A really well located campsite on the beach between Narbonne Plage and Gruissan.  Traffic free cycle paths to both towns. Clean modern facilites that are well maintained. Pleasant and helpful staff in reception and around site. Well stocked site Mini Market.

If you are looking for a reasonable priced camping pitch, you should go to this place. 
There is a lot to do for younger kids such as a family swimming pool with a waterslide. The only down side is that the beach is quite a walk away if you have to carry your beers and chair 😁

Camping site near the beach 

We had a fab time here for a week in August. The mobile home was small but had most essentials, although they did insist on a 300 euro deposit & very in depth inventory which is not fun after hours of travelling. Checking in on a Saturday evening is a bit of a long wait but that's the busiest day of the week. Staff were friendly overall. We loved the space between the homes, so the kids could play boules nearby or at the pétanque area too (handily next to the shared BBQ area). We hired a bbq grill for 3euros a night and kept it for three nights which was not a problem. Onsite shop was limited but fine for a few essentials and fresh goodies in the morning. The water slides and pool were great for my 6&8 year olds, and we had plenty of space, although it was late in the season. If you want to make English friends then this isn't for you, as mainly French campers, but it wasn't an issue for us. The beach nearby is a ten min walk and very vast and flat, but we went down to La Franqui plage, which is great for families and also Port Leucate is fab for oyster lovers. everything is a short drive but gruissan village is lovely with a few bars and restaurants and the marina is nice too for a wander around. Market at Narbonne is fun on a Thursday if you want a change of scene, the indoor food one is lovely. All in all a great week.

Spacious and fun

Very surprised by other reviews, as a couple in a family campsite,could not have been happier! Very inclusive for all ages& nationalities!xnlt security all hours..cleaning etc always going on..fab showers..family showers...Wifi in bar only..good shop and late food at bar..nightly/daily entertainments did not disturb us!!!This area is stunningly beautiful and relatively crowd free compared to other side of the med...Gate from site onto beach takes you to an unspoilt area with a 5-10 min walk to Narbonne plage proper...cyclists heaven with lanes everywhere on flat ground (also mountain rides) means it's safe to ride with kids/at night etc and easy to get around -5-8mins to Narbonne.by car 20mins to gruisson,45mins to carcassone and rennes le chateau..Barcelona is less than 100km away!!surrounded by la clape mountains,explore those vineyards esp le chateau negly...also if u want to practice French it'll be hard as lack of English people here means everyone will want to talk to you!!loved it and going back

excellent campsite for all,great location,facilities with friendly service that goes beyond the norm!!

The campsite is amazing. We espicially loved the layout, which was catered towards pedestrians. We had a nice cottage with seaview in the quiet end of the campsite, which is great when you have children.

The bad thing about the campsite though, is that no one speaks english except the the receptionist. When in the mediocre restaurant (menus only in french) is hard to order when they do not understand or are able to explain what the menu says. Its ok that they do not understand but when they get visiably irritabel and angry because you do not speak the language (we tried a little and used google translate on the menus before trying to order) its not ok.

Entertainment is only in french, pool games are only in french and the kidsclub is only in french.

The overall experience is only at 3 stars as the language barrier os to noticeable.

We wish we would have known beforehand that this is a french campsite only, then we would have chosen otherwise.


Not for none french speaking tourists

For our 2013 summer holiday we went to Campeole's campsite at Excenevex-Plage on Lake Geneva, which we thoroughly enjoyed and so for this year we thought that we would go with the same company but this time head to the South of France.

At 820 miles from home to site (completed in less than two days via overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen) it was a long way to tow a caravan, but to put things into context we drove from Caen to Noarbonne-Plage in under 12 hours (600 miles), which I didn't think was that bad. Certainly, the French motorways are excellent: well-maintained and not that busy.

When we arrived at the site (at 7pm on the Sunday) our initial pitch was in lightly wooded part of the site and quite shaded, but the immediate problem was that the electricity hook-up point was about 30+ metres from our pitch. Our hook-up cable wouldn't reach so I drove to reception (the pitch was a good 5-minute walk from reception) to see if they could lend us an extension or find another pitch. We settled on the latter and the new pitch was much more open and very close to the pool. It was also close to the marquee in which the daily 'animations' (activities) took place.

As you can see from the photo of our pitch it was very generous -- as most pitches were -- but it was a much less 'polished' site compared to other French 3-star sites and certainly compared to last year's site. This site has a 3-star rating, but I think that the company needs to do quite a bit of general maintenance to really justify its rating. Part of the reason for the slightly down-at-heel feeling was due to the fact that until 3 years ago it was a municipal site and clearly there are still some indications of this (that said, we have stayed on some excellent municipal sites in France, so don't assume that I am linking the nature of the site with the quality of the general state of such sites).

Having said all that, the pool (with slide) was well maintained and had lifeguards on duty all day; the shower unisex shower and toilet blocks were modern and spotlessly clean, and the dish-washing area was also very clean. The on-site shop stocked a good range of essentials, but there was an Intermarche Super supermarket about 5 minutes by car (towards Gruissan). The receptionists were very friendly, but there was an on-going issue with WiFi (not free) only working intermittently.

The security guards at the main entrance were also very friendly and when I drove in and out of the site on my own they would generally open the barriers for me (rather than me having to get out of the car and rush round to type in the access code and drive through before the barrier drops).

The location of the site was also excellent. It was about a 10-minute walk to fabulous sandy beaches (no jellyfish) and you could drive to the beautiful city of Narbonne (16km from the site). There are many chateaux to visit and being in a wine-growing region there are numerous places to buy wine directly from the producers. There was a cycle lane that you could pick up from the site and you could easily cycle to the local towns of Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan (the site being about half way between these towns).

In the grand scheme of things the site was good (again, I can't give a 'good' rating due to TripAdvisor's rating options) and it is in a fabulous region. The weather is generally hot -- around 30C -- but you do get thunderstorms every 5-6 days (but that does give you the chance to have days out for exploring). The main problem was being so close to the activity centre and some nights there was a disco (until 11pm) but nothing that we experienced ruined the holiday.

In summary, I wouldn't rush back to the site but I would return to the area. I feel that Campeole needs to invest in the site to fully justify the 3-star rating. If you want a quiet site then you should ask for a pitch well away from the animations, but if you want a bit more luxury then you'd be better off with another site.

My final point is that despite the discos (every Sunday) there was never any trouble. There was some shouting and singing, but no yobbery whatsoever. And as with French society in general there is no real division between the ages, which you could see most days on the very well-maintained petaque pithces where old-timers and pre-teens were playing side-by-side.

Could do better, Campeole!

The location is good between Gruissan and Narbonne plage with good cycle path, The beach is about 10 minutes from the site. The beach is at the end of Narbonne Plage - about 25 mins walk along the beach. As a couple without kids,    I cant review the activities  for the younger guests. The shop on site, was poorly stocked and expensive. As we were in a motorhome, we had to cycle to Narbonne plage or Gruisson for meat and fish. The amount and variety  of fruit and veg decreased as the week progressed.
The restaurant and bar were expensive and had very little choice, € 6 for a beer is acceptable in the Champs de Elysee in Paris , but not   in a 3 star campsite in the south of France , The star were poorly trained and would spend 5 minutes looking for a glass. This is the first campsite i have been in France, that didn't want you  to s[end money. The site we were allocated A campsite of this site with about 20 seats in a sociable area, is unusual with a captive audience.The security at the site was very visible in evening. Overall the location was good, the site was secure and clean, with  good shade in some areas, A bit more effort would make this a site to return
