarmac and dirt roads. Beautiful views, mountains, see view, a dragon house and much more. Then we hiked alongside a river into a gorge area, were we had a swim in the very cold water with waterfalls and wild streams. Very nice, especially for the kids who never had a better day. After the swim, we went to a remote taverna, were we ate some home made Greek specialities, never heard of before and tasting very nice. The price was also good. During the trip Stavros showed us the nice places and told lots of stories, that helped us also on other trips.

The Schinias / Marathon area is nice and a bit remote, with enough taverna's at a few minutes drive, a small and very local convenient store and nice beaches. The nearby Marathon village has a nice and cheap souvlaki restaurant with tables on the small agora. Trips to Mycene, Athens or Delphi can be made by car, these are day trips because of the distance. Roads are quite good and the sign also. However, knowing the Greek alphabeth will help you a lot.

For us a perfect place to stay with 5 kids and 3 adults and we will try to return to that marvellous place with very welcoming people.

Relaxing stay in Schinias, Greece

We stayed here April for a week 2010 then were stranded for another 10 days thanks to the ash cloud- how fortuanate!!
We had our two youngest children with us 4 and 9. The apartment is not really suitable for 4- the bedroom is very crowded with 2 beds in it- with 2 small children it was not a problem however with teenagers or adults it would be. It is fine for 3 adults or teenagers,

It is very nicely furnished and the beds are comfortable.

The views are magnificent. You really need a car- there is no where to go without a car even a resturant or the beach.
Rosa was lovely and helpful although to be very honest our overall experience was somewhat spoilt when she was very irrate about us losing the visitors book. After some frantic 20 minutes of searching our daughter found it under her bed which admitely it should not have been but the 20 minutes it took to discover it were very uncomfortable and our daughter was accused of defacing the book and then destroying it- she was in tears for some 3 hours afterwards, not a good end to the holiday!
Also it was annoying when we were refused a receipt for our additional 10 days- the owner said he was doing it as a favour- we paid $700 euros- this is far less than the £1k weekly charge but still not an insignificant amount, we therefore could not make a claim on our insurance. The owner is a very nice person however!
Would we stay here again- probably not- the lack of nearby eating and drinking places would be a negative factor and also we could not stand the interrogation if anything should go missing again!

fabulous views and wonderful owners

The Villa Moon Ray comprises two separate apartments: the 75 sq m, penthouse-style Sky Suite where we stayed, and the 134 sq m MoonRay suite on the ground floor. The villa is situated about 50 km from Athens, but with the peace and tranquillity of its location, overlooking a national park and the Aegean Sea, it seems far away from the hustle and bustle of the Greek metropolis. The villa is actually in a semi-secure estate called 'Themis', apparently built for the benefit of Greek judges and attorneys, but it doesn't really have any sort of estate feel to it, as the houses are scattered around the hillsides without any feeling of privacy being compromised.

The Sky Suite has a modern, well-designed feel to it. The main bedroom is a good size with plenty of wardrobe space and the air-con is quiet and efficient.  The second bedroom is single-sized. The open plan living room is comfortable and there's a small flat-screen TV and DVD player. Kitchen facilities are excellent. Wi-fi is available. The really outstanding feature of the suite is the huge, circular-fronted terrace which gets sun from dawn to dusk and is perfect for sunbathing, eating, BBQing, or simply chilling out.

The estate has a convenience store about a 5 min drive from the villa which stocks most basics. Further afield there are a number of supermarkets, the best being 'My Market' in Marathon village, which is a 10 min drive. Local 'meat' tavernas are a 5 min drive:  'Paradeisos' being the best, with a friendly owner who speaks good English and a more imaginative menu, including a delicious salad of rocket, cherry tomatoes and parmesan with a honey mustard dressing. The local 'fish' tavernas on the Schinias beach are a mixed bag and pricey, with fresh fish averaging at 50 euros a kilo. Wines in the local tavernas tend to be limited to the local white or red (at 3 - 5 euro per litre), but those at the Marathon tavernas included some bottled wines which were mediocre and expensive. It's probably easier just to go with the flow and consume the local brew!

The villa owner Xenophon is extraordinarily helpful and goes out of his way to smooth the arrangements for your stay. His local manager, Rosa, is no less helpful and is always available to help if anything needs sorting out. 

Trips into Athens are probably best done on the metro. This runs roughly half-hourly from a station at Pallini which is on the main road from the airport to Marathon. The journey into Athens costs just one euro and one passes through vast, cathedral-like stations, which makes the London underground seem poor value and just plain dingy. 

All in all, Villa Moon Ray is a perfect place for a relaxing week in the Greek sun; it's really  like being on a more remote island but without the hassle of ferries to and from the mainland.
