The owner was very friendly and reserved somewhere for dinner for me which was really good, but the room was a bit basic given the price. Breakfast was self-service, but was excellent. The view of the mountains from the rooms was amazing. It was only a 2 minute walk to the high street. 

Good location, rooms a bit basic

We were booked in here by the Jardins d Heva who had 'a plumbing problem' (and offered us a free dinner to compensate, so all good). By luck, we were offered two upstairs rooms. The view, when the fog lifted, was magnificent. It rained heavily during the night and the number of visible waterfalls seemed to double! The rooms were, to be polite, eclectic - virgin Mary meets Budha and everything in between. The entire establishment reeked of cheap paint. We did not stay for breakfast... 

Saved by the view

When we booked the room in March the place was still called "Hotel/Restaurant" and not B&B with 5 or 6 rooms, which it actually is - still, we payed the price for a hotel that we have expected :-(. The main problem is that the place advertise things that are simply not true or highly exaggerated. Some examples:
 
* The Internet does not work (there were 10 different networks and none of them worked - and we tried different devices on different days). 
* Also, on our booking conformation stated that paying by credit card is possible - which it wasn't. 
* Furthermore, the conformation said that we booked a room with view of the mountain - if we looked out of the windows we would either see a wall or the public terrace, but no mountain from the room.  
* They advertise free care products - in fact is is a tiny piece of soap (really I don't care about this, but if you advertise it particularly, hmm...)
* The reception is only opened from 15.00 to 21.00 - from a so called hotel I'd expect at least somebody being there in the morning. When somebody spilled the milk in the microwave while breakfast, the guests had to search the houses private rooms for finding something to clean up.

The staff/owners were friendly in the beginning, but then they changed quite dramatically. Just upon arrival we payed the room in cash, and then after 10 minutes the lady came knocking at our door and heavily discussed with us in French and was literally in our room. The other guy, who spoke little English, tried to translate but we just could not understand what the issue was. They brought us again to the reception and tried to explain through Google Translate - apparently they wanted us to pay 10 euros more, but it was just impossible to understand why (and our English is excellent and we even understand a tiny little French). They both - especially the lady - shouted at us and discussed heavily in French for at least 20 minutes. We never found out what was going on there, but from this moment on, they never spoke a word with us during our entire stay. 

The breakfast was just a joke - it consisted of old baguette and one croissant per person. If one of the guest ate more, there was literally nothing left for others (yes, this really happened to one couple), as the amount was just too few for the guests. Also, nobody was there, so the juice, butter, confiture, etc was in the fridge and you had to warm the milk in the microwave and the coffee was obviously prepared the evening before. So if you like coffee that has been warmed up for 10 hours, you're quite right here... 

As the internet did not work at our place we had to go to a real hotel (Le Relais Des Cimes) nearby that has nearly the same prices as the L'OrchideeRose, but with staff that speaks at least some English, they have a proper restaurant and bar, a real reception and functioning internet. 
Usually I am very forgiving with places if they have a decent value for the money, but for this place I would recommend not staying there - especially not for people with limited French skills. And anywhere else in Reunion (and even in cheaper houses) we never experienced that level of unfriendliness.

No value for your money - better go to a real hotel nearby

Location is OK, easy parking, wifi-workable

Owner lives upstairs, only 1 room seems to have a view, the rest leave a lot to be desired

Breakfast was only just passable, milk ran out

Dinner was 20EUR p.p., this seemed high for a basic dinner

Check when paying, deposit came off CC which didn't seem to reflect on final bill

Functional, somewhat over-priced, expensive dinner

Not exactly what you expect for your money. a simple room and a simple breakfast. The location isnt bad. I had nicer places for less money in la reunion. Its definitly overpriced for the quality. Not the best choice.
