Camping Sitaba Lodge

The camping is very good value although as are the well designed lodge rooms that come equipped with comfortable beds, mosquito nets and fans. The eating area is also very pleasant and there are well priced drinks and food available.

There are extra charges (hot showers/WiFi/kitchen usage etc.) but that didn't bother me. It keeps the base cost much lower. The owners are very friendly and know a lot about the local area and what there is to do. During my time there, there seemed to be quite a lot of return visitors. I can see why.

Joe and Claudia have advice for every question you have to solve as Overlander or Backpacker in West Africa. 

After 12 months overlanding it was a pleasure to visit a place where everything is in place orderly and properly working. Outside shower is perfect. Toilets are clean. Place is shady. Wlan is working. Visa card is working (!) 

People are friendly and helpful. You can buy bread and other stuff just round the corner. The two have been travveling themselves so they have lots of good advise. 

They have a good mechanic too which is able to find every piece for your car you need within hours and does a really good and reliable job. We came for 1 night and stayed 7. That says it all....

Clean, very friendly and reliable. We stood here for three days of our overlanding trip. Was really pleasant to have a place for doing laundry 👌🏽. The camp offers a clean self-service kitchen. They also organize amazing baguette, if you order it a night in advance. Would come here any time again when back in The Gambia.

Quiet, clean and cosy place in The Gambia. Nice hosts. Wonderfull room and restaurant. Good atmosphere. Realy enjoyed my Stay. Good Prize. Great place for adventurers and travellers with a camper. The rooms are great.

We have stopped here as part of our overland tour of Africa.  The site is clean and well maintained with nice pitches for your camping car.  The owners are very friendly and helpful.  Highly recommended.

Claudia and Joe are very professional. I was in Sukuta Camping three times and left there my camping car for several months. I had it guarded and serviced in a very good way. Camping is very clean and pleasant with its beatiful garden. Staff is very efficient, and can provide airport service at any time. Next month I'm planning to come back again.

I have just stayed here for 3 nights before travelling to Bansang and then again for one night before flying back to England with a group of 10 scouts and leaders camping, fantastic secure site, free showers, food/drinks on site. We would definitely stay here again.

Don’t stay here. So much you have to pay for that should be free. Sure you can have a shower included...but if you want hot water you have to pay more on top of that!

WiFi is also not free and you pay for how many nights you use it. So if you’re staying 4 nights and only want it for one night you’d have to wait until the last night of your stay to us it.

Owner is rude too.

Money grabbing at every opportunity

We had a rather unpleasant stay – to say the least. We came there to sell our car.  Joe approched us with the belitteling term „Mädles“ (little girls) to start our business conversation and kept on giving vague answers to our questions. Joe presented himself to us as a relentless profiteer, and exploitative business partner. He warned us not to go to the locals, which we luckily found out was the far better option to sell the car.  PLEASE DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH SUKUTA CAMPING!
Our suspicions about SUKUTA CAMPING were confirmed even more when we overheard a conversation with their local colleagues (german and gambian) during breakfast. Joe and Claudia were talking mainly in German and utilised the language in order to make jokes and rude remarks over the heads of the two gambian men (like they were „fat“, „might have forgotten their deo today“ and „their brains don't work in the way you would expect it“). The shamelessness was shocking and appaling. Sexism and racism seems to be normalized on Sukuta Camping and you will notice this not only in the specific experiences we had, but also in the whole atmosphere of the camping. When  we decided to talk to them personally, they were dismissive and didn't show any comprehension of the inacceptability of their behaviour.
