We spent six nights at Auenwald Pension and, overall, enjoyed our stay. The layout is one we haven't come across before. The rooms are in pairs, so you use a key to enter an area where there are two rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. It would be ideal for a family. Your room key opens this door as well as the door from the street, which leads into a passage to the garden, and another door to the building itself if it is late at night. It seems to be one of the most secure lodgings we have stayed in. Through the kitchen there is a balcony overlooking the garden.

One negative point is that the beds were rather flimsy. The first time I sat on mine, it collapsed. On investigation it had obviously been broken before, and, though I managed to put it back together, I dared not try sleeping on it, so swapped with my wife, who is about half my weight. We reported the problem next day and they did seem to fix it while we were out, but I still kept my wife's bed to be sure it didn't happen again.

On the positive side, the WiFi worked well, TV had at least one English channel (CNN), there was enough space to hang clothes and, best of all, we had a well-equipped kitchen, so we cooked a lot of meals rather than eating out all week. There are good markets around, and an Aldi supermarket is about five minutes walk from the guest house. It was nice to have a fridge, which meant we could keep wine and juice as well as food. 

Another thing we liked was the cherry tree in the garden, from which we were welcome to pluck whatever we could reach. 

The shared bathroom was no problem. We had the whole area to ourselves the first night, then neighbours the rest of the week, two men who spoke no English, but were friendly and very considerate in making sure we had full access to the bathroom and kitchen. 

Location is not too bad, though it seems a poor area. The fifteen minute tram ride was convenient enough, and we did enjoy taking a walk into the city one morning, though it took a couple of hours.

If we ever returned to the wonderful musical city of Leipzig, we would certainly want to stay at this accommodation again.

Worth staying here for the kitchen

The rooms are huge. We had a twin bedroom and a double bedroom in our apartment. It was all spotlessly clean. The lounge had a large flat screen TV, the bathroom/shower was very smart as was the kithchen. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evening overlooking the garden area which is full of mature trees. The little cafe on the corner at the bottom of the road provides excellent breakfasts and good coffee. The manager was very helpful and spoke good English.
The number 7 tram stops 100metres away and it only takes 15 mins to get into the centre.

I spent a 3-day-short break in Leipzig and stayed here. The location is quite far from the city, so once I go out, no time to go back and forth from city center to the hostel, it takes approx. 16 minutes to reach city center. So I prefer to get ready to spend the whole day outside without going back to hostel.
The hostel is less than 100 meter from Tram stop.

Per night, it costs me 30 Euro which is pretty good deal, as I travel alone, and single room in the city center would costs a lot higher. 

I book a double room (this hostel filled up quickly, I almost ran out a room, I had booked it prior 2 weeks before my arrival). There is a shared bathroom and kitchen with another double room, so it's 2 double rooms with shared kitchenette. It's very nice in my opinion. I recommend it if you plan to stay longer in Leipzig. The kitchenette pretty modern and new. They providing you kitchen utensils. I bought groceries from nearest supermarket and cook for breakfast and dinner, so I save a lot, without having meals at resataurant.
This hostel absolutely for a budget travel, less price without sacrificing a comfort of its guest.

Free Wi-Fi is a plus, I love it, and it's fast.

But I don't like is, they don't have a lift. I carried large bag and many heavy stuffs, it's quite a problem for me, as my room is in 2 floor.

Pleasant stay, love the kitchenette!

Up 3 flights of stairs (no lift)!
No double beds!  4 of 1.5 beds, but no way to make them doubles.  
Requested booking for 2 people, but got (and had to pay for) booking for 4.  (As it is a pension, we just assumed that it would be the same whether we were 2 or 4.)  Apparently not possible to book for 2 on the Net.  
With its kitchen and bathroom (with bath!), it would be better for a longer stay.  Free Internet.
Easy tram access to town (but €2.20 per ticket; i.e. virtually €10 a time for a visit for two).
Patrons are trying hard, but it may not be what everyone wants.

OK if you know what you're getting

Spent a few days in Leipzig with the family for a short break.  Really liked this apartment.  All refurbished new with modern fittings.  Plenty of space for the children to play.  Well equipped kitchen, bathroom etc.  A nice garden but didn't really have a chance to use it.  Lots of stairs if you're on an upper floor so best request a lower one if you have a lot of luggage.  Plenty of parking on the street.
Location a couple of minutes from the tram stops and about 15 minutes to get into town - really easy.  Quite a leafy neighbourhood close to the Auenwald park, a little run down in places but not threatening.  Not too many restaurants nearby, one or two in immediate walking distance, a couple of supermarkets, for breakfast though the hosts gave us a voucher for 2 brotchens and coffee at a local corner cafe, I think 3 Euros each which was in fact lovely.
