Marketed as overlooking a lake it sort of does but there is a drive way and trees first and only on one side and not visible from the igloo.  The other is a hotel and road. Street lights shine into the room right at eye level when in bed. You can see completely inside from the road. Also if you do go take your own pillow. On the plus side it had its own sauna.

Don’t stay here.

My husband and I traveled to Finland from Australia for the Christmas and New Years, and as it was our first wedding anniversary, wanted to treat us for an expectedly luxurious igloo hotel.

We paid quite a bit for the night (around AU$630), and expected it to be worth it. 
The igloo itself was quite nice and had well-thought out details. Sauna and bathroom were both really nice and modern. We had a fireplace in the igloo, which we put fire in, very cosy! 

The bed was made with 3 very low quality pillows and there weren't any extra ones. As it was Sunday when we checked in, there was no staff to call in for assistance. In fact there was absolutely no one around when we arrived on Sunday afternoon just after 5pm. We were given the instructions to get inside, which worked, after being curious enough to go through some random buildings and trying different doors.

There was a note on the room's table noting that the hotel restaurant would be closed on Sunday, and the breakfast would be served in the hotel's meeting room. Our breakfast would be on Monday, so we didn't suspect this meaning that ours would be in the meeting room. We were wrong: on Monday morning the hotel receptionist informed us the breakfast would indeed, be served in the meeting room. Disappointed is the word that described the breakfast: it was DIY-type of set-up: everything was placed in a fridge (cheese, ham, tomato and cucumber slices, yogurt in a bowl, orange juice and milk), coffee machine had to be filled by us, with instructions only in Finnish, on a hand-written scribbled post-it note. For a place that is mostly booked by tourists, I find this very disturbing, as there were no signs in any foreign language, and to operate the coffee machine, you would definitely need to know the language. For $650/night price tag, I was expecting a proper breakfast, which this was not.

We noticed the igloo's glass ceiling's two windows were cracked. My husband woke me up around 4:30am for the leaking window right about above our heads. (as a side note: after browsing on Tripadvisor's review page, there had been comments about the cracked windows as far back as April 2018, and it still hadn't been fixed.)

In the igloo, there was a capsule coffee machine, and exactly two capsules for us to enjoy. Well, to our surprise, the second one was just milk (supposedly a cappuccino).

Another disappointment was the minibar fridge that didn't work even after plugging it in, and there weren't any switches to turn on. Luckily it was a cold night and snow around, so we could cool off our champagne in the snow outside.

I wrote a letter to the hotel the day after our check-out, about the issues we faced during our stay, but after a week since we checked out, we haven't heard a single word from them. Definitely not worth the hefty price tag! Do not recommend, and would not stay again.

Staying at hotel Igloo Lapland was a disappointment from the beginning to end. Igloo was not as advertised (photos highly photoshopped), it is pretty much in a car park in the back yard of a hotel ,a minute away from a supermarket and street lights. Nothing luxurious about this place as the price would suggest. Service was appalling. Run down, dated, drab. Just wish I’d read the reviews before I booked it. Very upsetting as so expensive and meant to be a real treat for my 30th birthday. Ended up spending my time there in tears as was so disappointed. If it is not too late, do not book. Agoda has to step in to try and resolve issues but hotel has not cooperated and will continue to cheat people out of their hard earned money. Serious health and safety risks attached with staying here (cracked glass above head when laying in bed/ not informed that nobody would be at reception from 5pm (meant to be 11pm) and no phone number to contact anyone. So sorry I wasted  time and money staying here 😥

Disastrous. Definitely not 5*. Avoid at all costs. 

We spent this Christmas with our two children in this island, and it seemed like a nice experience. It is a very special room, made of wood and glass. Although you can see the village lights, you have privacy because no one can see you. The best: the private sauna inside the room and the cozy fireplace. The heating is very powerful and it is very pleasant inside. It would be advisable that it be more marked, because it is inside the hotel Ilveslinna and it is not advertised. It is an hour from Rovaniemi by a road in very good condition, and very close to the zoo of Ranua, which is very advisable.

A beautiful island.

Hello everyone, I read from many announcements that I regret staying at the Lapland Igloo. I must say that first of all it is not a hotel, it is a facility near a local, perhaps the one I of the whole Ranua, where a family owner of the same local decided to make this facility near the lake of Ranua. Talking about the facility I say that the owners not only but also the staff responsible is not very organized. We did not find anyone on our arrival we had to call them and after half an hour they arrived near the police command of the place of our meeting. The facility is good but the place is much below our expectations. I was expecting a much more decentralized place that I know in the forest and with Ranua.

Christmas 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here!  Once inside the ambience was incredible and it was the perfect place to spend our honeymoon!  The view at night was spectacular and the northern lights were elegant and gorgeous and we could see them perfectly while laying in bed!  The room was cozy and the fireplace was a perfect touch!  Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was delicious.

The igloo has a bit of an odd location behind a car park but it didn’t take away from the experience inside!

Honeymoon igloo!

Staff were not helpful. We were delayed through no fault of our own (our flight from London to rovaneimi). We let the staff know in advance that we will arrive late but they still went home and didn't wait for us to arrive. When we arrived at around midnight the hotel was closed and locked we almost had to spend the night in -30 degrees in the car! As hotel staff went home leaving the key in the igloo which we couldn't find in the dark in the woods!I ended up googling other hotels in the town but there aren't any apart from a campsite which I found the number for and a nice lady from the campsite 2 miles down the road managed to help us. Very disappointing when you spend 250euros for a nights stay which we spent around 6 hours in! When I complained in the morning the staff acted as if it was my fault we were late and blamed me for not following instructions and not finding the igloo ourselves at midnight in pitch black darkeness! Awful customer service. Will not stay here again there are many more igloos to stay in around lapland and I will definitely stay somewhere else next time. :-( 

General igloo was nice although not a lot of privacy we found out when we woke up in the morning! Sauna looked nice just wish we had had the time to actually use and enjoy it. We spent a total of 7 hours in this hotel and 6 of them were spent sleeping. 

One positive thing - nice view of the stars when laying in bed. 

OK but disappointed 

The igloo is nice - though a bit tacky and run down in places. The sauna and fireplace are great, but the location is not. You can literally see the local bus station and main grocery shop from the windows (just) and privacy is a bit limited. With the price we paid for this place, I did expect a bit more. Also, please be warned that extra charge (eur 50 per night I think?) will be taken for using "extra" beds that are in the room anyhow. Quite dodgy I think. Glass igloo was something we wanted to try and it was okay for one night -- but I wont be doing it again.
